WHAT IS HEARING IMPAIRMENT? Losing some hearing in one or both ears.

The level is described as mild, moderate, moderate to severe, severe, or profound.

Three different types of Hearing Impairment: conductive hearing loss, sensory hearing loss, and neural hearing loss.

CAUSES OF HEARING IMPAIRMENT Sensory hearing loss: a damage to the inner

ear (cochlea) or hearing nerve in the brain Conductive hearing loss: sound is not

conducted efficiently through the ear canal, ear drum or middle ear.

Neural hearing loss: a damaged auditory nerve

POSSIBLE TREATMENT Sensory Neural Hearing Loss: Hearing aid

and cochlear implant Neural Hearing Loss: No possible treatment Conductive Hearing Loss: surgery, hearing

aids, clearing the built-up fluids in the ear canal, removing excessive ear wax, and medications

(ACSA) is one of the big non-for-profit organizations in Toronto.

Services: Emplyoment/Financial Literacy, newcomer settlement services, food bank and cooking classes, early years.
