November/ December 2014
It’s a wonderful life! It’s my family’s favorite holiday movie.
It really speaks to the true meaning of the holidays and we
watch it together over and over again. It’s such a lovely time of year surrounded with friends and family. You’re probably
very busy with all the necessary preparations and I’m sure
that includes the making of a few handmade items too! We are such a talented group and the gifts we make for others
are a very cherished thing to receive. I hope that you will
have the time to make a small item for our gift exchange. You can use any fabric (from the September swap or your
stash) to make a mug rug, coaster, pot holder, pin cushion or
whatever you want to make. I can’t wait to see what you cre-ate and I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Ann Hockmeyer
Guild Holiday Party… The December 4, 2014 meeting will be our annual
Holiday Party. Bring your favorite covered dish or
dessert to share. If you would like to take part in the gift exchange bring
a wrapped notion ($10 value). We’ll also be collecting food St.Luke’s
Food Pantry. If you have any question you can contact Jane Hamel
This and That
Sunshine Lady: Mary Jo Ray If you know of someone who needs a bit of sunshine in their
life, please contact Mary Jo on her phone please!
Remember:
Doors open at 6:00 for socializing!!
I would be very appreciative if it is possible to provide information to the
Guild,
in hopes of locating an experienced Quilter willing to take on this project
While cleaning out a relative’s home, we discovered a partially made Quilt
from beautiful 1930’s fabric – there are not yet enough squares to put the
Quilt
together, but there is a bag with plenty of the old fabric
We do have 16 completed 12 inch squares; I am told the pattern is
“Dresden Plates” plus 2 larger completed pieces for Pillow covers.
Contact Ann Hockmeyer if interested.
Looking for an experienced
Quilter to finish this quilt.
The gorgeous Raffle Quilt brought in nearly $300 at “A Quilters’ Gathering” in Manchester. If you know of a craft Fair or other event that we might display this quilt, please contact Betty Hastings.
Raffle Quilt 2015-16. Please remember to finish up the MVQ fall raffle quilt blocks and bring them to the December 4th Christmas Party meeting. Please finish them up no later than
the January meeting. You will receive your $5 back when you return
them. Thank you.
Bev Valle and Lin Caiado.

Merrimack Valley Quilters General Meeting October 16, 2014 7 P.M.
http://mvquilters.wordpress.com/
63 members -- one new member, Judy Naylor -- and 6 guests were present
Ann Hockmeyer, President called the meeting to order and introduced Jill Patsfield, of Seacoast Sew-
ing and Quilting, our vendor for the evening. www.seacoastsewingandquilting.com Ann also suggest-
ed that we not limit our holiday swap gifts to mug-rugs, and instead hand-make anything with the fabric
we swapped in September.
Raffle Quilt 2015-16 Creation: Bev Valle and Lin Caiado will be making the quilt from blocks that
all of us can piece. For a $5.00 deposit members will be given fabric and directions for the blocks.
When the blocks are returned, the money will be refunded. 162 blocks are required, so they need them
all back finished or not, by the January meeting.
Raffle Quilt 2014-15 Travel: Betty Hastings reported that the quilt will be going to The Quilters
Gathering in Manchester Nov.6 – Nov. 9, 2014, where ticket salespeople are needed, especially on the
Saturday. Several of our members will have quilts hanging in this juried show. Betty also reminded us
that the Raffle Tickets in our membership packets are already paid for with our dues. We can keep
them or sell them as we wish; just return the stubs to enter.
Charity T. P. Rolls: Gail Wozniak explained how to use the rolls to hold a 4” wide strip of fabrics
(“Chinese Coin” style) for use in a charity quilt sew-in to be held sometime this winter.
Mystery Bus Trip: Gail asked for a preliminary sign-up of those interested in going on the trip in early
March 2015, at a cost of $25 per person. Interest will decide whether she’ll continue with planning the
trip.
Fall Retreat: Kathy Pearse informed those going on the retreat that they must have paid-up member-
ship dues in order to participate.
U.F.O. Auction: Carrie Zizza and Signe Kaleel are looking for donations of incomplete quilts, orphan
blocks, notions, books, yarn, machines, and gift certificates for time, services, or store credit, for the
February Auction.
Holiday Meeting: Jane Hamel informed us that the Holiday Meeting will be a pot-luck dinner, so
please bring something yummy to share! We’ll have two different gift swaps; one of handmade gifts,
and one of favorite sewing notions with a minimum value of $10.00. Jane will also be collecting for
the St. Luke’s Food Pantry, so please contribute non-perishable items for that.
Programs: Lyn Grenier informed us that the Materials Lists for most of the future Workshops will be
available on our website soon. The Workshop in January will be a table-runner, based on the Modern
Quilt Movement. A Charity Sew-in is planned for February, free to all.
Show and Tell: There were many beautiful quilts shown.
Door Prizes: Liz Swan asks that each of us donate Fat Quarters at every meeting, to be used for door
prizes. This month’s prizes were won by Carrie Zizza, Rosemary Bray, and Jane Hamel.
Monthly Raffle: A book, fabric, and binding clips were won by Beverly Knapp.
Then we all enjoyed a Mini-Workshop with numerous options: including several ways to decorate fab-
ric, and a few tips and tricks for making special quilts. Fun, informative and inspiring!
Holiday Pot Luck Meeting: Thurs. Dec. 4th, at 7 P.M., doors open at 6 P.M. for set-up and socializ-
ing.
Next Board Meeting: Wed. January 7, 2015, 7:00 PM, at the Plaistow Library
Respectfully submitted, Janice Taylor, Secretary
