SAAB ADS-B SOLUTION

The Saab ADS-B solution consists of ADS-B ground stations, optional ADS-B central server and local/remote control & monitoring system

Saab’s ADS-B offers certifiable ATC surveillance at a fraction of the cost of secondary surveillance radar for aircraft with ADS-B avionics

ADS-B CONFIGURATION 1 GROUND STATION ONLY

Simplest configuration, used when no consolidation of ADS-B reports or no Saab provided remote monitoring are needed One or more ADS-B GS sends ASTERIX CAT21/23 reports through a wide area network to an automation system Configuration and monitoring of the sites can be performed remotely via the web interface and SNMP

ADS-B CONFIGURATION 2 GROUND STATION + RCMS

Same as Configuration 1, with the addition of a Saab provided Remote Control & Monitoring System (RCMS) RCMS provides at a glance status of all GSs + Situational Display Data + Recording + Playback + System Logging Uses eLCMS for configuration and monitoring of each GS. This way, maintainers only need to learn one GS interface

ADS-B CONFIGURATION 3 GROUND STATION + RCMS + ADS-B SERVER

Same as Configuration 2, with the addition of the Saab ADS-B Server The ADS-B Server is used when: • Overlapping coverage exists between ground stations and the automation is

unable to de-duplicate identical reports from multiple GSs • Conversion from CAT21 to a legacy automation format is required

ADS-B SERVER – HIGH PERFORMANCE ON COTS HARDWARE

Functions • De-duplicate reports generated by different GSs for the same target • Identify different targets with the same ICAO address • Determine service volume status and report in CAT23 • Output CAT21 v1.4 or v2.1 in data-driven, throttled and periodic

modes to multiple destinations • Filter reports by ICAO address, NIC/NUC and other parameters • Automatically failover to a backup ADS-B Server

Performance • Process 2000 targets simultaneously with less than 15ms latency

Hardware • Hardware is same as Saab Sensis MLAT Systems

OVERVIEW

Objective: Provide ADS-B Surveillance system for use by Air Traffic Controllers responsible for en-route traffic flying through the Reykjavik Control Area (CTA) The CTA includes most of the airspace over Greenland above FL195, and all of the airspace over Iceland and the Faroe Islands 7 Ground station sites distributed across Greenland and the Faroe Islands Communication cost are extremely high given the limited infrastructure available in Greenland

GREENLAND SYSTEM PERFORMANCE Color indicates measured probability of update based on about 10 days of data Almost the entire area exceeds 95% Pupdate for a 10 sec update interval • Update intervals can be increased if the network has sufficient bandwidth

Max range was ~340 NM, usable range (95% Pupdate) was 250-275 NM Areas with holes had no flights during the data acquisition period
