away quietly
under the care of the wonderful staffat Gillis House, surrounded
by familyduring her final days.
Vi was born in Oshawa Ontario onDecember 5, 1913, then moved
withher family to Hamilton Ontario, whereshe met George Cressy and
they mar-ried on August 1, 1931.
They had four children whom sheraised to be honest,
hardworking,kind, curious and joyous people:George Jr., Ron, Bill
and Lorraine.
The family moved to Merritt in 1942,it was quite a culture shock
to Vi whowas used to the comforts of a big city.But she soon fit in
and got involvedwith several organizations in Merritt.
Vi also worked alongside George inthe Imperial Oil Agency for 20
years.Then, along with their two sonsGeorge Jr. & Ron and their
spouses,started Kokanee Beach Resort. Thefamily has many fond
memories of Viand George Sr. at Kokanee, as do theguests who often
resided during thesummer, visited frequently, or madethe drive to
enjoy some of her wonder-ful culinary delights. After George
Sr.passed away in 1975, she continued towork there until she
retired.
Vi was the recipient of manyawards and certificates over the
years,such as recognizing her volunteerwork with the City of
Merritts Infor-mation Centre, receiving the Citizen of
the Year, a Legion member, a prolificknitter for the NV Hospital
Auxiliary,and a 60+ year member of the PatriciaRebekah Lodge
#33.
She lived in her home until August2012 when she moved to the
NicolaMeadows.
Vi was Grandma to ten grandchil-dren: Debbie, Shannon, Michael,
Clif-ford, Shelley, Teri, David, Susan,Lorne, and Patty.
Great-Grandma totwenty-four great grandchildren.Great-great Grandma
to five great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to thankNicola Valley Homecare, the staff
andresidents of Nicola Meadows, Dr. An-dres Smit for his care of
Vi, the staff atNicola Valley Health Centre and espe-
cially the care and kindness given toher and our family by the
wonderfulstaff at Gillis House.
