MEDIA KIT WINTER 2016/17
Powderlife & Summerlife bottle the essence of the Niseko lifestyleThe food, culture, landscape and outdoors – all year round
20,000 copies in Niseko, HK & Singapore 10,000 copies in Niseko over winter
Our 10th Anniversary Edition!
This year the Powderlife team celebrates our:
Powderlife has always been Niseko's "must-read" mag thanks to its quality,
independence and innovation – now backed up by 10 years of street cred.
For our 10th Anniversary Edition, we're going to take things to the next level. We're
excited to introduce a new standard of publication to the Niseko media landscape.
We'll deliver a product that will look like it belongs on the shelves of bookstores in
Tokyo, Hong Kong or Sydney. It will sit strikingly on coffee tables illustrating that
otherwise indescribable magic of Niseko to visitors here, and around the world.
How are we doing it?
It’s been another year in the making! While our creative team has
been travelling to major cities and tourist destinations around the
world over the past year, we’ve researched what’s new, intelligent and
effective in contemporary travel media. With this insight now at hand,
once again we’ll deliver a “first-of-its-kind” for Niseko.
We’re printing on completely new paper stock that will enhance
the already stunning imagery we curate from renowned local and
international photographers, and make the magazines lighter and
easier to take home.
We’re also overhauling the structure and flow of content, as well as
changing the way we tell stories, adding rich new layers of detail to
the magazines.
With this contemporary new layout, beautifully crafted copy, elegant
typography, and heart-in-mouth photography, Powderlife will again
be a powerful promotional tool to drive Niseko in its entirety as the
world’s most exciting new ski destination.
We promise you will want to be part of it.
Powderlife Editor Kristian Lund is a former newspaper journalist, media advisor and marketing consultant who spent
time growing up in Japan as a child and teenager, giving him a rich affinity and understanding of Japanese culture.
Produced by the A-Team
Together with the help of Associate Editor Aaron Jamieson – internationally published photographer,
writer, and adventurer – we’ll continue to uncover and tell the most interesting local stories.
Our new Art Director Jacinta Sonja is a magazine editor and book publisher from Singapore, who brings
invaluable experience and a sophisticated touch to the Powderlife suite of publications.
Independence and Transparency
Powderlife remains the independent community magazine on Niseko’s
streets. We don’t fill our pages with blanket advertising for our other
businesses, and the articles in the magazine aren’t about our other
businesses.
Out of this year’s 150 or so pages, we will use one page for an ad to
publicise our website accommodation booking portal, Powderlife.com.
Otherwise, it’s all for the community with zero editorial promoting
Powderlife.com or any other business we are invested in.
We offer all other advertising positions in the magazine, including the
premium spots – back cover, inside front cover, inside back cover,
and first 30 pages – to all other Niseko businesses, not our own.
That’s the power of Powderlife to fairly promote the whole community
to visitors.
Powderlife Editor Kristian Lund is a university qualified journalist,
and ensures journalistic integrity in all editorial content. Consumers
and advertisers can be confident they’re reading fair and balanced
reportage on Niseko, and are being exposed to a fair and open
representation of businesses advertising.

No longer Powderlife’s little brother, our production team has invested an
enormous amount of time and research to deliver an equally premium publication
for our follow-up edition of Summerlife.
Capitalising on the opportunity to promote the “off-season” while the world is here
in winter, Summerlife is an innovative vehicle to vividly illustrate what Niseko offers
after winter. There’s no doubt Summerlife increases awareness of Niseko’s year-
round offerings and plays a key role in visitor’s decisions to come in the future.
Summerlife Second Edition
Local photographers encapsulate the essence of the four-seasons Niseko experience.

This year Powderlife will include a special 32-page real estate-focussed feature
section, which will be inset inside the magazine on different stock to make it stand
alone from the regular content.
Recognising the national and global significance of Niseko’s property market,
we’ve added this section so readers can take in the essence of Niseko with a
“more-content / less-advertising-heavy” publication, alongside an authoritative
round-up of the real estate market.
It will include unbiased editorial on the real estate landscape, as well as design
and lifestyle pieces, alongside feature articles to promote advertisers’ projects.

We’ll work with business to tell your real estate or development story.
This could come in the form of:
• a two or four page feature article about a past, present or future project
• an opinion piece from you about the Niseko market and future
• a technical article about building or buying in Niseko based on your expertise
• a company profile or portfolio
• a Q&A article with your founder, president or architect
Our creative ears are open to any other format that you think will best convey your story to the world. Let us know the story you want to tell and we’ll
get it out there. We’ll work with you to help write and design the page/s.
The cost per page for this targeted, integrated marketing opportunity will be the same as the cost of regular advertisements.

“Print seems to be especially effective with luxury buyers. A 2013 study showed magazines ranked second among all ad channels for reach and
effectiveness with household incomes of $250K and up. Add to that its long shelf life, pass-along circulation and high credibility, and you can see
why we believe carefully selected print media can be good value for niche brands.” Read more at MediaLife.com
“Magazines that consistently deliver high-quality, reliable content have been proven to develop credibility with their readers. In the case of print
publications, readers take the credibility generated by the quality of content and apply it to the advertisements, making them more likely to purchase
a product or service.” Read more at Guy Consterdine Associates - How Magazine Advertising Works
PS WHY PRINT ADVERTISING?
“Good print advertising definitely has a significant role in achieving advertising objectives. One study showed print media left more significant
imprints in brains and caused more emotional processing – important for branding and ad recall.” Read more at DMN3 Marketing
We look forward to helping you tell the world about your business!
