On Tuesday, September 22, Medic welcomed thirteen new field employees. These twelve paramedics and one EMT will be hitting the streets of Mecklenburg County soon enough, but are currently participating in Medic’s six week orientation process.

As most of your can remember, the new hires will be put through a series of training days, including learning Medic’s protocols, driver’s safety testing and much more. Once the new hires successfully pass all requirements during orientation, they will be officially released to the field.

Please help Medic welcome these thirteen new field employees:

The finance department would also like to welcome Cynthia Jefferson, as the new Revenue Cycle Analyst. Cynthia will start at Medic on Tuesday, September 29th. Please help the finance department welcome Cynthia by stopping by and welcoming her to the Agency.

Next Liaison Committee Meeting

PLEASE READ: Contacting Gaston Memorial or Northeast Medical

When contacting Gaston Memorial or Northeast Medical for an in bound patient you will need to call via phone. There are two ways to do this:

1) Call the E.D. direct on the cell phone provided at: Gaston Memorial 704-834-2790 Northeast Medical 704-403-1269

2) Call CMED and asked to be transferred to the appropriate E.D. – This is a one button transfer that CMED can get you into the triage desk.

There is a GASTON and NORTHEAST talk group in the mobile and port-able radios, however this is a “placeholder” for a future talk group on the state-wide or appropriate neighboring radio system that will be available shortly (after re-banding). The GASTON and NORTHEAST talk group in your radios will not work at this time. There have been several transports to Gaston and Northeast in which encodes were attempted on the radio and the facilities have not been notified of in bound patients. If you have any questions, please contact your immediate supervisor or Todd Simms ([email protected]).

The next Liaison Meeting is scheduled for Friday, Oc-tober 2nd at 1600 hours. The Committee recommended that meetings be held the first Friday of each month so as to allow the schedule to rotate between A and B rotations. We still need your input! If you are interested in attending or if there is something you would like to see addressed and believe the Liaison Committee is the place to start, please contact Lisa Wil-son ([email protected]) for additional details. Thank you!

Note: Patient Satisfaction Numbers Updated from the September 21, 2009 edition of the Dispatch

The latest results for the first tracking period of the Performance Pay Program are in! Everything is still on target with the exception of Patient Satisfaction. On the bright side, Patient Satisfaction continue to tick upward. We have not yet begun to receive data from September’s polling, so keep working hard and focus on those patient and family interactions.

We only need to see a 3.9% increase in Patient Satisfaction over the next 6 weeks to hit this target—a very achievable target if everyone stays focused on it.

If you have any questions or concerns about the Performance Pay Program, feel free to speak with your Supervisor or Jeff Keith anytime.

Medic Financial Standing vs. Budget: ON TARGET

Patient Satisfaction: 61.1%

Hospital Turn Times: 34:33

Response Time Compliance: P1 = 96.59%; P2 = 98.06%; P3 = 96.62%

Help Protect Yoursel f and Medic from the Flu !

Congratulations to ALL Employees who received commendations for the month of August!

Last week, Medic hung posters on all of Post 100’s main entry ways. During this upcoming flu season, employees need to start protecting themselves and protecting Medic by knowing flu systems and what to do if they are sick. Employees will soon

be receiving more communications on flu and H1NI - but still employees need to pay close attention to the posters and know when they truly are sick:

Do you feel sick?

You may have the flu if you have fever or chills

AND

cough or sore throat.

You may also have a runny nose, body aches, a headache, tiredness, diarrhea, or vomiting.

If you think you have the flu, tell your supervisor and stay home, except to get medical care. www.flu.gov

Clean Your Hands

1) Clean hands often with alcohol-based hand cleaner. Rub hands well until completely dry. OR

1) Use antimicrobial soap and warm water when hands are visibly dirty. 2) Lather over hands, fingers and nails. 3) Rinse hands completely. 4) Dry hands with paper towel or air dryer. 5) Turn off water with paper towel, not bare hands. Department of Veterans Affairs
