It’s always meaningful to see the value of Chamber membership come to life–especially with new businesses to our region. Case in point–Work Health, an occupational health service affiliated with Northern Light Health, new to Waterville. (FYI-Besides being a Chamber board member, I work for Northern Light Inland Hospital, so I’m connected to Work Heath).
As Work Health looked to introduce itself to this community, the Chamber was the first to offer assistance. The new business attended a monthly Business After Hours (BAH) event in March and met tons of friendly business people and made some valuable connections. At the event, they had the chance to tell the large crowd about their business. All members have this opportunity at every BAH–a great way to put a face to your business and let others hear your passion for your work and company.
In March, Work Health took advantage of having a booth at the Chamber’s Business to Business Showcase at Colby’s Field House (along with 140 other chamber members)–connecting to 2000+ people who attended the Showcase.
In April, it held a Chamber ribbon cutting at 10 Washington Street location and photos of that event got liked and shared on the Chamber’s website and social media platforms, as well
as other sites. Next, they plan to attend the Chamber Breakfast Series to meet more business leaders and explore sponsorship opportunities at a wide array of Chamber events. Whew! The benefits of Chamber membership are almost endless!
But it’s not just NEW businesses that the Chamber nurtures and assists–it’s all members–even long-standing members like Day’s Jewelers (20 years!) Waterville Store Manager, Ken Whiting raved about their recent participation as on “Chamber Chatter,” the popular Facebook Live business talk show. The episode featured Ken sharing beautiful baubles for people to wear to the upcoming Chamber Awards Event on April 25. With more than 900 views, it’s clear people are watching and engaging!
So, if you’ve been thinking about reinvigorating your marketing plan this spring, think about including all the ways your Chamber can help! There’s a way to connect with consumers and our business community for everyone out there–you just need to decide which one works best for you–or engage in them all and watch your business grow!

Business After Hours April 10 at Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers! A packed house!
April 11 BBS Breakfast–working on an activity from our speaker Megan Hart on Failure Demand 201.
In 1989, Dave and Donna Neddeau of Winslow invested their family savings in a van, one raft, a house trailer for an office and two cabins. That summer they carried 38 rafting guests on the Kennebec River.
Much has changed. Magic Falls now has over 40 rafts, 25 inflatable kayaks, two dozen float tubes, volleyball, horseshoes, ½ court basketball court. A recreation pavilion, base lodge for check-ins and merchandise sales, campground with tent sites and cabin tents, a lodge with king, queen and bunk rooms and a restored farmhouse that sleeps up to 16 rafters & showers are all available for its guests. Last year Magic Falls hosted over 5,000 rafters. In 2010, Dave formed a new company, Magic Rivers, to offer high-adventure double run trips on the Upper Kennebec Gorge.
One thing has not changed—providing a fun, safety conscious, value-priced trip. Many rafting guests come back year after year and have
become personal friends. After thirty years, sons and daughters, and even grandchildren of original guests carry on the whitewater tradition rafting with Magic Falls.
Magic Falls offers daily trips on the Kennebec from early May to Columbus Day and on high release dates in the spring and fall on the Dead River. It prides itself on providing trips for students from middle school through college at affordable prices. Maine residents receive a 10% discount on all trips. During July and August, youths, 10-16 rafts half price with an adult paying that day’s full rate.
On Saturday, July 6, Magic Falls will host a special Mid-Maine Chamber Day on the Kennebec River. All chamber members and their families (age 10 and over) and their employees are welcome to raft for the price of $59, regularly $119. The state of Maine access fee of $5 will be waived. The raft trip includes a hearty barbecue with choice of steak, chicken,
fish or veggie burger, vegetable rice, coleslaw, rolls, homemade dessert and lemonade. Space is limited as the Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has capped the number of rafters on the Kennebec River to protect the environmental quality of the wilderness. To make a reservation, please call Donna at 800-207-7238, refer to your business as a member of the Mid-Maine Chamber.
Yee hah, see you on the river!

Festival Sponsorship Opportunities
During the most exciting 10 days of the year in Waterville, MIFF showcases the best of American independent and international cinema, encompassing world premieres, classic revivals and inspiring performances, exhibitions, and community workshops. Our audiences have the unique opportunity to meet directors, producers, writers, actors, and musicians, who travel to Maine from across the globe. These artists engage with the community through film panels and discussions, parties and receptions, and educational programming.
MIFF is the only film festival of its size in northern New England. Each year the festival receives recognition in media such as The Boston Globe and The New York Times, and has been covered in DownEast, Yankee, MovieMaker, Art New
England, and AAA’s Northern New England
Journey magazines. Sponsorship of MIFF provides your company with the opportunity to promote itself in a highly visible way to a sophisticated and discerning audience, which generates $750,000 in economic activity during MIFF each year.
