“The old man walks slowly down to the river, as he does every Sabbath at about this time. The week’s work is done, and his
people are gathering around the fire to break bread together, and to talk. For once the mood is light, and the old man leans
back against a tree and closes his eyes. For a moment – just a moment – it is almost possible to imagine he is leaning not
against this willow tree but against an olive tree, one of the trees in his beloved garden, on the land which his family farmed
for centuries. His mind drifts to another time and another place, and a smile creeps across his face…”
Thus begins the book The Story of God the Story of Us by Sean Gladding. We all like a good story and this is a story that will
change our lives! You see, for it’s the story of God that we find in Scriptures. But more than that it’s the story of how we fit
into God’s grand story.
I’m excited that we will have the opportunity for Sean to speak to us on Sunday morning January 13, in both worship services.
Then on Sunday, January 20, I will begin a 12-week sermon series with the same title, as we begin to place ourselves in this story of God. I hope
you will join us. You will also have the opportunity to join in the conversation by getting involved in one of our sermon-based grow groups. We
have 4 different sermon-based grow groups that will meet for 12-weeks. The topic each week in the sermon-based grow groups will simply flow
from the previous week’s sermon. Spots are limited so be sure and pick up a signup sheet in the lobby of the church or in the church office.
As we begin a New Year, it is my goal that each of us is involved in worship on a weekly basis and that each of us is also involved in some type
of grow group to help us learn how to grow spiritually and be a disciple of Jesus.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
In Christ,
Rick Enns
Sr. Pastor

Greetings!
2013 is going to be a
wonderful year here at
FUMC! I truly believe
that God has many
great things in store
for our church and our
community. 2012 was
a great year in our youth ministry and has given
a great deal of momentum for the new year.
That being said we have many things planned
in 2013. Sunday nights this year are going to
take a new look as we seek to aid the youth in
becoming disciples. We will ask youth to
commit to a discipleship group for 5 weeks
(there will be two terms) where we will
challenge and encourage them to practice arts
of discipleship throughout the week. Coming up
during spring break we will have our annual
mission week where the youth serve our
surrounding community. Also, keep in mind
that summer camp registration has already
begun. I would love to see many youth go to
camp with me this year! Camp is so important
in a youth's spiritual development! You can sign
your youth up by going to Ceta Canyon's
website or by contacting me
@ [email protected]. Keep an eye for
more events this year, as there are many other
opportunities for youth and continue to pray
that God uses our church and youth ministry in
this community.
Don't forget our youth schedule!

As the name implies, sermon based grow groups study the previous Sunday’s
sermon as it’s primary curriculum. The goal of a sermon-based group is to help
people develop deep personal relationships and spiritual transformation that fills
their entire life.
Here’s the lowdown on how they work.
12 weeks long
10-12 people only
Meet primarily in homes
Do intentional fellowship & mission events
Groups can continue to meet long term, they would just sign up again for the
next offering.
3 times a year sign-up with a month off in-between terms.

God has communicated with his people throughout the ages in many ways. Adam
and Eve encountered him directly in the Garden of Eden, Teresa of Avila experi-
enced him through visions, and Francis of Assisi heard his voice in nature. This
study gives practical advice for connecting on a deeply personal level with God. The
class size will be limited to 12.

study is for you.
