Poem Instructions on Not Giving Up by Ada Limon Read by Charlotte DeVaughn
Song Wild Wind a Blowin’ Barbara McAfee, Steven Hobert
There’s a wild wind a ‘blowinand it’s pullin’ on my hair,
a longing whisper, sweepin’ through the air,I know now what I wish that I’d known before:
there ain’t no time to sit aroundso get up off the floor.
Life may not be cherriesthere’ll be trouble and strife,
there’ll be ups and downsand lonely nights,
like the moon’s bright reflectionon the water down below:
we are messengers of beautyof this I surely know.
Out here I can feel the heatand I can feel the cold,
I slip on the iceand fall down in the snow,
I’m certain there’s a fireburnin’ deep in every soul,
so down, down the rabbit holethat’s where I shall go.
There’s a wild wind a ‘blowinand it’s pullin’ on my hair,
a longing whisper, sweepin’ through the air, before the time slips on by me
I’ve gotta open wide:to the beauty of creationlet my spirit come alive!
Thank you Lord for the sunshinefor clouds in the sky,
for blessings I’ve been given, for friends at my side,
I’ll fly strong with the wind,I’ll sail bold ‘cross he sea- all the while with angels
hovering ‘round me.
Blessing of Creation Spirit Wind

The Scripture Acts 2:1-12 (MSG) Rev. Judy Zabel Senior Minister
When the Feast of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force—no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building. Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks, and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them.
There were many Jews staying in Jerusalem just then, devout pilgrims from all over the world. When they heard the sound, they came on the run. Then when they heard, one after another, their own mother tongues being spoken, they were blown away. They couldn’t for the life of them figure out what was going on, and kept saying, “Aren’t these all Galileans? How come we’re hearing them talk in our various mother tongues?Parthians, Medes, and Elamites;Visitors from Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene;Immigrants from Rome, both Jews and proselytes;
Even Cretans and Arabs!“They’re speaking our languages, describing God’s mighty works!”Their heads were spinning; they couldn’t make head or tail of any of it. They talked back and forth, confused: “What’s going on here?”
The word of God for the people of God.Thanks be to God.

Prayers for Racial Reconciliation & Healing
In a desire for racial reconciliation and justice for all people, we affirm the dignity, beauty, and worth of every human being. We pray for open minds to understand that all your people are in the same human family. Give us strength to repent of racist attitudes, behaviors, and speech which demean others.
May we hear the voices of those wounded by racial discrimination, and their passionate appeals for change. Strengthen our resolve to make amends for past injustices and to right the wrongs of history.
Prayers for Our ChurchMay the Spirit lead us to be
faithful in our response to God’s revolutionary love and recreation in us, so that we might live in the joy of Pentecost. May we find hope in the gift of being a community filled with the Holy Spirit as we commit to serve in ways unique to our time and place.

Our Strategic Initiatives1. We will grow in love of God and neighbor by intentionally building a multi-racial beloved community inside and outside our church walls, working to advance racial, economic, and environmental justice for all.
2. We will reach and welcome new people by expanding the ways in which we communicate what God is doing through the ministries of Hennepin.
3. We will heal a broken world by working to undo the harm that church and society have caused in exclusion and discrimination through systemic forms of oppression against all marginalized people including the LGBTQ community.
