Melton South Primary School Mission:

Together we create motivated, respectful learners who achieve excellence.
STAFF, STUDENTS, PARENTS AND CARERS ALL HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AT MELTON SOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOL.
EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE SAFE
EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE RESPECTED
EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO LEARN
NEW PLAYGROUND AND SANDPIT: Our new playground, sandpit and shade sails are now completed and are ready for use. Grades will be allocated certain days for use.
WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an
annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of
randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of
school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform
and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the
survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 22rd July to Sunday
11th August.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any
convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online
survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin,
Chin (hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.
The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September. The survey results will be
communicated to parents through the newsletter. Last year we used the survey results to plan for further
improvement.
If your family was selected as part of the random sample the details for completing the survey was sent by mail on Wednesday 25th of July.
CURRICULUM DAY: All teaching staff and educational support staff worked with external consultant Di Siemen on Numeracy.
PRINCIPAL’S AWARDS: The part of my job I really enjoy is celebrating students achievements. This week I have given out 3 Principal’s awards to students achieving a standard of work they were not capable of producing before. As part of the award they receive a lunch order.
PYJAMA DAY: It was great to see so many staff and children dressed in pyjamas and dressing gowns last Friday. We raised just under $900 for students in Foster Care. The contractors completing the playground construction were quite surprised to be at a meeting with the Principal and Assistant Principals in their pyjamas.
SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS: This Friday our SWPB team will attend our third training for the year with other schools in the region. It is our third year of undertaking training in this area. This year we have representatives from Grade 1 –6 that meet our SWPB coordinators fortnightly to have input into acknowledgement system etc. They also present at assembly each week to promote the focus for the week. This week two students used their tokens to request morning tea with the Principal and Assistant Principals.
