I am pleased to share with you the 2016 Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Overview. In this booklet, you will find updated statistics and information about MDRT’s membership and programs.

Last year, MDRT had more than 43,000 financial professionals join the organization. We also experienced record attendance at the 2015 Annual Meeting, with more than 8,000 members traveling to New Orleans for three days of Main Platform presentations, educational Focus Sessions and networking. The MDRT Experience and Global Conference, which took place this January in Hong Kong, provided more than 8,000 attendees with the opportunity to experience the benefits of MDRT membership.

A vibrant and growing membership and record attendance at meetings is a testament to the value of belonging to MDRT — The Premier Association of Financial Professionals®. Throughout our 89-year history, MDRT has been committed to delivering access to innovative ideas and generating inspired growth for our members.

In addition, the MDRT Foundation continues to improve lives — whether it’s repairing homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, preparing meals for people in need in Hong Kong, or helping to bring clean drinking water to people throughout the world. The time and talent that MDRT members contribute to help make the world a better place is admirable, and in this booklet you will find an update about the MDRT Foundation and the various ways members can get involved.

Executive Committee

CAROLINE A. BANKS, FPFS, of London’s West End, is the MDRT Immediate Past President and a 27- year MDRT member with 22 Top of the Table honors. She is managing director of Caroline Banks and Associates, one of the first firms in the U.K. to be recognized with the prestigious Chartered Financial Planning designation. Banks is active in the New Model Adviser movement in the U.K., and her firm was awarded inclusion in Citywire’s Top 100 Advisers in 2013 and 2014, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the U.K. financial advice community. Banks is an active volunteer for the MDRT Foundation, achieving Diamond Knight status, and was presented with the Quality of Life Award for her work in assisting the PSP Association in battling progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).

BRIAN D. HECKERT, CLU, ChFC, of Nashville, Illinois, is the President of the MDRT Executive Committee. He is a 28-year MDRT member with seven Court of the Table and nine Top of the Table honors. He is a Legion of Honor Excalibur Knight of the MDRT Foundation and a member of its Inner Circle Society. His Round Table volunteerism includes speaking at the MDRT Annual Meeting and MDRT Experience and Global Conference, as well as service on multiple MDRT committees and task forces. He served on the MDRT Foundation Board of Trustees for three years and was Divisional Vice President three times. Heckert is the founder and managing member of Financial Solutions Midwest LLC, a financial planning firm focused on creative retirement plan design and income distribution planning.

MDRT is governed and managed by a five-member Executive Committee duly elected each year by the membership. The 2016 MDRT Executive Committee includes:

MARK J. HANNA, CLU, ChFC, of Concord, California, is the First Vice President of MDRT. He is a 28-year MDRT member with three Court of the Table and 17 Top of the Table honors, serving in 2007 as Chair of Top of the Table. He is also a Royal Order Excalibur Knight of the MDRT Foundation and a member of its Inner Circle Society. Hanna is Chairman of Hanna Global Solutions, an employee benefits advisory and administration firm providing global human resource management solutions and CEO of Hanna Insurance and Financial Solutions, Inc., a firm specializing in executive compensation and legacy planning. His Round Table service is extensive, with service on multiple committees and task forces. He has served on many local, state and national boards of directors, including as president of both the Golden Gate and East Bay Chapters of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, president of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) – San Francisco, and as a member of the National Board of Directors of The Society of Financial Service Professionals.

JAMES DOUGLAS PITTMAN, CLU, CFP, of Portland, Oregon, is the Second Vice President of the MDRT Executive Committee. He is a 42-year MDRT member with 16 Court of the Table and four Top of the Table qualifications. He is also a Diamond Knight of the MDRT Foundation and has served on its Board of Trustees. Pittman is founder and president of Insurance Consulting Services Inc., an affiliate firm of M Benefit Solutions. In 2009, he was honored with the prestigious Bud Horn award from the Oregon Association of Insurance and Financial Planners. He is the past president of the Estate Planning Council of Portland and the Portland Chapter of CLU and ChFC.

