WHAT THE SKYHAWKS DID A YEAR AGO • UT Martin posted a 4-27 overall record and a

0-16 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) mark in 2011-12.

• The Skyhawks fi nished in 11th place in the OVC regular-season standings.

SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS • UT Martin brings a

2-4 overall record into Thursday’s match-up.

• The Skyhawks are 2-2 in their last four out-ings with wins over Fontbonne and Lyon College and setbacks to Arkansas State and Bradley. The loss to Arkansas State came in triple overtime.

• Sophomore forward Myles Taylor leads fi ve Skyhawks averaging double-fi gure in scoring at 16.2 ppg. UT Martin’s other four double-fi gure scorers are Mike Liabo (12.8 ppg), Justin Childs (11.2 ppg), Bobby Jones (10.0 ppg) and Jeremy Washington (10.0 ppg). Washington has missed the last two games due to a knee injury.

• Taylor leads the Skyhawks on the glass with a 7.5 rebounding average, and Childs is the squad’s top playmaker with a 3.8 assists average (23 total assists).

• Jones (41.4 percent) and Liabo (35.1 percent) are UT Martin’s top three-point shooters.

• The Shyhawks are shooting 39.3 percent from the fi eld, 32.8 percent from the arc and 78.2 per-cent from the free throw line.

• UT Martin is out-rebounding its opponents by a narrow average margin of +0.4 (40.7-40.3).

• The Skyhawks defense is forcing their foes into nearly 18 turnovers per game (17.7).

A PRESIDENT DIVIDED? • While any person’s feelings run deep for his/

her alma mater, Tiger Nation can rest assured that University of Memphis president Shirley Raines will be dressed out in Blue and Gray for Thursday’s contest versus UT Martin.

• Raines is a UT Martin graduate and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from that institution in 1967.

MEMPHIS VS. THE OHIO VALLEY • Memphis has an all-time 106-65 record (.620

winning percentage) against current Ohio Val-ley Conference (OVC) members.

• The Tigers have played Austin Peay (17-4), Bel-mont (2-0), Eastern Kentucky (3-0), Jackson-ville State (1-1), Morehead State (0-2), Murray State (34-27), Southeast Missouri (2-2), Ten-nessee Martin (13-5), Tennessee State (8-0) and Tennessee Tech (27-24). The Tigers have never played Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville.

• The last time Memphis played an OVC foe was last season when the Tigers hosted two OVC opponents at FedExForum. Memphis split those two OVC encounters, posting a 91-60 win over Austin Peay and dropping a 76-72 decision to Murray State.

MEMPHIS REPRESENTIN’ • The city of Memphis will be well represented in

Thursday’s contest between the Tigers and Sky-hawks.

• The squads combine to have 10 players from Memphis area on the two rosters.

• UT Martin has three players — Bobby Jones (Trezevant High School), Corderio Maclin (Ridgeway High School) and DeMarc Richard-son (Briarcrest Christian School) — that call the Memphis area home. Jones and Maclin are from Memphis, while Richardson calls Eads, a Mem-phis suburb, home.

• On the Tigers’ side, seven players hail from the Memphis area. Tarik Black, Chris Crawford, Trey Draper, Ferrakohn Hall, Joe Jackson and Adonis Thomas all are from the Bluff City. Freshman Anthony Cole is from Arlington, a suburb of Memphis.

FRIENDS NOW FOES ON THURSDAY • Thursday’s game has former high school team-

mates that now will be foes at the college level. • Tigers junior Tarik Black and Skyhawks senior

Corderio Maclin were teammates at Ridgeway High School in 2008-09. That season, Black and Maclin helped lead the Roadrunners to a 34-3 overall record and the state championship.

• Memphis freshman Anthony Cole and UT Martin freshman DeMarc Richardson were teammates at Briarcrest Christian School for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. Cole and Rich-ardson helped lead the Saints to two sub-state titles and back-to-back state tournament appear-ances.

TIGERS LOVE THOSE LONG HOMESTANDS • The Tigers open a seven-game homestand

Thursday when they host UT Martin at FedEx-Forum. In the seven-game home stretch, Mem-phis also hosts Ohio Dec. 5, Austin Peay Dec. 8, No. 5/6 Louisville Dec. 15, Lipscomb Dec. 20, Oral Roberts Dec. 28 and Loyola, Md., Dec. 30.

• This seven-game homestand is the longest since 2008-09 when the Tigers also played seven-straight home games in December and early January. Memphis posted a 6-1 record in that homestand, with the lone loss coming to No. 11 Syracuse.

A MEMPHIS STARTING FIVE • For the fi rst time in over 20 years, the Tigers put

a starting fi ve on the fl oor all from the city of Memphis in their Nov. 12 season opener.

• The starting fi ve from the Bluff City were Tarik Black, Chris Crawford, Ferrakohn Hall, Joe Jackson and Adonis Thomas in Memphis’ Nov. 12 game versus North Florida. The same all-Memphis lineup started the Nov. 17 Sam-ford and Nov. 22 VCU games.

• Prior to this year’s season opener, the last time the Tigers placed an all-Memphis starting fi ve on the fl oor in a season opener was 1987-88. In that year’s season opener versus Jackson State, the all-Memphis starting fi ve were Rodney Douglas, Sylvester Gray, Marvin Alexander, Dwight Boyd and Elliot Perry.

• In overall games, the last time an all-Memphis starting fi ve played for the Tigers was on “Se-nior Day” in 1994-95 season. That game’s (ver-sus Dayton) starting fi ve were Justin Wimmer, Marcus Nolan, Lorenzen Wright, Leon Mitchell and Jason Fox.

• The Tigers’ all-time record in which an all-Memphis lineup started is 134-42 (.761 winning percentage; includes 2012-13).

• The most-successful, all-Memphis starting lineup was the one consisting of Baskerville Holmes-Keith Lee-William Bedford-Vincent Askew-Andre Turner. That all-Memphis start-ing fi ve went 28-3 in the 1984-85 season.

an NCAA-imposed, three-game suspension to start the 2012-13 campaign. Johnson was held out of the Nov. 12 North Florida, Nov. 17 Sam-ford and Nov. 22 VCU contests.

• In his two games of action, Johnson averaged 3.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in 19.5 minutes.

• The 6-foot-3 guard came up big late in the Northern Iowa win. With the Tigers clinging to a 45-41 lead, Johnson’s steal led to a Joe Jack-son three-point play to push the advantage to 48-41 with only :35 on the clock.
