Community Notice Board;
Shire News;
This week students are starting
their Naplan tests. These are carried
out across Australia and results are
generally returned to the school in
about September. I wish all our stu-
dents well.
Mother’s Day was celebrated with
gift purchases by the children on
Friday. It was another success for
our P&C who really work hard. A
modest profit was made.
Our Mother’s Day special at the
train was an outstanding success.
This event each Friday is becoming
well attended and giving our stu-
dents really good skills. A record
take was made and we thank all par-
ents and community for their con-
tinued and growing support. This
afternoon has some astonishing
guest appearances with Tina Turner
and Shirley Bassey really putting on
vintage performances. This event
will soon showcase our school stu-
dents performing and the commu-
nity choir.
Principal’s Column
Our farm goes from strength to
strength and it was with great ex-
citement that our school received
a brand new tractor. Money to pay
for it will come from the money
we received from the Schools
First program. Again we thank the
NAB bank for their generous sup-
port. This tractor will be used for
a number of purposes including
slashing the grass thus saving our
ride on mower and doing the job
so much quicker.
Next week will be a busy week
with Wakkakiri which will culmi-
nate with 40/50 students travel-
ling to Broken Hill for the festival
with other schools. Early in the
week two days will be spent with
an ABC expert working students
to develop a visual presentation

Wakakirri Outback Festival - Performing and Visual Arts
On Friday 20th May Menindee Central School students in years 5-10 will be travel-
ling by coach to the Wakakirri Outback Festival – Performing and Visual Arts in
Broken Hill. This looks to be a fabulous day with plenty of fun to be had by all.
The day will include;
Dance Workshops
Art Workshops
Film Screening
Culture Workshops
Sports Games
Career Expo
Music Workshops
Health Workshops
Arts Stalls
We are also extending an invitation to community members who may like to come
in to the festival on the coach. Seats are very limited so you will need to get in
early. Any interested community members will need to collect and complete a
Working with Children Declaration, which we will have available at the front office.
Once this is handed in your name will be added to the list.
Students will be receiving their permission notes in their roll calls this week. Once
again, it will be the case of first in best dressed, so students will need to return
these to the front office as soon as possible!
Please contact Danielle Fellows at the school if you have any further questions.
Dear Parents & Care Givers,
Things are really hotting up for our Vibe Alive participants, and they are working
hard to polish their performance, keep up the effort!

Stewart House, the department's charity of choice, needs a helping hand.
How Stewart House helps
For 80 years Stewart House has provided refuge for disadvantaged and marginalised children who need a break from their circumstances.
Each year Stewart House looks after 1,800 children from across NSW and the ACT, who take part in a 12-day residential program at the organisation's headquarters on Sydney's northern beaches.
During their stay, children are provided with eye, dental and general medical checks, in addition to emotional support.
To continue to provide the current levels of service, Stewart House needs to raise more than $2.5 million every year. It finished 2010 with a shortfall of $200,000.
How you can help
We ask all offices, schools and their communities to organise special fundraising activities for Stewart House on or around Friday 13 May.
A small contribution will make the difference between operating at capacity and turning away the neediest of children.
For as little as four dollars per pay you could cover all the costs associated with one day of a child's stay at Stewart House. See the front office for donation envelopes.

In the Foyer at the recent NCDW Forum we conducted a “Have your Say” activity. The findings were in-teresting - responses recorded to the question - What do you consider is the greatest challenge in your com-munity to - get the life you love?
• 55% indicated Motivation;
• 16% indicated Opportunities;
• 12% indicated Access to Education and Training;
• 11% indicated Information about career development; and
6% indicated Support Services.
These results mirror the results from the same NCDW activity - Campaign Launch and Community Forum - held in the Campbelltown Local Government Area in 2010.
Next week is National Career Development Week – 16 to 22 May! The NCDW campaign is a unique initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA), which motivates and supports many hundreds of thou-sands of Australians each year to get the life they love! Research shows that parents and carers probably have the greatest influence on their children’s career decisions. We encourage you to check out the NCDW website at www.ncdw.com.au or www.aussiecareerweek.com, which along with the largest careers event database in Aus-tralia, contains career factsheets, exciting educational videos, celebrity interviews, links to career resources and services, and a range of other helpful and inspiring career development content. Getting the life you love takes more than just luck – it means actively managing your life, always learning, and being ready for change.”

The Special Guests who entertained
Mothers Day visitors to
‘Beyond Cafe’ on Sunday .........
Tina Turner & Shirley Bassey
Well, well, well last Saturday we made our first instalment on the ORL 2011 Premiership. Well done boys.
It was the first time in a long time that we heard the Yabbies song being belted out.
Our first game for the season and all looks good – we had a stirling performance from the boys who toppled one of the
ORL’s toughest teams. After trailing 18/10 at half time the Yabbies showed their heart and courage and went on to win
32/30. Each and every player had a good game. The defence was the best seen by the Yabbies in the last couple of years.
Colin Clark played his first senior game and was in the thick of things. He played hooker, he had some good runs and is gen-
erally a tough player. Also Big Mac, Benny and Peter had their first game of rugby league – who would have known, they
played like seasoned players. Peter showed real class and had some great runs. Unfortunately Big Mac buckled at the knees,
but showed that he’s got what it takes and came back on after his injury. Benny’s strength in carrying three of the Bungers
at a time as he ran down field was a highlight of the game. It was also good to welcome back Rob Pagano, Shane Hind-
marsh, Jake Watson and BJ, who all showed the yabby in them with good solid performances. Rob scored a try and of
course Hindmarsh had to score a try – how does he do it? We must mention that Shane and BJ are old, old Yabbies, two of
our players from when we were the Group 12 comp. Old silvertail Darryl had an outstanding game and showed his experi-
ence, and Ricky – he’s a no brainer who topped the tackle count and seems to run at anything. Johnno showed his true
form and had the most hit-ups. Clint demonstrated real speed and determination when he wheeled down Toofy Spencer
who was not happy. Another new recruit Fijian also ran all over the Bungers and showed his defensive style as he palmed
the opposition off. A special mention to the troopers Ike, Mal, Cody and Ernie Boy who have been with the Yabbies (since
ORL competition) through thick and thin. Their passion and commitment is commendable. Ernie Boy had a great game
and had a good go at organising players, Mal scored a try kicked four goals and had a hand in everything else going on.
Cody played on the wing and showed good footwork and solid defence and needs to get his ankle strapped and get in the
thick of it where he shines. Ike scored a try, and had some good bursts to get the Yabbies in a good position, he showed his
speed and determination.
The areas that we need to concentrate are ball skills.
We’ve got a good balanced team who have shown us that they have what it takes. It was a great win with every player play-
ing their part. Congratulations to Coach Blister who remained with the club after a dismal 2010 season where we barely had
enough players to field a team.
A big thankyou to our vocal and entertaining supporters.
Try scorers: Ike, Mal, Shane, Johnno, Benny and Rob. Goals: Mal (4) Man of the match: Ricky (3); Darryl (2); Johhno (1)
Other ORL game-Boomerangs defeated Saints 34/10. Next Saturday we play the Saints t Broken Hill and the Juniors will have a game as well. The following week we have Boo-merangs at home. Any girls aged between 16 & 25 please contact Jan on 04 2977 3229 by Thursday . There are 2 Broken Hill teams. Wil-cannia will not be fielding a girls team.
Tonight (Wednesday) all senior players need to attend the Tackling Violence session at the school library at 6 pm