ROSS VANDERWOLF, CFP, of Fortitude Valley, Queensland, Australia, is the Secretary of the MDRT Executive Committee. He is a 29-year MDRT member with nine Court of the Table and six Top of the Table qualifications and a Platinum Knight of the MDRT Foundation. Vanderwolf, a 34-year industry veteran, is managing director of Rothgard Financial Partners, a full-service financial planning practice. Vanderwolf served on the Finance Committee and MDRT Foundation Board of Trustees. He is a three-time nominee for the Association of Financial Advisers’ Adviser of the Year. In addition, he was awarded AXA Financial Advice Network’s State Adviser of the Year in 2002 and 2007, and National Adviser of the Year in 2007.

MembershipQualifications

To qualify for MDRT, prospective members must adhere to the highest ethical standards and meet specific production requirements, which are increased annually. Members and prospective members must submit an application each year. Additionally, each member must belong to at least one recognized financial/insurance association, provided one exists in their country.

Qualifications for 2016 membership, based on 2015 production, are at right. Court of the Table and Top of the Table serve as additional incentives for members to increase their levels of production, leading to additional recognition and access to exclusive benefits.

QUALIFYINGAn individual who is a first-time applicant becomes a Qualifying (Q) member when his or her application and certifying letters are approved. Until the 10th year of membership is attained, the member will be a Qualifying member.

QUALIFYING and LIFE One becomes a Qualifying and Life (QL) member when approved for the 10th year of membership. Qualifying and Life status is maintained in future years by submitting certified production with the membership application.

LIFEOnce Qualifying and Life membership has been attained, a member may choose to apply as a Life (L) member by not including certified production with the membership application. Life members must annually submit an application and pay dues.

The MDRT Annual MeetingThe MDRT Annual Meeting is a one-of-a-kind event known for its rousing Main Platform, educational Focus Sessions, and entertaining special sessions and social events. In addition, MDRT members share their inspiring stories — reminding attendees of how important their work is. Perhaps most importantly, members can network with other top financial services professionals from around the world, building friendships and business relationships that last a lifetime. Top of the Table Annual MeetingThe Top of the Table Annual Meeting provides an opportunity for the world’s leading financial producers to exchange advanced sales ideas and network. In 2016, the meeting will take place September 21–24 in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

MDRT Experience and Global ConferenceThis event, modeled after MDRT’s Annual Meeting, delivers cutting-edge sales techniques and ideas, technical information and motivational concepts to both MDRT members and nonmembers. Past Experience meetings have taken place in Thailand, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Singapore. In 2016, the MDRT Experience & Global Conference took place in Hong Kong January 28–30, with more than 8,000 MDRT members and nonmembers attending.

Code of EthicsMDRT members should be ever mindful that complete compliance with and observance of the MDRT Code of Ethics shall serve to promote the highest quality standards of membership. These standards will be beneficial to the public and to the insurance and financial services profession.

Therefore, members shall:

5 Maintain personal conduct that will reflect favorably on the insurance and financial services profession and MDRT.

6 Determine that any replacement of an insurance or financial product must be beneficial for the client.

7 Abide by and conform to all provisions of the laws and regulations in the jurisdictions in which they do business.

GLOBAL CHARITABLE REACHWorldwide grants and Quality of Life grants require a grant application submitted by the charity and the MDRT member endorsing it. These grants are reviewed annually (September 1 deadline) by a committee of MDRT members.

Additional grant programs are defined by the Foundation policy and the Board of Trustees. These programs include grants to honor volunteer leaders from MDRT and the MDRT Foundation, charity partnerships in conjunction with MDRT meetings, disaster relief funding, and community charities.

VOLUNTEER SERVICE PROJECTSThe MDRT Foundation develops meaningful volunteer service projects and brings MDRT members together to make a difference in underserved communities. By partnering with local charitable community organizations, volunteers get to see firsthand the impact of their investment of time and effort.

MDRT members volunteered to prepare and serve nutritious meals for seniors in Hong Kong in partnership with Food Angel.

In 2015, MDRT members helped build two homes for low-income families in Cincinnati, Ohio, and completed home renovations for families affected by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana.

GIVING BACK LOCALLY AND GLOBALLYIn fiscal year 2015, the MDRT Foundation awarded 218 grants totaling USD 1,262,117 to fund a diverse range of charities worldwide. As the 2015 Annual Meeting charity partner, USD 164,084.87 was raised for charity: water to build water projects for people in impoverished communities in Ethiopia and Nepal.
