The History of Bethel-Hanberry Established as a high school in 1949
Became a junior high school in 1970
Became a middle school in 1980
Renamed as Bethel-Hanberry Elementary in 1991 and has been proudly serving Pre-kindergarten through 5th grade since that time.
Bethel-Hanberry’s Vision Bethel-Hanberry Elementary School is a place where successful student leaders develop through empowering, engaging and inspiring opportunities. We nurture creativity and discovery because they are essential components in authentic learning. Bethel-Hanberry is also a place where teachers model and teach, expecting only the highest level of achievement for each child. Parents and guardians find that they are encouraged to be active in their children's school experience through their participation and support.
Bethel-Hanberry’s Vision We ensure that we will expand every child's capacity for learning by urging students to lead based on integrity; explore all opportunities to grow; achieve at the highest levels; and demonstrate their personal best.
We are proud to say that BHE is a school where all children can LEAD and succeed!

Clear expectations and rewards for those who follow those expectations.
One-on-one support where necessary.
Celebrating success
Community pride!
PBIS – Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports
Our teachers manage classroom behavior with a preventative approach.
Consistent school and classroom expectations are continuously emphasized through PBIS.
Teachers will communicate with you regularly if they have concerns (behavioral or academic) and you should expect positive communication as well.
School-wide Discipline Communication is the key!
• Parent Communication Form
• Discipline Referral
Minor vs. Major Infractions If a student has a behavior infraction, the level of the offense
determines the level of the consequence. For example, major incidents such as hitting/striking, kicking, biting, continual disrespect, refusal to obey, verbal/physical threats, cheating/lying, or possession of prohibited items or materials may be offenses which warrant suspension.
We follow the Richland School District Two Code of Conduct Policies.

Attendance Students are allowed no more than 10 absences.
Parents must provide a written excuse within five days of the date of absence, otherwise the absence is marked “unverified” (unexcused).
Students are considered truant after three consecutive days of absence or any five days of absence when there is not an excuse submitted within five days of the absence(s).
Attendance For medical issues, the district may provide
homebound instruction. You must apply for this with information provided by your child’s healthcare provider. The district makes the determination as to whether the homebound request is accepted, not the school.
The homebound coordinator at Bethel-Hanberry is Mrs. Erin Elkins.
Arrival/Drop-Off and Dismissal/Pick-Up
1. Students have waiting areas for each grade level and should go directly to those areas upon arriving at school each day unless they are eating breakfast in the cafeteria.
2. Changes to regular daily afternoon transportation must be made in writing and given to the teacher the morning of the change. That note must clearly state, for example, "Suzy will not ride Bus 78 home today. She will be a car rider and her grandmother, Ms. Green, will pick her up." The note must also state a contact phone number for verification. Please do not email changes to teachers. In the event of an emergency only, you may call the front office and/or fax a note no later than 2:15.
Arrival/Drop-Off and Dismissal/Pick-Up
3. Car Riders Entrance to the car-rider line is located to the left side of the gym.
• One Lane in the morning - exit vehicle on “sidewalk side”/right passenger side only (for safety)
• Two Lanes in the afternoon (follow blue line through back parking lot)
*Left Lane PK- 2nd, Right Lane – 3rd – 5th
*Older siblings sit in younger sibling waiting area
*Students load from right passenger side only (for safety)
Please have “Hang Tag” visible in car window with child’s name PRINTED.
Arrival/Drop-Off and Dismissal/Pick-Up
4. Bus Riders
• Child Development and Kindergarten students must have an adult meet them at the bus stop in the afternoons or have written permission (bus escort form) for older siblings who are also on the bus with them to provide supervision for them from the bus stop until they arrive home.
• Drivers will not release Child Development or Kindergarten students to anyone not listed on the bus escort/permission form and will return the child to BHE.
Arrival/Drop-Off and Dismissal/Pick-Up
5. Day Cares -
*Several daycares pick up students at BHE.
*Students are dismissed to assigned areas at dismissal and released to the designated representatives of these daycares.
*If your child is normally picked up by a daycare and there is a change to his/her transportation, it is your responsibility to not only notify the school, but also the daycare.
Arrival/Drop-Off and Dismissal/Pick-Up
Our doors are opened to students at 7:30 each morning. Please don’t let them out of the vehicle prior to this time and please wait until an adult is on duty before letting them out.
Morning drop off (7:30 – 8:00) and afternoon pick-up (2:50 – 3:15) are done through the car-rider line only (entrance to the line is the road beside the gym).
Early Release/Early Pick-Up 2:15 p.m. is the latest that we will release students for early pick-up through the main office (district-wide procedure). After 2:15, parents who have missed the 2:15 early pick-up time will need to go through the car-rider line to pick up their child when regular dismissal begins at 2:50.
