More stories inside:
We plan to gradually “reopen” University Hills in phases. At first the only gathering will be the Sunday
morning worship service with no children’s activities or childcare. We intend to continue providing a
livestream of the worship service throughout the reopening phases.
We are planning to have an outdoor worship gathering in the University Hills parking lot on Sunday, May17, at 9:30am. We will share more details next week about what this will look like and the “social distancing"
guidelines to make every effort in caring for one another’s safety.
We are preparing to have our first indoor Sunday morning worship service on May 31 (back at the normal
10:30am time). We will be sharing more details about this as we get closer.
Update on Gathering Together Again
Dear Church Family,
I am so thankful for how the Lord is holding us together while being separated and how He is working through
each of us for His glory in the world! I am praying our unity will continue to be strengthened and the lost will
be reached during these days!
I want to share an update with you as the Ministry Development Team (MDT) has been meeting recently to
discuss the important topic of when and how to gather again in a way that cares for your safety.
Here are a few things we are currently considering:
We are family. That means we love you and want the best for you. We encourage you to make the best
decision for you and your family based on the conviction the Lord has given you and your current health
situation. We understand that you may not be able to join us during the beginning phases of the reopening
and we want to help you stay connected if you need to stay home.
We make these plans as we say, “We do not know what tomorrow will bring… so if the Lord wills, we will live
and do this or that.” Thank you for your prayers and patience as we continue to seek the Lord in prayer on this,
meet regularly with MDT, keep an eye on news updates, and stay connected with other local church leaders.
We will keep you updated throughout the process.
We are trusting the Lord to help us and to glorify Himself as we take each step together with our eyes fixed on
Jesus.
Blessings,
Bo

We have a wonderful opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus to some local
families during this COVID-19 crisis. We are looking for church families who are
willing to purchase some non-perishable items for the local families. (We will provide
the list.) Our goal is to match local families with church families of similar size. For
example, if there are 2 people in your family, we would try to match you with a family
of 2-3 people. This would be anonymous to both families and will be a one-time
commitment. For more information or to sign up to help, please contact Sandy Page
at 704-661-6248, email [email protected], or go to universityhills.org/eofo.
To the Church Family: THANK YOU for your prayers, cards and phone calls in mybehalf during my hip surgery and recovery. Prayers are heavenly sent and felt.
Thank you one and all.

HISTORY OF MOTHER'S DAY
The American holiday we know as Mother's Day was first establishedin 1908, when Anna Marie Jarvis held a memorial for her mother atSt. Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. Today that church holds the International Mother's Day Shrine.
Miss Jarvis (May 12, 1864-November 24, 1948) began her campaignto make Mother's Day a recognized holiday in the United States in 1905,the year her mother, Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis, died. Mrs. Ann Reeves Jarvis had been a peace activist during the American Civil War,caring for wounded soldiers on both sides of the conflict, and created Mother's DayWork Clubs to address public health issues. Anna, the daughter, hoped to honor hermother by continuing the work she started and to set aside a day to honor allmothers. Her belief was that mothers were “the person who has done more for youthan anyone in the world.”
The US Congress rejected a 1908 proposal to make Mother's Day an official holiday. However, owing to the efforts of Miss Jarvis, by 1911 all US states observed theholiday, with some of them officially recognizing Mother's Day as a local holiday. The first to do so was Miss Jarvis's native state of West Virginia in 1910.President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation in 1914 designatingMother's Day, observed on the second Sunday of May, a national holiday to honorour mothers.

A NOTE FROM YOUR CHURCH HISTORIANThis year on September 27th we will celebrate the 95th anniversary of the establishment of our church.
The Glenwood Baptist Sunday School was organized in a meeting held on September 27, 1925 in westMecklenburg County, which was later taken into the city of Charlotte. In marking this anniversary, I plan to
write some histories and biographies of people or events that have played an important part in ourfellowship's past. If you have a particular person or event you think should be highlighted, please let me know. Also beginning this year, couples in our church who reach the 50th anniversary mark will be featured and then
every 55th, 60th, 65th, 70th anniversary will be recognized. Also members who reach their 90th birthday andbeyond will be highlighted. All homebound members will be recognized at their birthday so their church
family may remember them with a note or card of love and encouragement. I just wanted to explain my policyabout these articles for our newsletter in hopes that you will contact me if you have something you
would like to contribute.MEMORIAL DAY is coming and we will remember those 5 young men in our membership who paid the
ultimate price. But I also want to form a list of those of your family members that gave their life in service ofour country for this newsletter. Please contact me with the information of your loved one that should be
included on the Memorial Day list. Call or text Avery Phillips at 704-773-2908.

This year, as we celebrate Mother’s Day on May 10, 2020, we are unable to betogether in our worship service due to the restrictions related to the CoronaVirus Pandemic. The floral arrangement you will see in the Fellowship Hall
during Sunday's live streamed service will be in loving honor and memory of allof the mothers of the UHBC Family. In honoring all of our mothers, we will
recognize the oldest mother of out fellowship, Peggy Jean Pope Harris, age 95,who is pictured here with her three children, Grant, Kay and Eric,
and the newest mother in our church family, Anna Grace Still Bridgeman, pictured here with her daughter, Ruth Marie, born this year on February 1st.
We thank God for the blessing of our Christian mothers.
