SCHOOL HATS: Melton South Primary School is an accredited member of The Australian
Cancer Foundation and therefore follows the required regulations in regard to SunSmart
behaviour. As part of our school’s SunSmart Policy, all students and staff are required to wear
school broad brimmed sunhats from 1st September through to April 30th next year. Hats are
available from the school office for $12.00 each.

NAPLAN RESULTS: Naplan reports for students in grade 3 and 5 will be available for parents to collect from the
school office tomorrow. Parents are advised that we cannot send these home with the students .
FATHER’S DAY STALL: I would like to thank Wanda McDonald, Kellie Ferguson, Natalie
Kapitan, Debra Cooke and Billie Peterson for their hard work last Thursday and Friday at our
Father’s Day Stall. Without these volunteers we would not be able to have these stalls for our
students.
Congratulations to the following students who were the lucky winners of the raffle:

DISCO: The Prep to Grade 2 disco was held last night and was a great success. It was
lovely to see all the students dancing and enjoying themselves. We are now looking
forward to tonight’s disco for the grade 3 to 6 students.
Parents/carers are reminded that the disco finishes at 7.15pm and children are to be
collected from the gym . No child will be allowed to leave the disco until they are picked up
by their parent or carer.
PARENT OPINION SURVEY: PLEASE COMPLETE THE SURVEY IMMEDIATELY: If you were one of the families that
was selected to participate in the Parent Opinion Survey, please log on and complete the survey. The Department
has given an extension for this so please complete the survey as soon as possible. We need your feedback to
ensure we are meeting the needs of all of our students. If we get over 130 surveys completed, we will have a raffle
for cinema tickets.
PREP 2019 ENROLMENTS: Enrolments for 2019 have commenced. If you have a child turning 5 on or before the 30th April 2019, please drop by the office to collect an enrolment pack. This information allows us to commence planning for the coming year and it is vital that we establish student numbers for 2019 as early as possible. When enrolling your child, please bring birth and immunisation records.
PERSONAL PROPERTY: Personal property is often brought to school by staff, students and visitors. DET does not
hold insurance for personal property brought to school and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such
property. If your child brings a bike or scooter to school please also send a lock so it can be secured in the bike
shed.

FOOTY DAY PARADE - FRIDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER
A reminder that the last day of term 3, Friday 21st September is our Team Colours Day. Students are asked to come to school dressed in their favourite team colours. There will be activities running throughout the day for students to participate in. We will be having a parade in the gym in the morning at 9.10am.

ATHLTETICS: Congratulations on the tremendous efforts by all the Melton South Primary School representatives. The efforts from everyone who was in the team was amazing. It was so amazing that other schools could not help but congratulate our students on their excellent effort and sportsmanship! Western Ranges Athletics Representatives: An even bigger congratulations must go to the following students, who will be going to the Western Ranges Athletics as representatives of the Melton Division. Well done and good luck to our representatives. All they girls were terrific with
their sportsmanship along with their game play. Their skills that went on display were magnificent and they should be proud of their efforts because we were. The Grade 5/6 girls had some tough competition with winning 2 out of 4 games and just missing out of the finals.
The Grade 3/ 4 girls had an even better time with winning 3 out of 4 games and making it to the Grand Final. The Final game was a hard fought out tussle with our girls only just falling short to be the Runners up. Again a big congratulations to both teams, you did Melton South PS proud!
SCHOOL LEVEL PARENT PAYMENT CHARGES—2019 A few weeks ago information was sent home regarding fees for 2019. We are encouraging families to start paying these fees by instalments which suit your family budget. Fees for 2019 include:
Core items: Student Diary, Student ID Card and Lanyard, Handwriting Book, French Workbook (Prep— Reading Tub, Library Book Bag). Individual Stationery Pack: Each child will have an individual pack of supplies that have been specifically selected to support the learning needs of children at particular levels of the school. Classroom Project Materials, Cooking and Art Consumables: for items produced and taken home. Literacy & Numeracy: Reading Eggs and Mathletics subscriptions which are accessed at school and at home. Also includes numerous other ICT programs which are only accessible at school. Bulk Classroom Supplies: Each classroom requires a wide range of materials and requisites for shared use by your children in the classroom.
The cost of fees for 2019 are : Grade 1 to Grade 6 $170 per student Prep $180.00 per student These fees must be paid in full by Tuesday 29th January to ensure your child starts the year with all items. In addition to the above fees, School Council are able to request funds to support student and extra-curricular programs and building and grounds development. There are a number of things needed around the school which are not funded by the Department of Education & Training. The extra funds you contribute will assist in upgrading the Sick Bay Facilities. School Council is requesting a voluntary contribution of $20.00 per student.
GRADE 6 MINI FETE—FRIDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER
The Grade 6 students are running a mini-fete for all students in Prep to Grade 5. We
would appreciate if families could donate any of the following to help at all stalls;
minties, small bottles of bubbles, individually wrapped lollies, stationery—coloured
pencils, rubbers, etc., boxes of mini ice cream cones and chocolates such as Favourites/
Celebrations, (no lollipops). Please give any donations to the Grade 6 teachers or leave
at the office.
Attending school every day is vital for students of all ages to fully achieve. As a parent/guardian: Commit to sending children to school
every day. Make sure children arrive at school on time. Inform the school when they are away, sending medical
certificates and other evidence of genuine absence. Consider catching-up on missed work.

