A Summer Journey with us at the Park   

Beginning June 7, we will offer one Adult Sunday School class at 9am in Bryans Room. We’ll use FaithLink ready‐to‐use lessons, connecting faith to events and issues in the culture & in the church.  

CHILDCARE  Quality care for newborns to three years or potty trained provided by Barbara P‐Walker and a volunteer. Located in the Main Level of the Christian Ed Wing. Time: 10am. Nursery volunteer: May 31, Chris Wells; June 7, Jamie Sayers 

 CHILDREN’S CHURCH  Children ages 3.5 through 3rd grade are invited to Children’s Church, which is provided by Christina Pacheco, Mary Worth, and Hannah Westra.   Children gather in the lower level Noakes Hall, which is beneath our older Wasser chapel. Children will leave the Sanctuary for Children’s Church following the Children’s Message at the 10am service. 

Note that we have moved to 10am worship times for the summer! Our two services will be our Combined service and Peniel service. We can enjoy reception time together after the services in the Courtyard portico beginning on June 7, weather permitting). 

We will NOT have an 8:30am Informal Service until    Kick‐Off Sunday on September 13. 

We have combined the Informal with the Traditional.   This “Combined” Service is at 10am in the Sanctuary. 

The Peniel Service is at 10am, still worshiping in  Wasser   Chapel. (Occasionally Peniel will not meet.) 

Several noteworthy Sundays:  June 21, there will NOT be a Peniel service. We will have One Unified Service at 10am in the 

Sanctuary to share in Rev. Paul Kottke’s last day with us.  July 5, will be Bluegrass Music Sunday with One Unified Service at 10am on the Iliff grounds.  September 6, Labor Day Sunday  September 13, Kick‐off Sunday, we will resume our 8:30am, 10:30am, 11am services,  

and 9:30am Sunday School classes.

This Week at UPark UMC

Our Sanctuary flowers today are given by Caroline Gilbert and Barbara Kramer in memory of their parents, Clarence and Ruth Geyer.

 CHURCH SOFTBALL! Softball begins today!  Our league is co‐ed, and anyone who is older than age 15 or is turning 15 this year can play on our teams. There will be two teams this year, and we play against other area churches. We play every Sunday during the summer at Progress Park, which is near W. Belleview and S. Broadway.  If you have questions or to express your interest in playing,

The Foundation Campus Ministry @ DU is looking for families and groups to  provide Peanut Butter and Jelly sack lunches to the homeless community at Civic Center Park on Fridays this summer. These dates are open: July 3, July 10, July 17,  August 14, August 28, and September 3.  

This is an easy and rewarding project! The responsibility is to provide 50‐70 sack lunches which typically include a PB&J sandwich, a piece of fruit, a snack, and a bottle of water. The lunches can be made at your home the day before or at church on the Friday morning.   We encourage all groups to accompany us to Civic Center Park to share the lunches. It truly is a meaningful experience. The group departs from the UPark parking lot by 11:25am and returns by 12:45pm at the latest. If you are interested in signing‐up, please contact Liza Stoltz Hanson, Director of the Foundation Campus Ministry at L.StoltzHanson@gmail.com. There is also a sign‐up sheet on  a bulletin board in the Foyer.   

Summer Book‐Read: Americanah by Nigerian Author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Carol Jansch and Susan Livingston will facilitate a book read and discussion of the very popular and highly recommended Americanah. Americanah is recommended by the national UMW for its honest description of immigration, racism, and the trials of being an immigrant from Africa. Its popularity is also due to being a well written and entertaining story. We’ll meet three times in the summer: Thursday evenings, 7‐8:30 pm, June 11, July 9 & August 13 @ UPUMC. Any questions please call Carol Jansch (303) 758‐0410 or

GUATEMALA MISSION ‐‐ LAST CHANCE! Tomorrow (June 1) is your last opportunity to commit to the 2015 University Park mission trip to Guatemala. We'll need an $800 deposit toward the $1600 cost, as we must buy airline tickets once we know who is committed. We will serve in rural areas with Salud y

KIDS CANS FOR KIDS – BRING THOSE ALUMINUM CANS!  Our latest can redemption for 2015 resulted in 57 pounds worth $28.50 for aluminum cans and other miscellaneous metals; for a total of $232.20 thus far this year. We will continue to send these funds to the Children’s Hospital Chaplaincy Department to supply Bibles for patients and their families including Spanish Bibles and to supply other reading 

materials for their mobile interfaith book cart. NOTE:  Contributors please separate different types of metals as Atlas Metal & Iron Corp—the recycle establishment we use—requires that the different types are separated, weighed and valued individually.  

  Volunteer in Mission Work Team to McCurdy Ministries    in Espanola, New Mexico The team will work at McCurdy School, Sept. 27‐ Oct.3, 2015. There will be work for all levels of physical abilities. This is sponsored by the Rocky Mountain

On June 7, the Offering through the Almoner’s Fund collection that takes place as part of Communion Sunday, will go to the Bridge of Love Offering. Please read below for more information.

SUPPORTING POST EBOLA RECOVERY IN SIERRA LEONE This is a free will offering by all Conference churches.  Each year the offering is used to assist national and/or global areas in crisis.  The Rocky Mountain Conference, through the Bridge of Love Offering , will assist in funding the Sierra Leone UMC Conference 3 Year “POST EBOLA PROGRAM”  

 THE GOAL IS TO PROTECT, HONOR, UPHOLD, AND RESTORE THE DIGNITY AND VALUE OF EVERY HUMAN BEING AFFECTED AND UNAFFECTED BY EBOLA.  WE WILL EMPHASIZE “SAFE AND DIGNIFIED LIFE” instead of “SAFE AND DIGNIFIED BURIALS.” (Sierra Leone Bishop John Yambasu)    

The funds will help rebuild, renew, and improve the decimated Sierra Leone UMC health system, improve the skills of both existing and new UMC Health Workers, and provide educational emphasis to UMC secondary school students on the importance of health and hygiene practices.  The Sierra  Leone UMC Conference has two major hospitals, 10 clinics, over 200 primary schools, and over 20 secondary schools.  All need help to recover from the long term effects of being shut down by Ebola   Donate to the Bridge of Love through your local church.  Your donation will be taken to the Annual Conference by your delegates.                    CULTIVATING              RENEWAL OF             THE TREE OF LIFE                                                                   CREATION       

                      

          On June 21 there will be a potluck and "informal" goodbye celebration from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in East Fellowship Hall. This is our opportunity to say goodbye to Paul and Jean. Let's keep the potluck as simple as possible and trust the randomness of the congregation. Bring your favorite salad,  Jell‐o salad, cold dish, dessert, appetizer, snack ‐ whatever strikes your fancy.    A memory book is being created. This will be a collection of memories, cards, photos, and any other creations that can easily slide into a letter‐size sleeve. There will be an opportunity to add to the book at the celebration. Carol Bedin, (carol_bedin@hotmail.com) will be collecting and assembling the memory book.   You may also drop off handwritten notes, cards, photos, etc. at the church office with Diane Felt.
