Located in the Extremadura region of Spain, just north of Andalusia, the birthplace of the guitar, Mérida is home to more Roman ruins than any other city in Spain. Surrounded by this historic backdrop, inspiration for these meticulously handcrafted instruments, the Mérida extrema Acoustic and Classical Guitars, lay around every corner.

The Mérida extrema rosette was inspired by the Mérida Amphitheater and its magnificent former elliptical shape. Similarly, the Two Woodtone Bridge is reminiscent of the Acueducto de los Milagros’ nighttime silhouette, and showcases the ultimate sound connection between the strings and solid tops. And finally, Puente Romano, which served as the inspiration for the sound bracings.

These handmade, select tonewood instruments combine the Spanish heritage of old world craftsmanship with modern innovation that will delight even the most discerning aficionado. Every guitar in each of the four lines feature D’Addario® Phosphor Bronze strings, Savarez® nylon strings, GraphTech® Tusq XL nut and saddle, Fishman® Electronics, and Grover® Tuners.

We know how important it is to be able to tune your guitar. and for it to stay in tune! We’ve chosen Grover, the undisputed leader in quality tuning machines for every MÉRIDA Guitar.

These guitar machines are a triumph in engineering and styling. The housing provides a maximum bearing for worm, gear and string post. Gear ratio is 14:1. Worm and gear are precision-cut for perfect meshing. This eliminates backlash and slippage. Countersunk tension screw permits player to regulate turning tension to any degree. Gear box has a special lubricant for lifetime, trouble-free service.

We at MÉRIDA Guitars are absolutely passionate and dedicated to making the best acoustic guitars, so we use Fishman Electronics, a leader in Acoustic pickup technology. Every MÉRIDA Acoustic/Electric Guitar is fitted with Fishman Electronics. Their ongoing commitment and wide range of innovative products has helped the company grow to become the industry standard for acoustic amplification. Fishman users are passionate about their brand of choice, for one simple reason: they put the needs of the acoustic musician first!

All MÉRIDA (except our Classical and Flamenco guitars) incorporate a 2-way adjustable truss rod that allows for precise adjustment of the guitar’s setup in light of seasonal changes. Additionally, a player can increase or decrease fingerboard relief to exactly suit their personal playing style and taste

black TUSQ Xl is designed to boost guitar tone and performance. This precision engineered nut is made with a specially formulated material which couples the strings’ vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man made ivory, but is impregnated with PTFE to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

blACK TUSQ Xl will bring out hidden harmonics in your guitar. The highly resonant material couples your strings’ vibration to the neck better than anything else. You will hear more richness from every note, especially on open strings.

The use of KF ALLIANCE material first discovered and introduced by Savarez, changed the world of guitar. The strings were first made of gut then made of nylon. The trebles are now made of a high technological material, very different from nylon : different elasticity, higher density, further longevity thanks to the very specific cristallinity grade. We feel they are the perfect compliment to our classical guitars!

Mérida — aLCaZaBa (9th century)

Founded in 25 B.C., Mérida is capital to the Extramdura region in Spain and home to more Roman ruins than any other city in Spain.

CardENaS (25 BC.)

Alonso de CÁRDENAS, Grand Master of the Order of Santiago (1474 to 1493) After the unification of the crowns of Catalonia and Castile, Alonso de Cárdenas led Mérida into a period of recovery.

diaNa (1st century)

Temple of DIANA built at the end of the 1st century, the Temple of Diana is the only religious building in Mérida that remains on its original foundation. The Diana series is accented with details less subtle than those found on our other instruments, and are as sonically motivating as they are aesthetically pleasing.

MiLaGrOS (1st century)

The Acueducto de los Milagros is a spectacular Roman aqueduct over the Guandiana river and was constructed to follow the natural contours of the land.

TraJaN, ROMAN EMPEROR (98 to 117 AD.)

A dominant and successful emperor, Trajan is remembered for his extensive public building program, which reshaped the city of Rome and left multiple enduring landmarks.

NUEVa GraNada (The New World)

In Nueva Granada, the “Sister City” to Merida in the Venezuelan Andes, they have a saying, “A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” With their incredible sound projection and clarity - The same goes for our Nueva Granada classical guitars.

FLaMENCO (1850s)

Although a more recent art form, Flamenco simultaneously embodies the Spanish culture and represents the history of the Spanish people.
