MENTOR Instructional Design Abilities
One basic reason behind our great confidence in our team ability to deliver a top quality product to the client organization is simply because developing training material from scratch is something we do every time we train. Mentor doesn’t use “over the shelf” training material or readymade training package in its training programs. With every project Mentor handles, our team redesign the material that fits the client’s needs, as the below process:
We have drafted, edited, and developed more than 40 different course modules in French, English and Arabic languages. The language we use is very simple and straight forward, so it can cater for people who speak English as a second language, who form more than 80% of our trainees. Clients have used Mentor service to prepare Training Workbooks Induction Booklets, Instruction Manuals, and Illustrated Presentations. Mentor use a simple and easy to read format, with brief ideas presented to help the reader grasp the concept and then place an activity that will help to understand how the concept is applied in workplace.

After the presentation of each concept, a learning activity will follow. The learning activities are the most vital part of the training workbook, as it will make it interactive and make the learning goes from KNOWING to APPLYING. Developing learning activities will require the most expertise in adult education and professional training. These activities should be suitable to the concept; build the related skills; easy to perform and linked to workplace practice
Each concept / skills will require a different type of activity to be linked to it. The workbook will try to follow each particular management concept with the right activity that will go best with it. Samples of different activities:

Pre-Training Work & Pre-training follow up
In 2004, Dr. Bret Peterson from Columbia University, USA did a research work based on
a survey about the different factors Contribution to Learning Effectiveness; the results
were amazing as the research showed that the learning event only contribute 24% of the
whole learning effectiveness. Following up the learners after the training together with
the pre-work will contribute to the rest.
Training Assessment & Learning Outcome Evaluation
Measuring the ROE (Return on Expectations) and ROI (Return on Investments) of
training and learning events is always the big question that keep popping up every time a
department head wants to train his/her people or when the Head of learning want to
discuss their budget with the finance people. This often drive managers who see the value
of people development in organization to seek ways to focus training and reinforcement
efforts on the agreed bottom line expectations of business partners, with the goal of
delivering the key outcomes and results they expect. Borrowing the Kirkpatrick 4 levels,
will give us a better insight to evaluate how the investment in learning can be assessed:

Team building is pursued via a variety of practices, and can range from simple bonding exercises to complex simulations and multi-day team building retreats designed to develop a team (including group assessment and group-dynamic games), usually falling somewhere in between. BUILDING KEY ATTRIBUTES Human beings have many talents that can be turned into engines of success. Yet the best performance requires mare than mere talent: it involves developing a number of important personal strengths, including determination, vision and confidence.
ASSESSING YOURSELF
You know what comes easily to you, and these strengths can be developed fairly rapidly. Yet your natural powers may not be enough. To reach your full potential, you need to develop all the key attributes. For example, a lack of confidence is a general barrier to advancing in business management. If you are someone who is feeling of low self-esteem, or you lack the courage of your convictions, you will have to work hard to maximize your self-confidence. Begin yourself development by looking objectively at your abilities and where they most need to be improved.
EVALUATING YOUR KEY ATTRIBUTES ATTRIBUTE HOW TO ASSESS YOURSELF
AMBITION Have you written down high and stretching targets and planned how you are going to achieve them?
VISION Have you formed a clear idea of where you want to be and what you want to be doing in five years’ time?
CONFIDENCE Do you feel able to do anything that is needed now, do it well, and master new abilities and tasks as required?
ABILITY TO
TAKE RISKS Do you believe in your own ability to judge a risk as worth taking and to take our chances effectively?
DRIVE AND
ENERGY Can you bring full mental powers to bear on an issue, to decide on the right action, and see it through?
COMPETITIVE
SPIRIT Are you never satisfied until you have clearly won all the prizes against the best competition around!
SELF-CRITICISM Are you a restless perfectionist who constantly seeks to improve and to get others to do the same?
LEADERSHIP Can you mobilize others to achieve group ambitions, as well as develop other leaders and bring them forward?

Sample Exercises: from the Personal Objective Setting and Performance Tools module
Multiple Choice Questions (Setting Goals) Question 1: In terms of importance, goals generally fall into one of three categories: critical, solutions-oriented, or nice to have. What is a key difference between a critical goal and a solutions-oriented goal?
A critical goal must be accomplished in order for your unit to continue to run successfully. A
solutions-oriented goal may not be essential but it creates a more desirable long-term business situation.
A critical goal is a short-term goal that has emerged unexpectedly and overrides other
activities; a solutions-oriented goal is the goal created to resolve the issues raised by the critical goal.
A critical goal is a short-term goal that reflects the organization’s mission and strategy; a
solutions-oriented goal is a long-term goal originating from and designed to improve your business unit.

Sample text for the Communication Skills Module
COMMUNICATING CLEARLY
INTRODUCTION
The art of getting your message across effectively is a vital part of being a successful manager.
Whether you want to make presentations with confidence or to negotiate with ease, this section of
the book will help you to improve your communication skills. From understanding body language
to writing reports and proposals-all the key aspects of business communication are clearly
explained. Also included is practical advice on using public relations, advertising, information
technology and media techniques, while 101concice tips scattered throughout give you further
vital information. Finally, a self-assessment exercise allows you to evaluate how good you are at
communicating. As you begin to communicate more effectively, this section will help you to
consolidate and build on your new skills.
LEARNING THE BASICS
Everybody communicates in one way or another, but few managers deliver their messages as well
as they can. Learn some basic rules to help you get your message across clearly.
WORKING TOWARDS BETTER COMMUNICATION
Good communication is the lifeblood of organizations. It takes many forms, such as speaking,
writing, and listening, though its purpose is always to convey a message to recipients. Use it to
handle information and improve relationships.
1. Encourage your company to improve all type of communications. 2. Note that good communicators make much better managers.
Being effective
Effective communication (and therefore effective business) hinges on people understanding your
meaning, and replying in terms that move the exchange forward-preferable in the direction you
would like it to go. Communicating is always a two-way process. In management, you
communicate to get things done, pass on and obtain information, reach decisions, achieve joint
understanding, and develop relationships.
Recognizing Barriers
There are always at least two parties involved in any communication, each of whom may have
different wants, needs, and attitudes. These wants and needs can present barriers if they conflict
with those of the other party, and such barriers may stop you conveying and receiving the right
message. Any communication must overcome such barriers if it is to be successful, and the first
step is to recognize that they exist.
Communicating positively:
Breaking down barriers is one of the first steps towards good communication. Maintaining eye
contact, listening to what the other person is saying, and mirroring body language all help you to
communicate successfully.
