RESIGNATION OF SPEAKER
The Hon B. F. Kilgariff, Member for Alice Springs, resigned as Speaker of the House on 16
July 1975. Mr J. L. S. McFarlane, Member for Elsey, was elected to the position of Speaker
on 17 July 1975.
BY-ELECTION
Following the resignation of Mr B. F. Kilgariff, Member for Alice Springs on 12 November
1975, a by-election was held on 7 February 1976, resulting in Mr G. E Manuell being elected
for the Country Liberal Party.

RESIGNATION OF SPEAKER
On 17 June 1986, the Legislative Assembly received a letter from His Hon. the Administrator,
dated 16 June 1986, advising Members of the resignation of Mr R. M. Steele (Member for
Ludmilla) as Speaker of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly. Mr R. W. S. Vale
(Member for Braitling) was elected as Speaker of the House in his place.
NEW CHIEF MINISTER
Following the resignation of the Chief Minister the Hon. P. A. E. Everingham on 16 October
1984, the Hon. I. L. Tuxworth was appointed as Chief Minister on 17 October 1984.
NEW CHIEF MINISTER
On 15 May 1986 the Hon. S. P. Hatton was appointed as Chief Minister replacing Hon. I. L.
Tuxworth.
NEW LEADER OF OPPOSITION
On 18 August 1986, Mr Robert (Bob) Linsday Collins resigned as Leader of the Opposition
and Mr Terry Smith as Leader of the Opposition on the 19 August 1986.
BY-ELECTION
Following the resignation of the Hon. P. A. E. Everingham (Member for Jingili) on 22 October

On 9 April 1996, Mr B. R. Ede resigned as the Leader of the Opposition. Ms M. A. Hickey was
elected as Leader of the Opposition on the 16 April 1995.
BY-ELECTION
Due to the resignation on 29 May 1995 of the Member for Fannie Bay, Mr M. B. Perron, a by-
election was held on 17 June 1995. As a result Ms C. M. Martin was elected as the Member
