MEET CANDIDATES (p7-9)

COUNTY COMMISSIONER, District 1 (4 yr)

Susan Bolton, Incumbent I am Susan Bolton and have had the priveledge to serve as Gooding County Commissioner for about 1½ years. I have loved being a commissioner because it gives me the oppor-tunity to keep our county mov-ing in a positive direction. I have lived in Gooding for my

entire life and I love living here. I was raised with a strong volunteer ethic. I graduated from Gooding High School as the last class to gradu-ate from the “old” sch ool on Main Street. My Dad was on the school board when our current high school was built. I always love seeing his name on the plaque hanging in the hallway!! I have been active in the Gooding Rotary Club; Gooding, Hagerman and Wendell Chambers, and I was the chairman of the Relay for Life held in Gooding for several years. I worked in the title industry for 35 years helping Gooding County residents buy, sell and research proper-ties in Gooding County. This work gave me a great deal of experience with the way the county works and has been extremely helpful with decisions that commissioners need to make. I enjoy attending and participating in the many Magic Valley committees that I serve on as Gooding County Commissioner. Please vote to re-elect Susan Bolton, Gooding County Commissioner, so that I can continue to serve Gooding County residents.

Jerry Pierce, Candidate

COUNTY COMMISSIONER, District 2 (2 yr)

Mark Bolduc, Incumbent I am Mark Bolduc and I want to continue being your Good-ing County Commissioner. I have lived in Gooding County for the past 50 years and have been a self-employed busi-ness owner for the past 36 years. I am a get it done type

of person and thrive on challenges.

I am a promoter of business, in fact I have started multiple businesses that we have built up and sold to others that dream of being self-employed. Some of which were Frogs Lily Pad Restaurant in Hagerman, now known as the Snake River Grill, 1000 Springs Boat Tours, Assist Auto Brokerage, and I still have interests in 1000 Springs Realty & Hagerman Valley Inn.

Since I have been a Gooding County Commis-sioner we have accomplished a lot of great things.

Created a web page that gives the public ac-cess to all county business.

The Solid Waste Dist. Has added a gas to en-ergy plant which in turn keeps our fees from increasing by selling power to Idaho Power Co.

Purchased an additional 100 acres at the Wendell transfer station for future use.

Our EMS service has been upgraded to a para-medic level and we are in construction of a new facility partially paid for with a block grant.

I believe for small towns to survive the citizens have to support the local businesses, local charities, schools and be involved in your com-munity and by doing this we can continue to live and prosper in this great place we call home.

COUNTY PROSECUTING ATTORNEY

Matt Pember, Incumbent In these days of Corona outbreaks and stay-at-home orders it seems strange to be concerned about an election. This pandemic has brought about many new and inter-esting changes and chal-

lenges to the job of Prosecutor. I am very proud to serve the people of Gooding County who are working so hard during these trying times to bring them to an end. For the past 3 ½ years, it has been my great privilege to serve the people of Gooding County. You’ve truly made Jodi and me feel like this is our forever home. I have worked harder as your prosecutor than proba-bly any other job I’ve ever had and I promise to keep working just as hard for you if re-elected. It’s my goal to see a continuation of the work I’ve begun to bring a much-needed Youth Cen-ter to the County, to continue to work with the schools and cities, and to continue to work hard to fight crime and defend the County. I truly feel that my position as a public servant is an oppor-tunity to keep making Gooding a better and better place to live. So, thank you for your support when in the last election. It is my hope that my hard work and dedication has earned your vote again. As we work through these times, I encourage you to vote from the comfort of your homes. Request forms for absentee ballots are available p12-13. Remember Pember. Thank you and God bless.

Trevor Misseldine, Candidate My name is Trevor Misseldine, and I am running for Gooding County Prosecutor. I live, with my family, in Gooding and my extended family has owned land here for nearly 7 decades. Be-sides farming, my grandfather, Ed Larson, worked for the Na-tional Fish Hatchery in Hager-

man. My parents are graduates of Hagerman High School. After high school, my father joined the Army. During the summers, my mom would bring us back home. My fondest memo-ries as a child were spent here on grandpa’s farm. Why am I running for County Prosecu-tor? First, anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm, but rough seas require real experi-ence. Handling every type of issue the Prosecu-tor’s office deals with has made me a proven prosecutor. I have more trial experience, with a winning record. I have more experience super-vising and training other attorneys. That experi-ence will make our community a safer place.

