Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken. (Oscar Wilde) This should be the mantra for the Newcomers' Club. Being just who you are is always conducive to making new friends… the ultimate and happy goal of our membership. This is my last message as President of the Club for my term in office. We will be installing your new officers at Luncheon on Tuesday, May 13th. During this past year, we launched our new Web site, had a St. Patrick's Day dinner dance, and once again played host to our renowned fashion show sponsored by Chico's, plus many, many more wonderful events and activities. All of this was brought to you by the General Board, the Executive Committee and a throng of volunteers…. You know, those people willing to give of their time freely for the good of the Club. Anyway, I want to thank each and every one for making this year such a memorable one for me! The month of May always seems like such a happy month to me. On May 1st we celebrate the arrival of spring with music and a dance around the Maypole. On May 5th, we celebrate Cinco de Mayo. At my house, this includes the consumption of copious amounts of Margaritas, chips and salsa. We also celebrate our mothers in May… how nice to have a special day just for MOM! The first Saturday in May marks the run of the annual Kentucky Derby, the most famous horse race in America. There is only a short time left to put your bets down for this year’s winner! I am putting my money on Hoppertunity, ranked 4th in the field. I found it interesting that in any given year, no month ever begins or ends on the same day of the week as May does.
Last, but definitely not least, we have Memori-al Day. Memorial Day is a day of remember-ing the men and women who died while serv-ing in the United States Armed Forces. For-merly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the Civil War to commemorate the Un-ion and Confederate soldiers who died on the battle field. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans
who have died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.
Spring is God’s way of saying, ‘One more time!’ (Robert Orben)

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY UPDATES
Dear RMSG Members,
Thank you for all those beautiful cards with such beautiful verses and the personal notes.
I have read them several times. They make me feel the hugs that go with our Utah family. Also thanks for the many
phone calls. It was so nice to hear your voices.
[A note from Betty MacGregor whose husband Jim passed away recently]
Betty Vaughn had surgery on two broken vertebrae last Sunday (she fell the previous Friday) and after a short stay in
the hospital, she is now home .
Sam will be having lung surgery a week from this Friday, on April the 4th. He will be at the Huntsman's Cancer Cen-
ter. Sam has lung cancer. He has the best Dr. possible for this surgery. He is the Division Head for Huntsman's, Uni-
versity Hospital and the Veterans Hospital.
I have decided to get this information out there so that Sam can receive all the positive energy possible from all his
friends and family.
Please keep him in your prayers.

Do you have jewelry that you do not wear anymore?
You can donate it to The Children’s Center of Salt Lake City.
Your jewelry would become part of an annual event conducted by the Children’s Center and would be sold or auc-
tioned. The money raised at this event is used to finance comprehensive mental health services for the emotional well-
being of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their families.
You can donate either costume jewelry or fine jewelry. The only stipulation is that it must be in good condition. If
you donate fine jewelry please provide an estimate of appraised value.
Your donation supports a worthy cause. And remember it could be deductible at tax time!
For more information about how to donate your jewelry, call Jeanie Petersen at 801-944-1204
