Media AS Thriller Poster Analysis

The Bourne Identity promotional poster shows that the film is of a hybrid genre as it shows action adventure and romance aspects in the images contained on the poster, these images show a fight presumably between the main character and one of the opposition and the main character embracing a woman. The actor, Matt Damon playing Jason Bourne, is well known specifically in this genre and this may encourage an audience who are familiar with and enjoy his work. He is very masculine as he looks very broad and strong, his size exaggerated by the dark bomber jacket he has on, he is also wearing all dark clothes connoting mystery and a short hair cut also showing his masculinity. He takes up most of the poster so the viewer can already tell that he will be the main focus throughout the movie and seems focussed on something that is not within the shot as his stance shows motion as though he is running away from or toward something showing that he is active and there is quite a bit of action and pursuit in this movie. He is also holding a gun, a weapon that connotes violence, fear and action, Jason is clutching it beside him showing that he is in action that is possibly dangerous but he has no use for it yet, he is wary. The title is enclosed in the sight of a gun showing that Jason is being targeted, the viewer cannot see who is targeting him or why he is being targeted making them curious and wanting to watch more to find out. The main colour shown on this poster is blue which represents masculinity, it is quite a cold colour perhaps symbolising the harsh bitter events that take place throughout the movie, and it also contrasts the orange on the right which implies adventure.
