MCS 118, 9/23/13 Slide #6
Using the first three properties calculate limits

• Factor top and bottom
• Rationalize

MCS 118, 9/23/13 Slide #7
In summary
• To calculate a limit of polynomials, just plug in
• To calculate a limit of a rational function, plug in. If
you get 0/0, try factoring.
• To calculate a limit with square roots, plug in. If that
doesn’t work, try rationalizing.
• If you still can’t find it, use a table or a graph.

Coming up:
• More practice on finding limits
• Homework due on Thursday
• Quiz on Monday next week, no class on Tuesday