Second, our Sheriff’s Office has a tough job and they deserve our help and support. A prosecu-tor gives that support by respecting and defend-ing their work. When that relationship is devel-oped, our law enforcement will find success.

Third, Gooding County taxpayers should get the most benefit of their tax dollars. In my present position, I have overhauled office systems to save time and tax dollars. Additionally, our current county prosecutor works not only for Gooding County, but he is the Camas Prosecutor too. I will give you what you are paying for by only working in Gooding County.

IDAHO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Muffy Davis, Democrat Incumbant (seat A) It has been a privilege to repre-sent District 26 over thepast two years in the Idaho State Legislature. I have learned a ton and I’m excited to continue working to improve opportuni-ties, resources and quality of life for all the people of Idaho, but

especially the people of Blaine, Camas, Lincoln and Gooding Counties, which make up our dis-trict. Our team works very well together both during the legislative session and when we are home in the district. With such a large geo-graphic district, it is immensely helpful to have a team that helps each other by dividing up vari-ous responsibilities to be more efficient. Sena-tor Stennett, Representative Toone and I each have diverse strengths and experiences. Our team approach allows us to make the most of our time and better represent all the people of District 26. Know we are honored to represent you and are always available and willing to as-sist you with any question, concern or issue you might have. If we don’t have the answer, we will work to connect you with someone who does. I hope you are all staying safe and healthy in these uncertain times. As we work from home, our focus is on getting our economy back run-ning wholly and safely. Please don’t forget the May 19 primary is by mail only. Request your ballot at: www.idahovotes.gov!

Sally Toone, Democrat Incumbant (B) An Idaho resident my entire life, I have lived in Gooding for 50 years. I spent mycareer as an educator and worked throughout District 26. I am familiar with the similarities and differences between Blaine, Camas, Gooding and

Lincoln Counties. My husband and I own and operate our family farm and cattle ranch in

Gooding and Camas counties along with our sons, who are raising their children here and working in the family agricultural business. While representing our district, I have worked to be the voice for working families. I am a champion for our schools and educators and have worked on legislation to improve rural communities’ access to education, as well as making sure our students can meet the chal-lenges of this century. I was able to get an ambulance access bill passed to allow our rural districts the flexibility they need to serve many Idaho communities. I have voiced concerns about safety for workers and products in our state and I’m a founding member of the Legis-lative Farm, Ranch and Timber caucus. I advo-cate for the economic, safety and land needs and issues facing many Idaho communities. I welcome the challenges we face in crafting creative, new solutions to the issues of the 21

st

century. Bill Thorpe, Republican Candidate (B)

Hello my name is Bill Thorpe and I am running for the Idaho State Legislative District 26 Position B.

Who am I? I was born in Chicago and have lived throughout the United States including Illinois, New Jersey,

California and now Idaho. I spent my career as a financial person, controller, VP of Finance and Chief Financial Officer at public and family owned companies. I then retired and moved to Idaho. Since then, I have been involved with Hagerman Bike and Walk and the Hagerman Chamber of Commerce. My wife and I have also begun buying, rehabbing and selling houses in the Magic Valley. I grew up in a Re-publican household and am a life-long Republi-can. I am a strong believer in the US Constitu-tion and the Bill of Rights.

Why am I running? I believe that the resi-dents of the 26

th district (Blaine, Camas, Lin-

coln and Gooding counties) must have a Re-publican representative. I realized we have no voice in the legislature since we are now domi-nated by Blaine county. I do not want Idaho to shift from a red state to a blue state. Limita-tions on free speech, emphasis on illegal immi-grant’s rights, vote by mail without ID checks are all policies that the current representative is in favor of and I am opposed to.

We have a unique way of life in Idaho and I want to keep it that way. I look forward to your support. Email: [email protected]

IDAHO SENATE

Michelle Stennett, Democrat Incumbant Michelle represents District 26 in the Idaho State Senate which encompasses Blaine, Camas, Gooding and Lincoln Counties. She is the Minority Leader in the Idaho Senate and serves on the State Affairs and Resources & Environment com-mittees. She is a member of the Workforce Development

Counciland has been appointed to several in-terim committees focusing on natural re-sources, fisheries, water issues, public lands access, broadband, and ethics in poli-tics.Michelle has a B.A. in International Rela-tions – Environmental Studies, a B.A. in Latin languages, a minor in Business, and a Legisla-tive Energy Horizon Institute certificate from the University of Idaho.

Eric Parker, Republican Candidate My name is Eric Parker and I'm running For Idaho Senate District 26. That's Gooding, Lin-coln, Camas, Blaine Counties. I'm an electrician by trade but, more importantly, I am a hus-band, a father and a very proud working class Idahoan.

