Introduce yourself to your mentee promptly. Assess
his or her immediate needs. Introduce him or her to other
educators on-site.
Ensure that your mentee is knowledgeable about: Gradebook,
district E-mail, My Learning Plan, PMP Data Star, PAWS, and all
instructional software available to your school.
Ensure that your mentee understands the local administrator’s
expectations regarding lesson plans (format, content, timely
submission, etc). Make sure he or she knows how/where to
access the current standards for his or her assigned courses.
Ensure that your mentee understands emergency procedures
described in the Crisis Management Flipchart and has received
a copy of the flipchart.
Ensure that your mentee knows the procedures for acquiring a
substitute and handling planned and emergency absences.
Ensure that your mentee knows the procedures for collecting and
handling money from students, teachers, parents, or sponsors.
Help your mentee understand what is expected regarding
knowledge, documentation, accommodations, modifications, conferences, etc. for special education
students and ESOL students. Review a PMP together.
Check to be sure that your mentee understands the procedures
for the administration of any high-stakes exams and the
consequences of not following testing procedures.
Offer assistance to your mentee in developing an Individualized
Professional Development Plan (IPDP) and/or an SLO prior to
October 31. Help to define a worthwhile and measurable goal, relevant professional development activities, and a reasonable
timeline for accomplishing the activities.
Mentoring Expectations

Objective: To assist newly hired teachers in acclimating to the school and district’s
culture and expectations with the goal of increased student learning and personal
job satisfaction.

using the template provided.
Complete Cycle 2 of the Formative Process Model with your
mentee and maintain a journal of your interactions using the
template provided.
Complete Cycle 3 of the Formative Process Model with your
mentee and maintain a journal of your interaction using the
template provided.
Continue using the process as desired and/or necessary using your own
collection tool.

Verify each of the following are completed and then
submit the Mentoring Journal to Karen Peek, Program Director of Professional Services, Bay Area Office, by May 1.

Peer Mentor Agreement
I acknowledge that I have attended a Peer Mentor/Mentee Training session, and I have received the Expectations for Peer Mentors. I agree
to complete the responsibilities defined by these documents in a timely manner in accordance with the Guiding Principles and Tips for Peer Mentors.
In return for my services, I will earn a stipend. Full payment will be
based on the review and approval of all components of the Okaloosa County Schools Mentorship Journal by Professional Services. Partial payment or no payment will be at the determination of the program
director for Professional Services based on completion of the journal.
In the event that I am unable to serve as mentor and perform the duties as required, I agree to notify Professional Services promptly so that a suitable replacement can be assigned.
