The New House is the Super English house that will be available upon your arrival to SuratThani! The house is located on Yanggaumsoi 5- a great location to help you adjust to Thailand until you find a place of your own!

Rent: Free!

Pros:A large seven-bedroom house equipped with a living room, kitchen and two bathrooms. There are four larger bedrooms furnished with a double bed, a wardrobe and a fan. The smaller bedrooms are furnished with a twin bed, a wardrobe and a fan. Both of the bathrooms are large, have great water pressure and

have hot water! As mentioned before, this house is in a great location! It’s within walking distance from convenient stores, restaurants and ATMs! It is a great transition house while you adjust to a new lifestyle!

Cons:Although the house has a kitchen- it only consists of a sink and fridge. Most Thai houses (especially rentals) aren’t equipped with full functioning western kitchens. Luckily, the house is located near some great restaurants where one can get food for as cheap as 35baht! The house tends to be quite hot- at all times of the day and

year. Every room comes with a fan, but when one is adjusting to Thai heat it never seems to be enough!

Creatures:Like any house, if the new house is not taken care of properly, than ants will invade.The occasional cockroach can be spotted scurrying across the floor but is harmless! If the house is regularly cleaned and looked after than the

geckos will be able to take care of the rest!

Driving Distances:It takes between 5-10 minutes to get to Thida and about 25 minutes to get to the International School.

Surrounding Areas:Considering its great location, there are a variety of restaurants and shops within walking distance.

One of the most popular restaurants among Super teachers is Corner Guy. It is located on the corner of

Amphur and Chalokratt, just moments away from the New house. The owners name is Ya, he serves delicious and cheap food. Most dishes are priced around 40-50baht, but one of his best dishes is 80baht. Yum YotMaprow is deep fried coconut slices and is well worth 80baht!

Across the road on Amphur is Good Health- a delicious Thai restaurant with a massive menu and air conditioning. Good Health is great for vegetarians who

have yet to master how to modify dishes in Thai.

The stadium is located close by and offers a track, sports field, and endless people watching for free! There is a gym at the stadium offers daily and monthly prices. There are a variety of laundry places located near the new house; the closest is just a few blocks down Yanggaum towardsAmphur. The outside is painted lime green and is right across the street from a yellow apartment building. If this laundry place doesn’t strike your fancy then don’t fret! Laundry places are quite abundant and easy to find- just look for racks of drying clothes!

balcony. The front bedroom is slightly larger and has air-conditioning. Both bathrooms have great water pressure and hot water.

The house is very spacious and clean. Its in a safe area and is surrounded by a variety of restaurants, shops and convenient stores. The super house is located directly across Soi 5, so you are bound to see some friendly faces! Since

Peter knows the landlady, rent just gets taken out of your paycheck. Making it simple and

easy, no stress about making a late payment!

Creatures: None. The corner house is on the newer side- meaning it is very clean. The only creatures that roam its walls are geckos. Geckos are harmless, and even eat other bugs… Geckos are our friends!

New Apartments!

Landlord: The landlords are a lovely husband and wife who live on property in an apartment connected to the office. The wife can speak English, but a majority of the staff cannot. Everyone is very patient and work together if they are needed.

Pros: These hotel styled furnished apartments are brand new! They include a full sized bed, wardrobe with full sized mirror, desk, fridge and cable television! commodity in Thailand) are on site. For those of you who prefer having your laundry washed and folded the laundry man is directly across the street. The apartment building is extremely clean- a 200baht cleaning fee is optional if one would like a cleaning service for their apartment.

Cons: All of the apartments are studio style. Every apartment comes with a fridge, but is not equipped with cooking utensils. Although the shower has hot water, it has weaker water pressure.

Creatures: The new apartments are not very buggy, especially the higher you live in the building. The hallways have a few mosquitos, but the rooms are mostly fine. The occasionally gecko might find its way into the apartment, but quickly leaves once it realizes there are no bugs to eat!

Wat Pho house!

Three bedroom, three bath townhouse located on Wat Pho14!

Landlord:The landlords are a sweet Thai couple who live across the street. Only steps away if one has an inquiry or concern!

Pros:The Wat pho house is a newer townhouse, with a whopping three bedrooms and three bathrooms. If you weren’t intrigued already, two of its bathrooms have hot water making it even more desirable! This two-story home has a very spacious living room and kitchen. Although the house is big, sound does not seem to travel.

Cons:One of the downsides to the Wat Pho house is that there are no mosquito nets on any of the windows. Since the house does not have air conditioning, the windows are open a lot. Giving mosquitos the freedom to fly about the house whenever they please.

