Greetings from District Governor Sally

October 2015—Achieving Our Dreams Together

Both Stan and I have had a wonderful time again, visiting energetic Clubs, with enthusiastic members who are achieving amazing goals for the year, A camping weekend over the October long weekend with my Family, reener-gised me for the month and it has certainly been a busy time, A trip to Seymour, in Victoria, to attend the 201V5 Convention, which was a lot of fun, with the Theme of “We are the Custodians of Tomorrow’, and an ANZAC

theme where “Coo-ee” featured, and with great Guest

Speakers, and a Green theme for the Dinner dance, it was a very enjoyable stay with DG Ann Elderidge who did a fantastic job with her Committee.

On our return to Nowra, it was a furious time, finalizing details for the 201N2 Convention to be held in Wollon-gong, but with the hard working Committee, I attended the final Meeting and was proud & ready to have a won-derful time together with all the Lions Members from around the District.

But before I talk any more about Conventions I need to congratulate the Club Presidents and their teams in the many Clubs around the District we have visited, I thank Bundanoon President Elizabeth for a friendly Club visit where we not only had the opportunity to meet with other Community minded Members, from other organisations, but we could see the Community Spirit which flowed, and the pride they all have in Bundanoon. A tremendous memory to treasure, thank you Elizabeth you are doing a phenomenal job in leading a small Club going places. Club Visits with

2nd VDG Chris

Suddenly, a quarter of the Lions year has raced past, and what a busy quarter it has been. DG Sally has allowed me the privilege of representing her to ten clubs across the District.

With time out for the ANZI Pacific Forum in New Zealand, where we stole a week of holi-days, I have visited seven of the clubs I have been assigned, on four occasions Mary was able to accompany me.

I thank all the clubs visited for their very kind welcomes and generous hospitality towards me and Mary when she was able to be with me, we look forward to visiting the other clubs in my visit program although these visits are at a much more leisurely pace with the last planned for February.

From my own perspective, I have greatly enjoyed the opportunity to visit other clubs, I have been in awe of the great projects Lions are undertaking in their communities and in support of the wider world , I have continued my learning about Lions by seeing the diverse ways in which clubs do Lions from the quite formal to the very relaxed, it is a measure of the esteem that Lions are held in their com-munities that shire and town councils have offered civic receptions for the DG represen-tative to express their appreciation for their local Lions clubs.

It has been an honour to be asked to induct four new Lions and to recognise Lions by presenting Lions awards at four clubs.

Thank you to the Lions of N2 for the honour you have bestowed on me by electing me to the post of 2nd VDG and thanks to DG Sally for allowing me to represent her through club visits.

Chris Howard 2nd VDG.

LEO & YOUTH OUTREACH

NEWS

Hello again to all the Leos, Leo Advisers, Lions and everyone else that is interested in the great Leo movement., it was great to see all of our friends at the District Convention where we had our Leo Forum and Leo of the Year Quest on the Saturday and this year we were fortunate in having the National Leo of the Year, Katarina Blekic attending with the National Leo Chairperson, Martin Peebles, I was really happy to see Leos from four clubs at the convention so that they could meet and hear from these two visitors.

Three Leos, Alicia Jeffrey (Ambervale High School), Laila Bradshaw and Taya Evans (Monaro High School), competed in the Leo of the Year District Quest which included a five minute prepared speech on a topic of their own choosing, and an interview with the Judges, about their community service, leadership and Leo Club involvement. A big thank you to the three judges, Lion Marty Peebles, PDG Lorraine Mairinger and Janet Green, who gave up so much time to do the judging, I really appreciated it.

Alicia spoke very eloquently about the way that the Leo/Lion movement had affected her life, Taya drew upon the recent tragedy in her home town of Nimmitabel to highlight the need for awareness and treatment of mental health issues in rural and regional areas, Laila gave an impassioned about gender diversity, prompting the audience to consider the ramifications of an issue which was largely unfamiliar to them, Laila's clear and concise speech and articulate delivery saw her awarded the prize for best public speaker, Taya's leadership credentials and community involvement along with her presentation manner in the interview won her the overall award, as District 201N2's Leo of the year Taya will compete in the state Leo of the Year final in early 2016, the convention emphasized districts' continuing commitment to youth projects.

I am still working on the District Youth/Leo Camp and will send out the information as soon as I have it organized, this is sponsored by the District and was very popular two years ago when we ran it.

If anyone would like more information on any of the above activities or with anything to do with the Leo movement please feel free to contact me on [email protected] Lion Jenny Cee Leo & Youth Outreach Chairperson
