NO FILM SCHOOL NoFilmSchool is a site for DIY filmmakers

and independent creatives. The site focuses on tools and technology relevant to filmmakers, writers, directors, editors, producers, cinematographers, bloggers, designers, and entrepreneurs.

NoFilmSchool was created by Ryan Koo

WHO THE HECK IS RYAN KOO? When he started this site in 2005 he was unemployed

and living with my parents in North Carolina.

His goal was to get himself to New York and start a film career — without any connections, and without going to film school.

And this site got him there.

It’s a long story, but thanks to this blog he was able to lie his way into a job at MTV (and a three-year career as graphic designer).

HIS DSLR GUIDE That “movie mode” hidden in the menu

system of your new DSLR? AMAZING GUIDE! This guide was written by him reading

forums and learning from all the available teaching platforms online. E.g. Phillip Bloom

Also includes great people and websites to check out.

You could do some research into writing your own book?

PHILLIP BLOOM “My site has also gone from

becoming a place to showcase my work to a place for people to learn and share. There is a wealth of information on my site for both the seasoned and junior film maker. I hope you find it useful. We all need as much help as we can get to make it these days and I hope I can help.”

HOW TO’S: Phillip bloom and Film Riot "Film Riot is the best of the bunch. Serving

as an on-demand film school, this series stands out as a prime example of under-the-radar geeks who carved out a DIY niche that’s both useful and entertaining". - Wired.com

CREATE YOUR OWN HOW TO VIDEOS, they teach you and others and its like creating a behind the scenes of a movie

SUCCESS??!!

If you get successful enough at blogging and critiquing or even teaching equipment companies may ask you to rate and advertise their kit!

We setting up a website don’t forget to allow advertising hosts… that way when it gets more popular you can make some pennies…

My horrible example of a website that has been neglected…. Roxanne Prophet

Get started…. Get you name at wordpress.com and start documenting your career… make your own digital CV… So that you can become a runner at ITV just by handing over your business card or adding your website to a link in an email

Page 11: Media Platforms Workshop

Me working for ITV last summerEver heard of Red or Black?

Page 12: Media Platforms Workshop

Also Boozin’ n’ Schmoozin’

This would all be great to have when you meet other or more experienced filmmakers to give your business cards.

SO GET OUT THERE!!

Make a to do list with a deadline and advertise it through your blog.

Let people know that you are learning and what mistakes you have made!

Page 14: Media Platforms Workshop

Vimeo Vs. YouTube Vimeo is a better blog than any other. It’s a blog

that visually shows what your up to and is basically your portfolio online!

YouTube… Its great to get a lot of views but its not what the industry looks for.

You can make it look good and professional but with Vimeo this is a lot easier to do.

But you can make it professional
