2016 TRENDS & STATISTICS

The HEC Paris MBA Class of 2016 had a very successful recruitment year, with 92 percent of the class having accepted job offers within three months of graduation. Our high-achieving graduates, from 51 countries around the world, are fully prepared to become the global business leaders of the 21st century. Armed with a global mindset, the latest knowledge of today and access to a network of over 56,000 alumni in 132 countries, almost 50 percent of graduates secured employment outside of their home countries.

While nearly half of the graduates will work in Europe, we saw an increase in the number of students who accepted employment in North America and Southeast Asia. The majority of our students made a career transformation, with 65 percent changing sector, 67 percent changing function and 63 percent changing their location. Almost 70 percent of the class changed two of the three elements and an impressive 37 percent changed all three.

The Economist ranked the HEC Paris MBA as one of the top MBA programs in Europe for the third consecutive year and the number one program for diversity in recruitment. In addition, we are proud to remain one of the top European MBAs as ranked by Forbes, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Financial Times and Poets & Quants.

Our Career Center ensures that our students’ career goals align with the needs of the global

job market and we encourage our students to explore a variety of industries and functions. The Career Center’s recruitment board posted a wide range of more than 4,000 job offers this year, including internships, fieldwork projects and full-time positions.

We continue to see an increase in “block” hiring – companies that recruit two or more students from the program. Nearly 40 percent of MBA students received and accepted offers with multinational companies – such as Amazon, A.T. Kearney, GE, Google, HSBC, McKinsey & Company, and PwC – that hired two or more of our graduates. And, on average, our 2016 alumni doubled their pre-MBA salaries.

Our location in one of Europe’s strongest economies, and our powerful network of recruiting companies and alumni allowed our students to continue to find senior-level positions in the world’s most sought-after companies. Nearly 4,000 HEC Paris alumni have gone on to become CEOs, CFOs or have founded their own companies.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal alumni and recruiters, who continue to show confidence in our talent. We are proud of our achievements and we look forward to continuing to prepare future generations of global leaders to solve the business problems of tomorrow.

HEC PARIS MBA 2016

Overall, our students moved into the Consulting, Technology and Consumer Goods sectors, and away from Government/Not-for-profit, Construction, and Energy.

Our students graduate ready to take on leadership positions and we can see this in our results, with many moving into managerial roles and “fast-tracks” to C-level positions.

RECRUITER ACTIVITY

RECRUITERACTIVITYAs was the case in 2015, the “at graduation” placement rate is directly connected to the increase in what is known as “block” hiring – recruiters who hire two or more students from the year’s graduating class. Block hiring increased for the third consecutive year. In 2016, this amounted to almost 40 percent of the total placement, an increase of 5 percent over the statistics for 2015, and more than 20 percent over the 2014 equivalent.

More than 200 companies worldwide recruited from the class for either full-time or internship positions and 66 percent of students found positions through HEC Paris connections. A full list of recruiting companies can be found on page 18.

The connection between internships and full-time positions continues to be a powerful one, with all but one of the top 15 recruiters hiring at least one intern. Almost half of the total number of companies who hired one or more participants also hired an intern. Finally, almost 30 percent of the 2016 graduating class received offers from their internships, with over 20 percent accepting these offers.

SECTOR ANALYSIS

Placement in the Industry sector was at 45 percent. As was the case in 2015, this is again being driven by the Tech sector, accounting for almost 17 percent of the total class. Amazon continues to be our top recruiter, with other significant recruiters in the sector being Google, Apple, Wipro, Microsoft and BlaBlaCar.

The combined sectors of Consumer Goods and Food/Beverages account for almost 10 percent of the class, while Energy declined from 8 percent to 2 percent in the past two years, which reflects the current challenges in the sector as a whole. Our students were recruited by a wide range of top Industry companies including Cargill, Chloé, Colgate, Coca-Cola, Kellogg, Henkel, Kimberly Clark, Kraft Heinz, L’Oréal, Michelin, Nike, Nissan, Procter & Gamble, Schneider Electric and Unilever.

Consulting has again increased in popularity as a profession with 21 percent of students choosing it in terms of sector, and 26 percent in terms of function. Base and salary packages in Consulting increased by almost 5 percent this year. Companies that recruited our talent in this sector include A.T. Kearney, Accenture, AlixPartners, Booz Allen & Hamilton, Boston Analytics, CapGemini Consulting, EY, Infosys, KPMG, McKinsey & Company, Oliver Wyman and PwC.

Placement in Finance this year is almost 18 percent, up 4 percent from 2015. The Finance sector saw an increase in base salaries by more than 15 percent since last year. Our students were recruited all over the world, at Financial companies including BNP Paribas, Citi, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, International Finance Corporation (IFC), ING, Macquarie, Santander and Zurich.

The Services sector accounted for 16 percent of the total recruitment, driven mainly by the NGO and not-for-profit sectors.