Some of you may already know me from the not for profit organization I founded, The Real 3%ers Idaho, a State wide organization that represents over 2 thousand Idahoans. Our moto is "neighbors helping neighbors". Our volunteers have been referenced by numerous Representatives as Constitutional Consultants. I voluntarily spend time going over proposed legislation looking for Constitutionality, weak wording and anything that would or could lead to a violation of the Idaho or US Constitutions. To me, this is how we defend Idaho, especially from out of State interests and their money.

As a working class Idahoan with a family and Bills, I have felt the crunch most Idahoans in district 26 have felt and as your voice in the Senate I will make sure the focus is on redevel-oping our economy and learning from our mis-takes. When I was asked to run it was due to lack of conservative representation in our dis-trict and I do believe we can get more done for our district with representation in the majority party. In closing, there is a lot of information out there about me. Some true, some not so much.

If you have any questions about where I stand please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from all of you. Thank you for your time.

April has passed, and most of us have been staying inside. But, luckily, isolating our-selves from others and keeping social dis-tance has been successful as there are no cases of Coronavirus currently in Hagerman. This can be credited to the businesses react-ing quickly, and following the guidelines set out by the local, state and federal decision makers. This is a great credit to the commu-nity of citizens of Hagerman isolating them-selves, and using proper sanitizing methods when out in public. We are all grateful for the sacrifices you have made and the care you have taken to make sure our community stays safe during this difficult time. Together we will continue to make a difference.

We are hoping that the isolation orders will be lifted soon, but even if the cities are able to gradually reopen, we will need to con-tinue practicing social distancing and sanitiz-ing efforts. We don’t know when the grad-ual reopening of businesses will be able to begin. We don’t know how long the Coro-navirus will affect our communities, but it is important not to forget the importance of staying well as the time goes on. We will continue to keep you informed as we re-ceive information.

In the meantime, please keep supporting our small businesses in any way you can. Many of us have been ordering take out and making a point of supporting our restaurants and businesses as we can. But, they still need additional help. Some of us have re-ceived our stimulus check, and have money that is intended to support our local econ-omy. Please, do all you can to support our local businesses.

One suggestion, if you have the financial ability to help, is to assist local businesses with their utility services. This would be a huge help for our local businesses. Every little bit helps. If this is help you would like to provide, please call City Hall and we can arrange to have any amount paid toward the business’s city services. Also, please remem-ber that April 24

th is the beginning of the

Gem State Initiative. Senator Jim Risch and the Idaho Department of Commerce have teamed up to create this initiative as a state-

wide campaign to raise awareness of the importance of our local businesses. The ini-tiative asks that on Friday we make a state-wide effort to participate by buying gift cards, purchasing meals, and asking our local businesses how we can help. Please reach out and ask what our businesses have to offer.

May 19 is election day. Your vote matters. Elections are continuing through absentee voting online and through the mail. Ballots are available through www.idahovotes.gov and online voter registration has been sim-plified and is available through this site as well. It is important that we get informed on the candidates up for election. Do the re-search and be informed. These elections will affect us directly for years to come. Please don’t let this health crises take away your voter’s voice.

It is finally springtime, and people in the community are outside doing home im-provement projects. Please, remember to check the city code to make sure that you are in compliance with city rules regarding fences, outbuildings and any other construc-tion. Call before you start, and remember that utility lines could be underground so it is important to call the dig line phone num-ber to verify you are safe. If you have any questions about city ordinances and building codes please don’t hesitate to reach out to the city, and to Planning and Zoning for clari-fication. It is better to know the rules before you begin.

Also, due to the Coronavirus, Clean Up Day has been postponed. We will keep you up-dated on when we are able to reschedule. In the meantime, please remember to help each other as much as possible.

I just want to thank you all again for all that you are doing to help this community stay safe and well during these difficult times. We are making a difference.

Do whatever you need to do to ensure your safety, if it makes you feel good do so by all means.

No one wishes things to be back to normal more that we at the District, the added pre-cautions, shortage of staff, and scrounging for PPE has be a challenge. The community has pulled together to support the schools and business through this weird event. Please con-tinue to help your neibors, community busi-ness, and local agencies the best you can.

The District will be on the ballot May 19 asking for your continued support of our EMS and Fire services, all that reside in the Hagerman Fire Protection District are eligible to vote, both city and county residents. The entire election will be a mail in ballot, please get your
