On 21st November our outing was to Ashfield. A report on this will be in the January Newsletter This was the last outing for this year and outings will resume on 20 March 2019 when we are going to Wahroonga. Other outings for next year are currently being planned and include Marulan and Newcastle to ride on the new light rail.Broken Hill Tour. The big tour next year though is to Broken Hill. 15 July next year marks the centenary of the Menindee to Broken

Hill railway, including the original Broken Hill station building, and plans are in hand for a tour to Broken Hill by the Luncheon Club to celebrate this event. On our three day tour of Broken Hill we will be looking at various railway sites in the region, including Silverton, Menindee and hopefully the remains of the Tarrawingee Tramway. Travel to and from Broken Hill to be by regular train services (Trainlink service on Friday 12 July 2019 to Dubbo and connecting coach to Broken Hill returning home on Tuesday 16 July 2019 on the Trainlink Xplorer service) or by your means such as car or air. The cost of the period in Broken Hill from the Friday night until the Tuesday morning including coach hire, 4 nights motel accommodation and all meals except Friday night dinner, is $875 per person double/ twin share with a single supplement of $220. The travel to and from Broken Hill will be your own responsibility and is not included in this tour cost. Bookings are now being taken for this tour and the Booking Form is in this Newsletter and also available from the ARHSnsw and on the website.A recent view of Broken Hill’s first NSW station. 100 years old next July. Resource Centre UpdateAs part of preparations for a move to new premises, we’ve done a stocktake of the various items in the RRC

collection. Across the two sites, Redfern and Alexandria, we have a total of approximately 1.2km of shelf space of which about 1km is used. This is split evenly between books, documents, material requiring secure storage (such as photos and slides, plus rare items) and journals, most of which are bound. With this information, we can plan for sufficient space in the new building. On top of this, we have over 30,000 engineering drawings. These are in the process of being scanned. Much of the material has been scanned over many years which puts us in an excellent position for our project to

improve cataloguing and enable access to the collection online. In the past month we have also been identifying and cataloguing all the small items of hardware (such as signal

arms, wagon builders plates, RRR crockery etc) so that we have a record of the collection and can place some of it on display in the new facility. The RRC is very fortunate to have a committed group of volunteers to help scan, sort and catalogue material, but if

you are able to give some time and would like to be more involved please contact me at the RRC.
