Rachel’sMSiscategorizedastheprimaryprogressiveMS(PPMS)type,inwhichthediseaseprogressesfromtheonsetwithoccasionalplateaus,temporaryminorimprovements,andacuterelapses.Overthecourseofherdisease,shehastakentheimmunosuppressivetherapiescyclosporine,methotrexate,cyclophosphamide,interferon,andsteroids.
MostofthetreatmentsRachelhastriedhavetemporarilyhalteddiseaseprogression,buttheyhavenotresultedinlong-termsymptommanagement.Asaresult,Rachelhasbecomereliantonmedicalmarijuanaforsymptommanagement,whichhasofferedtheonlyconsistentreliefofhersymptoms.Ratherthanfly,shedrovetoKCsothatcouldbringmarijuanaonhertriptocontrolhersymptoms.
