COURSE OBJECTIVE & OUTCOME

16

To know the relation of aircraft weight to balance control

and performance. Provide basic knowledge of aircraft composition and its importance. Practice on load planning and it’s effect on aircraft

balance Prediction on permissible weight for a given journey. PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ON ROLES OF WEIGHT

Lecture 1INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

Airlines business is to transport people from one place to another.

They could not function without the help of many people on the air or on the ground, including those who take reservations and sell tickets, as well as those who help keep the airplanes operating on schedule and ensure the safety of flight.

Those who are involved in the operations of flight known as AIRCREW.

Page 19: MBC 3204 MASS (WEIGHT) & BALANCE CONTROL

Who Is Aircrew?

1. COCKPIT CREWS: PILOT/CAPTAINCO-PILOT/FLIGHT OFFICERSFLIGHT ENGINEERS

2. CABIN CREWS/ FLIGHT ATTENDANTS3. AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS4. GROUND CREW:

FLIGHT OPERATORS/DISPATCHER

MAINTENANCE CREWS19

FLIGHT DISPATCHER

A flight dispatcher is a person responsible for planning and monitoring the progress of an aircraft journey.

• Just like a pilot, a flight dispatcher is responsible for a safety flight.

• A dispatcher have the authority to delay, or cancel a flight at any time, and a flight can’t be released without the signature of both the pilot in command and the dispatcher20

Page 21: MBC 3204 MASS (WEIGHT) & BALANCE CONTROL

RESPONSIBLE OF AIRCRAFT FLIGHT DISPATCHER

Besides contribute to the safety of flight operations, Flight Dispatcher also contribute to the economy and efficiency of aircraft operation by improving the payload & reducing excessive fuel reserve.

Flight dispatchers have to demonstrate extensive aviation knowledge equal to that of airline transport pilot license (ATPL) holders.

WHAT HAVE YOU STUDY IN AVIATION HISTORY??

WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND FROM AIRCRAFT

MASS(WEIGHT) AND PERFORMANCE??

HOW DO THEY RELATE TO EACH OTHER??

Page 24: MBC 3204 MASS (WEIGHT) & BALANCE CONTROL

24

Page 25: MBC 3204 MASS (WEIGHT) & BALANCE CONTROL

Imagine how does an aircraft fly if:

1. Heavy weight

2. Loaded with:• Aircraft crew • Passenger• Fuel• Cargo

Page 26: MBC 3204 MASS (WEIGHT) & BALANCE CONTROL

Aircraft can fly because:

Wing Design

The performance

Wing cross-section view

Page 27: MBC 3204 MASS (WEIGHT) & BALANCE CONTROL

Design criteria:

• Air at top surface will move faster• Air at bottom surface will move slower

Reason of Design

Basic principle of physics

Faster moving air

Produce less pressure

Slower moving air

Produce more pressure

Top surface Bottom surface

This pressure difference create lift and enable the aircraft to fly !!

Page 28: MBC 3204 MASS (WEIGHT) & BALANCE CONTROL

SummaryPilot start engine

Start to take off(Start to run)

As speed increase, air move faster and faster

Lift generated and aircraft starts to flyWHY is that?

Because the design of the wing!!

Pilot control the aircraft

Happy Flying!!

PERFORMANCE

WHY YOU MUST STUDY ABOUT AIRCRAFT MASS(WEIGHT) &

PERFORMANCE & BALANCE CONTROL?

Flight Dispatcher responsible for the safe loading of airplane and must ensure that it is not overloaded.

The performance and balance control of an airplane is influenced by its weight and overloading it will cause serious problems.

Performance and Balance Control are always related to each other.

29

Page 30: MBC 3204 MASS (WEIGHT) & BALANCE CONTROL

WEIGHT & PERFORMANCE & BALANCE

Too much weight in the front of the

airplane will cause it to pitch downward

Too much weight in rear of aircraft will cause aircraft to

pitch upward