LI: Mathematicians can add numbers together to find a total/sum. SC: I can count groups together to find a total/sum.
Year 1 LI: Good readers understand the purpose and structure of a letter. SC: I can describe some of the reasons that people might write a letter. I can identify the important parts of a letter.
LI: Good writers know the structure of a letter. SC: I can write a greeting. I can write my body of text. I can end my letter with a closing.
LI: Good mathematicians can share equally into groups. SC: I can share objects into groups so there are the same number of objects in each group.
Year 2 LI: Good readers understand the structure of an information report. SC: I can identify the different parts of an information report.
LI: Good writers can understand the difference between simple and compound sentences. SC: I can write a simple and compound sentence in my writing.
LI: Good mathematicians are able to complete a Post Test on Fractions. SC: I can complete the post-test to the best of my ability.
Year 3 LI: Good readers understand that narratives are written for a purpose and an audience. SC: I can define the genre ‘science fiction’. I can describe how a text is science fiction.
LI: Good writers use their ideas to write a paragraph. SC: I can include a paragraph that has—topic sentence, one idea where that idea is explained and has sentence structure.
LI: We are learning to solve multiplication strategies. SC: I can skip count and use repeated addition to solve multiplication problems.
Year 4 LI: Good readers can use the strategy of summarising during and after reading to assist with understanding the important parts of the story. SC: I can read a narrative and summarise what I have read during and after reading using - somebody who, wanted, to, then, but, so - and complete these details on a graphic organiser.
LI: Good writers summarise an extract from the TLWW. SC: I can summarise in my own words, a section of a story.
LI: Good mathematicians can compare and contrast the properties of 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes. SC: I can make a 3D object out of 2D shapes. I can identify and compare the two shapes.
Year 5 LI: Good readers infer the plot and theme intended by the author. SC: I can read carefully and I can infer the author’s theme.
LI: Good writers can revise their plan and make appropriate changes. SC: I can revise my written plan and make changes to improve my writing.
LI: Good mathematicians can find unknown quantities in number sentences. SC: I can use number equivalents to create number sentences. I can relate this to my understanding of unknown quantities.
Year 6 LI: Good readers can read a Margaret Wild text and complete a template of text features. SC: I can complete the author study template. I can identify the text type, setting, character, character traits, genre and author message in a story I have read.
LI: Good writers experiment with text structures and language features. SC: I can use sensory language to communicate a vivid picture of feelings.
LI: Good mathematicians can partition a whole number. SC: I can follow Polya’s 4 step to solve a problem.
