    About 30% of US population areobese (> 30 pounds over healthyweight) compared to 23% in 1980s

    and 15 % in 1970s.

    The US Census Bureau predicts theUS population will grow by 50 million

    between 2000 and 2020, thesepeople will need primary care.

    According to HeLP (Healty Lifestylesand Preventive America Act of 2004,38.2% of all US deaths in 2000 were

    due to tobacco use, poor nutrition &physical inactivity, and alcoholconsumption.

    In 1950, the US health careexpenditures were 4.5% of GDP.

    By 2001, they rose to 14.1% of GDP.

    Expected to continue to rise due totechnology, medications, and agingpopulation.

    US is the most technologicallyadvanced and most expensive in theworld.
