Happy Spring! Hello everyone. I hope you are having a great spring and getting lots of riding in. Have you noticed that the leaves are coming out! In my view, we’re 3 – 4 weeks early. I sure hope we don’t pay for that in June! Coggins Day Alpine Vet tells us that Coggins Day was very successful, with 50 horses tested! A big thank you to Janilyn Kooy for doing all the organizing, and to Dr. Kim Friedenberg and Janilyn for their contribution to this important event. Annual Summer Show and Dressage Show We are thrilled to announce that Brenda Cornell has agreed to take on the job of Show Manager for the Annual Summer Show. Brenda is so experienced, having played an integral part in the delivery of the Watson Lake Show since its inception. Anyone who has shown in Watson Lake knows that her personal goals include providing a welcoming, fun, and well organized environment that allows competitors to focus on their riding. Nina Vogt will be shadowing Brenda this year, with the intent of taking on the Show Manager role for 2017. This is great news for all of us, and will provide continuity into the future. As previously mentioned, the Equine Association of Yukon has accepted a set of Rules based on the Horse Council of BC 2016 Rules. This will allow the EAY to sanction the YHRA Summer Show, and the rules will set out how classes will be conducted. Go to the website @ http:// equineyukon.weebly.com/competitions.html to see the rules. Sanctioning by EAY also means that all competitors in the Annual Summer Show will need to hold a valid membership in either EAY, or another Provincial Equine Sport Governing body, so if you plan to show, and haven’t bought your EAY membership yet, it’s not too late! It’s going to be a few weeks before the completed Prize Lists for both the Annual Summer Show and the Bronze Level Dressage Show go to print, but the class lists are complete (see attached for the Summer Show). The YHRA Board is always looking for ways to support our members. At the BOD meeting on May 2, 2016, the Board passed a motion to set the entry fees. Class fees for the Annual Summer Show have been set at $10.00 per class for YHRA members; $13.00 per class for non-YHRA members. The Test Fees for the Dressage Show have been set at $20.00 for YHRA members and $25.00 for non-YHRA members.

Happy Spring!

Hello everyone. I hope you are having a great spring and getting lots of riding in. Have you noticed that the leaves are coming out! In my view, we’re 3 – 4 weeks early. I sure hope we don’t pay for that in June!

Coggins Day

Alpine Vet tells us that Coggins Day was very successful, with 50 horses tested! A big thank you to Janilyn Kooy for doing all the organizing, and to Dr. Kim Friedenberg and Janilyn for their contribution to this important event.

Annual Summer Show and Dressage Show

We are thrilled to announce that Brenda Cornell has agreed to take on the job of Show Manager for the Annual Summer Show.

Grounds Update

A joint YHRA/YAA Committee has been struck with the goal of completing the details of a sub- lease by the end of July. Elsie Wain, Judy Linton and Angela Lehwald are representing YHRA, with Andre Fortin, Gail Reiderer and Allan Stannard representing YAA. Along with the YAA Executive Director, Jennifer Hall, a few of us met out at the location on April 27. None of the YAA folks had been out to look at the property, so it was a good chance or orient ourselves and discuss the zoning and lay-out of the parcel. The next step will be for YHRA to provide YAA with the preliminary site plan that has been developed, and see if there are options for sharing the installation of infrastructure. YAA will be having their AGM in May, but their representatives will be staying on the joint committee. The area under discussion is displayed.

Show Etiquette Clinic

This clinic will be held the evening of July 1, and all day July 2 and 3 at the Riding Arena, delivered by Carolyn Dobbs from 100 Mile House. Carolyn has a lengthy resume as a judge coach and competitor. If you can’t make it for the whole weekend, parents and competitors alike are encouraged to take advantage of the Friday night session. This is when Carolyn will be going over the prize list and explaining what is being judged in the various classes, and details like whether or not a pattern will be called for, and when and where the pattern will be posted. On Saturday and Sunday, Carolyn will be taking each class through the show process, explaining to students how to show the class, and to participants and spectators what the judge is looking for how competitors can prepare and show the class. For more information, or to register for the clinic, please contact Angela Lehwald [email protected] or call her at 334-1522.
