BC celebratesEnvronment Week
This week the environment is takingcentre stage as we celebrate Canadian En-vironment Week June 2 to 8, as well asClean Air Day and World Environment Daytoday, June 5.
Canadian Environment Week is an an-nual event that takes place the first weekof June and gives all Canadians an op-portunity to celebrate the progress madeon protecting the natural environmentand encouraging sustainable practicesyear-round.
Clean Air Day is a Canadian celebra-tion of environmentally friendly activi-ties that promote clean air and goodhealth across our nation.
World Environment Day, a United Na-tions initiative, is a global day of action toraise awareness of environmental issues.
Yellow Dog ProjectSome local dog owners are looking toan innovative international initiative
aimed at giving a little heads up to otherdog owners that their pooch might needsome space a yellow ribbon on a leash.
The Yellow Dog Project began in Swe-den in June 2012, and it has expanded toNorway, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Slova-kia, the Netherlands, Canada and the US.The idea is that its easy & cheap, visiblefrom a distance and works internationally.
So if you see a dog with a yellow ribbonor fabric on the leash, please do not ap-proach this dog with your dog or children.Maintain distance or give this dog and itsowner time to move out of your way. Thereare lots of reasons why some dogs needmore space: they may be ill, hurt or justold; have a new family or bad life experi-ences and need a greater distance to slowly
train to cope with their new surroundings. There could be health issues, they could bein training, being rehabilitated, scared orreactive around other dogs.

Pedallng for Papas comng to Shls!
A 12,000km international bicyclingand performance tour, Pedalling for Papuaaims to raise awareness of the 50-year oldhuman rights & environmental abuse inthe underreported region of West Papua.
As home to the bird of paradise, the sec-ond largest jungle remaining in the world, and our planets most bio-diverse marinezone, this beautiful region has been subjectto what many observers have dubbed aslow-motion genocide. As many as 500,000
Indigenous West Papuans have died as aresult of the military presence and lack ofdevelopment in their homeland.
This story needs to be told. Over 6months, campaigner Jeremy Bally willtour a multimedia performance on his bi-cycle through 7 countries. The showtakes recorded conversations with WestPapuan exiles, refugees and activists liveon stage through an original animation. This is projected beside Jeremy as he nar-rates with original spoken word poetryand ukulele based hip-hop music.

What Wold Look Sller?A salesman was trying to talk a farmer into buying a bicycle, but was meeting with considerable
sales resistance. "Shucks, I'd sooner spend my money on a cow," said the farmer. "Ah," replied
the salesman, "but think how silly you'd look riding around on a cow." "Humph!" retorted the
farmer. "Not near as silly as I'd look trying to milk a bicycle!"
Snake's New GlassesAn old snake goes to see his doctor. "Doc, I need something for my eyes. Can't see well these
days." The doc fixes him up with a pair of glasses and tells him to return in two weeks. The
snake comes back two weeks later and tells the doctor he's very depressed. Doc says,
"What's the problem -- didn't the glasses help you?" "The glasses are fine, Doc. I just discov-
ered I've been living with a water hose the past two years!"
