STATUILEStatuia de bronz a lui Traian disp`ruse deja \n 1588, când un pap` l-a instalat \n vârful columnei pe Sf. Petru. Aceas-t` reconstituire e bazat` pe sculpturi [i monede romane. Traian privea probabil spre forumul lui; Sf. Petru e ori-entat c`tre Vatican.
FORUMUL LUI TRAIAN
Tamburii au fost fi xa]i cu cepuri de metal introduse \n scobituri.
Scenele sunt separate de elemente precum copaci, construc]ii sau fi guri orientate \n direc]ii opuse.
COLUMNA LUI TRAIAN
PLATFORM~Un dispozitiv de rostogolire permitea ca tamburii s` fi e deplasa]i orizontal de la pu]ul de ridicare la cel de coborâre.

ZONA DE COBORÂRE
PictareaFriza a fost probabil pictat` \n culori vii pentru a eviden]ia prezen]a lui Traian \n scene [i a face detaliile mai u[or de v`zut. Nu s-au p`strat m`rturii pe column` care s` indice exact culorile.
Sculptarea|ntre [ase [i opt sculptori au lucrat simultan, folosind o mare diversitate de unelte – spun speciali[tii.
Preg`tireaLucr`torii au netezit supra-fa]a cu d`l]ile, creând o zon` de lucru pentru friz`.
Se presupune c` dup` ce Traian [i so]ia lui au murit, cenu[a lor a fost depus` \n urne de aur identice.

G`urirea|n mâinile multor lupt`tori au fost f`cute g`uri \n care s-au montat arme [i unelte din metal.
MECANISM DE RIDICAREOameni [i cai roteau ni[te mecanisme circulare, nu-mite cabestane. Folosind mai multe \n acela[i timp, puteau ob]ine sufi cient` for]` pentru a ridica [i cobor\ tamburii.

Vulturii – simbo-luri ale lui Jupiter [i, prin extensie, ale victoriei \n r`zboi – erau ade-sea reprezenta]i \n lucr`rile de art` triumfal` romane.
O scar` cu 185 de trepte duce la balconul din vârf.
Me[terii au sculptat \n linie dreapt` pe column`, de jos \n sus, \n loc s` se roteasc` de jur \mprejurul ei.
Diametrul la baza columnei este de 3,6 m.

Fiecare tambur cânt`rea cam 30 de tone.
FRIZA |N SPIRAL~Odat` ce tamburii cilindrici au fost fi xa]i, artizanii au \n-ceput s` lucreze la friza lun-g` de 200 m. Unii specia-li[ti spun c` s-ar fi lucrat dup` un plan general; al]ii spun c` erorile [i incon-secven]ele \n \n`l]imea scenelor arat` c` au sculp-tat povestea din mers.
PiedestalulColumna se ridic` de pe o baz` alc`tuit` din opt blocuri de marmur`. Deasupra u[ii a fost d`ltuit` o inscrip]ie, iar pe p`r]ile laterale au fost sculptate arme [i scuturi dacice – prada de r`zboi. |n interior se afl a mormântul lui Traian [i al so]iei sale, Pompeia Plotina.
Construc]ia columneiLucr`torii au scos marmur` din Carrara de ast`zi, apoi au transportat-o cam 400 km pân` la [antierul din Roma. Columna a fost ridicat` \n mai pu]in de [apte ani. Tehnologia e atât de precis`, \ncât columna st` \n picioa-re de aproape dou` milenii. Se crede c` Apollodor din Damasc (dreapta), arhitectul Forumului lui Traian, a proiectat [i columna.
INSCRIP}IA Inscrip]ia \i dedic` lui Traian columna, ca dar din partea Senatului [i a poporului Romei. E considerat` cel mai remarcabil exemplu de scriere roman` sculptat` p`strat` pân` ast`zi.
Literele au fost probabil pictate mai \ntâi cu o pensul` plat`, cu marginile \n unghi drept.
Apoi au fost d`l-tuite \n forma unor [`n]ule]e adânci, \n form` de V.
Acestea au fost concepute s` creeze umbre [i erau probabil pictate.
MONUMENTE SIMILAREModelul unic al Columnei lui Traian a inspi-rat [i alte monumente construite pentru a-i onora pe Marc Aureliu, Arcadiu [i al]ii. Columna lui Marc Aureliu e \nc` \n pi-cioare, dar cea a lui Arcadiu a fost distru-s` \n mare parte \n secolul al XVIII-lea.
TAMBURII DE MARMUR~Lucr`torii au scobit interioarele a 17 tamburi , cioplind o scar` circular` [i t`ind ferestre, apoi i-au suprapus.
PROCESUL
TURNUL DE SCHELEUn sistem sofi sticat de schele [i scripe]i, instalat \ntr-un spa]iu \ngust, cu pu]uri separate pentru ridicare [i coborâre, a fost probabil folosit pentru a instala tamburii.

Pentru a-l onora pe cuceritorul Daciei, Senatul a comandat un monument inedit. Columna de 38 m, dedicat` lui Traian \n 113 d.Hr., a fost o perfor-man]` arhitectural`. Friza sculptat`, care spiraleaz` de 23 de ori \n jurul coloanei de marmur`, spune povestea celor dou` r`zboaie consecutive.
