Club Characteristics

Action steps:• Use Organizing New Clubs (808) to learn about the

process of starting a new club.• Consider sponsoring a new club in an underserved

geographic location in your community.• Start new clubs that focus on a particular demographic

group that may not be served with a community’s current club. Perform the Membership Diversity Assessment in Club Assessment Tools to see if any demographic groups are underrepresented in your club, and determine if a new club could respond to those needs.

• Consider starting a Rotary e-club. Recent Council legislation approved the establishment of up to two Rotary e-clubs per district. E-clubs may be a viable option in your area for members who find it difficult to attend in person meetings. Review What You Need to Know about Rotary E-Clubs.

Number of ClubsOver the past five years, the region of Australia/ New Zealand/Pacific Islands has lost 37 clubs, whichrepresents a 2.5% loss. This compares to a 4% growth inthe number of Rotary clubs worldwide over the sametime period.

New clubs are a crucial part of overall membershipgrowth in a region. Establishing new clubs can be aneffective way of responding to the changing needs of acommunity - whether demographic, geographic, oreven economic.

Perform the Membership Satisfaction Survey in ClubAssessment Tools to gauge members’ happiness withthe time your club meets, and consider sponsoring anew club that meets at a time more convenient for asignificant percentage of your club members and mayalso appeal to potential new members.

It’s your Rotary Club !

• Discuss and decide what you want your Club to be, and to do?

• If you want it to be different then you have to do something different. Remember that saying:

“Just doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome – is a sign of stupidity!”

• If you want change you need to decide what changes and then plan how to get there.

Recruiting new members

• Phone , visit acquaintances• Talk to tradespeople, suppliers, professionals.• Be well prepared when you talk to others about

Rotary.• Follow up, it will take much more than one call • Talk to other organisations• Invite people to quality nights and functions• Keep a data base of prospective members,

alumni etc.

Recruiting New Members

• 95% of what Rotarians do about membership is Discuss, Analyse, Seek Advise and Plan and while that’s important.

• Nothing will change unless you actually do something!

• And everyone can do something... But will you?

Thank you !Any questions ?
