Our operating checking account (day to day bills) is at $2,076. Donations last year were approximately $6,200. The dinner cost was approximately $3,400. The alumni dinner does not make any money. It is a break-even endeavor for camaraderie. We have not awarded over $70,000 in scholarships since 1998. Even though $70,000 might sound lofty, that sum only pays two years of tuition at a medium tier private college. It is a different world out there in post- secondary education; costs are just crazy compared to my days. My parents paid $3,500 out of pocket for four years at Oberlin College. I have nephews and younger colleagues with medical-dental school debts of over $100,000. Mine was $20,000. So my plea is this, if you can, please be generous. Dinner 2014

Tentatively set for

Friday, July 4

Our Scholarship fund (Vanguard Wellington) is at $64,460. Last year’s total was $53,000. This is the first time

that the total has been over $60,000! Last year was also a first – over $50,000. We are improving!

Our operating checking account (day to day bills) is at $2,076.

Donations last year were approximately $6,200.

The dinner cost was approximately $3,400. The alumni dinner does not make any money. It is a break-even

endeavor for camaraderie.

We have not awarded over $70,000 in scholarships since 1998. Even though $70,000 might sound lofty, that

sum only pays two years of tuition at a medium tier private college. It is a different world out there in post-

secondary education; costs are just crazy compared to my days. My parents paid $3,500 out of pocket for four

years at Oberlin College. I have nephews and younger colleagues with medical-dental school debts of over

$100,000. Mine was $20,000. So my plea is this, if you can, please be generous. However, we will never turn

down any donation as every bit helps!

An alumni association is very different from a parent booster club --- the alumni association helps people other

than our own children.

Thank you for your past and future generosity!

Where are they now?

Class of 2000 Scholarship Recipient— Jenny Green Borgens

Jenny graduated from Kent State in December 2004 with a

double major in Biology and Psychology. While studying at

Kent, she worked at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure for the

Education and Conservation Department. After college, Jen-

ny completed an animal training internship at the National

Aquarium in Baltimore allowing her to work with Bottlenose

Dolphins. Jenny interviewed with SeaWorld San Antonio,

and being a former Royal Swan and a certified SCUBA div-

er, she passed the swim test. Jenny moved to San Antonio

and was an animal trainer at SeaWorld for 6 years where she

worked with Killer Whales, Pacific White-sided Dolphins,

Beluga Whales, and California Sea Lions. Jenny took educa-

tion classes and became a certified teacher in Texas. Jenny

continues to live San Antonio with her husband, Bart, a San

Antonio Police Officer, and their dog, Kooper. She is now a

teacher for Northside Independent School District. In her

free time, Jenny enjoys the outdoors, trying different Tex-

Mex restaurants, and spending time with family. She is a

cancer survivor and spends time raising awareness about

melanoma.
