What Major(s) are you interested in?› Why?› What interests you about it?› Possible careers?› Were you inspired by a professor, high

school teacher, family friend, public figure?A few notes:• If you declare Business prior to fall 2012 then you will be automatically part of the College of Business. • Education is NOT a major. Visit the Education Department’s website for additional information.

Pros: More time to

devote to studies Keep momentum Have it done when

you start working, not weighing over you

Not as many personal commitments

Cons: Budget concerns

› Student Loans Seeing classmates

begin their careers may be frustrating

Straight out of undergrad (full-time?)

Pros: Money to live on

your own, buy and keep up car

“Real world” experience prior to graduate studies may help you fine tune your academic goals

Work First

TIP: Know your discipline.

e.g. MBA programs usually require you

to work a couple of years before starting on an MBA

Know your career choice Does it make you overqualified

(especially for an entry-level position)? Will you still be interested in it years

from now? Is a degree with a solid future or is it

just a “fad” degree?

If you aren’t going to declare at the end of the year (perhaps you won’t have the 28 credits needed), you will remain undeclared.

Those ready to declare can begin the process online. Videos tutorials can be found at: http://www.umw.edu/cas/acservices/resources/video_guides.php

Note: Once you declare a Major you can add up to two Minors for each Major.

Everyone take a moment to read the letter you wrote to yourself during Meeting 1. Afterwards,

we will discuss the following questions.

What is your initial reaction after reading the letter? What have you learned about yourself and about college over the course of the year?Have your goals changed? How?Have you changed? How?

Take a few minutes to either write letters to next year’s freshmen or have a class discussion with

someone taking notes. Your Advisor will send the notes or letters to Academic Services for

consideration.

Ideas for discussion: What is one idea you learned this semester or last that

got you really excited? What is one thing that changed how you viewed the

world? What was your biggest mistake? What have you done to correct your biggest mistake? What was your biggest success? How have you changed? What would you tell entering UMW freshmen?

If you experience extensive illness or a serious family emergency anytime now until the end of the semester, you may want to consider contacting Academic Services to request Incompletes in your classes. Follow the above link for additional information.
