PROPOSAL

Merck, Sharp & Dohme Corporation (the “Applicant”) is seeking preliminary and final site plan approval to construct a building addition, as described below, on property located on E. Scott Avenue, designated as Block 396, Lot 1 on the City of Rahway tax map (the “Property”). The Property is located in the OR Zone.

The Property, which is part of the Applicant’s overall research and office campus, includes parking spaces, and other related site improvements.

The Applicant is proposing to construct an addition along Lincoln Avenue between two existing buildings, internal to the research campus. The building includes a multi-purpose assembly room with adjacent pre-function space, a communicating stair connecting all floors of Building RY32/33, a pedestrian bridge connecting to Building RY60 at the second floor and support spaces. The 4,000 SF assembly room is a flat floor that accommodates up to 300 removable seats and a podium in an assembly arrangement, as well banquet and exhibit functions. A two-story pre-function space surrounds the assembly room on two sides and includes access to the pedestrian bridge and communicating stair. The main entry and exit to the auditorium is from the existing lobby of Building RY32/33 and a new side entry and exit vestibule is provided on the west side of the building. The total building area is 12,900 square feet. The proposed addition is intended to be used by the employees on-site and not for external events.

The addition will occupy an existing open space that includes a walkway and lawn area. A new sidewalk will be installed on Lincoln Avenue and a new landscaped plaza with seating will be constructed between the auditorium and Building RY60. Grades around the building will remain the same. The auditorium roof will include approximately 4,700 square feet of green roof.