Creatures:As stated in the cons, if the windows are open, then mosquitos seem to roam about the house freely. The house is a bit newer, so if kept clean the tenants should be able to avoid the nastier creatures, such as cockroaches and ants!

Driving Distance:The Wat Pho house is located on Wat Pho 14 (as the name suggests). It takes about 15 minutes

to get to the international school and 20 or so minutes to get to Thida. This location is prime for teachers who work at the international school, and want to be in town without having a long trek to work everyday!

Surrounding Areas:There are many shops, restaurants and markets located within close vicinity.

One of the more popular restaurants around the Wat Pho house is Orange Box, nicknamed for its bright orange walls. Orange Box is known for their cheap Thai food and 35 baht salads! Yes, you read right, 35 baht salads! Salads can be a rarity in SuratThani, and typically if a restaurant serves a salad it is around 100 baht-making orange box a steal!

Some other great centrally located restaurants are Cat café, Do Nom (milkshake shop), the soup lady- next to orange box and the wonderful Cupcake Café for when one is in need of air-conditioning and wifi! On Wednesday there is a large night market located just a moments walk from the Wat Pho house!

A huge benefit to living in the Wat Pho house, is it’s close proximity to Makro- a wholesale grocery store.

The Bungalows!

The bungalows are a collection of five Thai style bungalows located on a pond, surrounded by the jungle and river. There are three different types of bungalows: two newer small bungalows with one room and an attached bathroom, two medium bungalows with a room and attached bathroom, and one larger with two rooms and a bathroom.The bungalows are a very popular place of residence, and therefore are typically always occupied by western teachers!

Rent:The small bungalows are 4,800baht or 5,300baht with air conditioning. The two medium bungalows are priced at 5,300baht with air conditioning. And lastly, the large two-room bungalow is6,300baht with air conditioning in the bedroom.

Utilities: Included up to 300baht, if the tenant exceeds 300baht then they are required to pay the entire bill.

Wifi:Included

Landlord:The lovely Looann and her husband Kunmoo own all of the bungalows and live just across the street. Looann knows a bit more English, and therefore tends to deal with any bungalow inquires/issues. They both can be quite, but are really great landlords- they know a lot about the surrounding areas and are eager to help!

Pros:The bungalows are a great place to live if one wants to be out of the city and surrounded by nature. They are perfect for an individual or couples who want to live on their own, but would like to live with a community of other teachers! All five of the

bungalows share an outdoor kitchen. This is a hot commodity for Thailand! Most Thai houses (especially rentals) do not come equipped with a kitchen. A kitchen area is typically designated for a fridge and sink, but no equipment to cook.

The bungalows are very quite and peaceful but have plenty of space if one wants to host get a together! There are three different wooden gazebos that over look the river, a large wooden table in the kitchen, and a smaller stone table between the two small bungalows.

Cons:As mentioned before, the bungalows have a shared kitchen. This can be both and good and bad thing, depending on whether or not its looked after. Its great to have a space to make a home cooked meal, but can also get extremely buggy and grimy if it’s not cleaned properly.

Creatures:Since the bungalows are located in the countryside (aka jungle) you encounter a fair share of creatures. The mosquitos seem to be at their worse during dust, but luckily all of the bungalows windows have mosquito screens.Monitor lizards live in the surrounding jungle and can typically be spotted swimming the in pond. The occasional snake is spotted on the jungle road or even on the paths leading to the bungalows, but they normally keep to themselves. But creepy creatures are not the only ones to roam around the jungle; one will most likely see a beautiful display of fireflies on a nightly basis!

Driving Distances:It takes about 10-15 minutes to get to Thida and about 25-30 minutes to get to the International school.

Surrounding Areas:

A huge perk to living in the bungalows and surrounding areas is that it is extremely close to the pool and KohLampu(exercise island). The pool tends to be the weekend hangout for teachers who are in Surat. Kohlampu is perfect for anyone who wants to stay fit without having to pay any fees.

Under the Bridge is an isaan restaurantlocated under the Donnok bridge (as the name suggests), just moments away from the bungalows! It is a super English favorite,

especially for larger dinner parties, as it serves amazing family style meals! Crossroads is another isaan style restaurant on the river; it plays live music, has a lovely atmosphere but can be expensive. A variety of shops and cafes have recently opened up on the main road, including a 711! The parking lot of the 711 is the home of the Som Tom lady and Roti cart; quick, cheap and delicious meals! Laundry machines are located near the entrance to KohLampu. There one can do a massive amount of laundry for only 30baht!

