On Saturday we hosted the New parents’ meet and greet fun morning. Firstly, I would like to thank all of those parents who attended.
The meeting allowed teach-ers and parents to get to know one another in a relaxed environment. Many of the fun activities such as tug-o-wars, sing offs, Zumba dancing, etc. planned by the Grade RR
and R team were received by willing participants and an appreciative audience.
Our 3-way triangle between learners, teachers
and parents is es-sential to maintain and support our learners to produce their very best!
Once again, the support for this small and intimate event was very much appreciated.
Thank you to Mrs Fortune and all our staff for your time, energy and contribution to our event. We are all eagerly awaiting our next school event, which is our Annual Sports Event on Saturday the 16th February !

What’s
happening the
following week?
Kidz Chronicle
Ask your children open-ended questions that don’t have a right or wrong answer. Your goal is to try to stimulate their thought processes, so you should be talking about something that the child is interested in and something that really makes them think.
Be a devil’s advocate and say something outrageous, so that your children must debate and disagree with you. This can help them learn how to find flaws in someone else’s evidence or
reasoning. Also make sure you are giving the child time to respond. There is no rush, just
enjoy the silence while they think about what they might say.
When reading books, have children make connections and look for clues that will help them
to think more deeply about what they are reading. Making connections will help your child
learn how to use what he or she already knows to tackle new problems.
Give your opinion and show your own thought processes by thinking out loud about how to solve little problems or complete tasks around the house. Let your children make decisions themselves by weighing the pros and cons of a choice – and don’t be afraid to let them make the wrong decision. Later you can discuss with your child how they think the decision turned out.
If you like watching TV with your children, you can talk to them about commercials and how information can be manipulated to make claims that aren’t necessarily true. It is vital for our children to develop critical thinking skills, instead of simply being passive receptors of the large amount of media and information they receive through the array of technology we have today.
Our children, instead of passively accepting all information, need to be able to sift through this with under-standing and questioning. This is, in fact, a life skill needed by us all.
HOW TO GET YOUR CHILD TO BE-COME A CRITICAL THINKER? https://samontessori.org.za/wp-content/
What is critical thinking? Critical thinking is all about knowing how to think, engaging in logic and analysis. As parents how do we help our chil-dren to become critical thinkers? Here are some tips and ideas to help children build a foundation for criti-cal thinking:
Provide opportunities for play
Pause and wait
Don't intervene immediately
Ask open-ended questions
Help children develop hypothe-ses
Encourage critical thinking in new and different ways
Here are some ideas you can use with your children, found at www.gradeinfinity.com/?p=3169:

What makes our school rock?
Please email us and tell us why CityKidz rocks.
We would like to enter the @Jacarandafm My
School Rocks competition. We have to show them why our school rocks . We then stand a chance to win massive prizes
for our school, if we are successful! Differ-ent schools rock for different reasons, and Breakfast with Martin Bester wants to know what makes our school extra special.
We have to demonstrate how our school rocks by mailing a video. This was shot by Mr Dean Krain on Wednesday...so watch this space!
CityKidz rocks because it has the best learners,
teachers, parents and the best spirit.