Larger Two-Room Bungalow

Landlord:A man from New Zealand named Gram and his wife Sompan. Their entire family lives on property and is really great! Anyone of the family members is willing to help if there are any issues. Sompan’s mom and dad own a tiny convenient shop just off the main road, which is great for last minute ingredients.

Pros:The container house is extremely spacious and has very cheap rent. Since the house is made of shipping containers it has large doors on the ends that open up for great relaxing views. Many teachers have lived in the container house over the years, leaving behind bits of their furnishings to make the house have a homier feel! The house is furnished with two mattresses, a clothing rack, desk, bookshelves, multiple fold-up tables and two chairs in the living room. The container house is great for two friendslooking to live together or a couple who would like a bit of space!

Cons:Even though you are equipped with things to cook with, you have to do the dishes outside. Since the house is made of metal, it can get really hot during the day. The bathroom is a free standing room that is attached to the house. It is western style, but there is no hot water and the toilet must be flushed by dumping a bucket of water into it.

Creatures:Like the bungalows, the container house is located

in the jungle. Meaning, a fair amount of critters will be wondering around. These creatures may include rats in the fruit trees, monitor lizards, snakes and mosquitos. A majority of those creatures will stay outside- only mosquitos and geckos like to explore the inside.

Never Never Land!

The Never Never Land bungalows are perfect for the individual who enjoys nature, being tucked away from the chaos of the town, and cheap rent!

Rent:3,500baht for the smaller one bedroom bungalow and5,000bahtfor the larger two-bedroom bungalow with a kitchen.

Utilities: Included

Wifi:Attainable- the current tenants had wifi installed in the larger bungalow for 13,000baht. That included all the installation pieces and maintenance so one can assume the price to be cheaper since the package has already been installed and will only need to be renewed.

Landlord:The landlord is a friendly Thai man who speaks a reasonable amount of English and is very handy. He is constantly repairing and upgrading the bungalows.

He will occasionally invite his tenants over for a dinner consisting of freshly grilled monitor lizard!

Pros:As mentioned before, the bungalows are located in the countryside, completely surrounded by the jungle and river! There are no neighboring bungalows around the property- yet there is a very friendly community and one is bound to get to know much of the village. The smaller bungalow is a cozy one bedroom with an attached bathroom and porch. It sits just near the jungle- where a lovely hammock hangs! The larger bungalow is very roomy. It has two

bedrooms, a large living room and a kitchen equipped with a fridge, sink, burner and kettle. There are plenty of windows all covered with mosquito screens and has various fans to help keep the heat to a minimum!

Cons: Unfortunately, the smaller bungalow does not have mosquito screens on the windows and therefore would get pretty toasty if you don’t want to get eaten alive by bugs! There’s a huge possibility that if requested, the landlord would simply install screens or one could put up mosquito netting purchased from the 20baht store! The smaller bungalow also does not include a kitchen, but there is a semi closed outdoor parlor area, which could make a lovely kitchen if one wanted to purchase a fridge and burner!

Creatures:As any house in the jungle, the never never land bungalow’s have their fair amount of creatures. Although the larger house has screens, ants and bugs can still find their way in through cracks in

the structure. If one cleans up, then the amount of bugs would be significantly less. The bungalows are located in a private part of the jungle, meaning that there are a high chance of snakes and lizards roaming around the premises. Similar to the bungalows and container house, fireflies tend to display a bit of beauty in the trees!

Karunrat Apartments!

Landlord:The landlady is a sweet woman who lives on property. She is very patient and always takes care of things when they are needed. If you play your cards right she will watch your bike when you are out of town.

Pros:These hotel styled furnished apartments are newer. They include a full sized bed, a wardrobe, desk, and fridge! The buildings have laundry facilities on site. The apartments are located in a quite part of town and are extremely safe/convenient.

Cons:All of the apartments are studio style. Every apartment comes with a fridge, but is not equipped with cooking utensils. Iron bars have been placed on the balcony to ensure safety, but tend to make the apartment seem a bit caged in.

Creatures:The newer apartments are not very buggy, especially on the higher floors. The hallways have a few mosquitos, but the rooms are mostly fine.

Driving Distances:It takes about 7-10 minutes to get to Thida and about 15-20 minutes to get to the International school.

There are many shops, restaurants and markets located within close vicinity.These apartments are located on KarunratSoi 3. They are conveniently located to the Karunrat market, where food is cheap and delicious. A 711 and Isaan restaurant are across the street, making everything just a short walk. A popular café called My Cup is just two minutes away by motorbike and is great for a coffee break with air-conditioning and free wifi!
