We were blessed with lovely weather and increased church capacity for our First Communion Mass. Check the next page of the bulletin to see the picture of our RE and school children dressed up and excit-ed to receive Jesus for the first time in the Eucharist (the picture was taken before Mass). It was a beauti-ful Mass and Deacon John Rottman gave an excellent homily. The children also received the Brown Scapular and Miraculous Medal of Our Lady at the end of Mass. I went in to visit the school 2nd graders the next day and while they almost all expressed that they were a little nervous beforehand, after they re-ceived Holy Communion, they had different experiences of feeling loved, peaceful, calm…one boy even said he can’t wait to go back to Mass to receive Jesus again! Out of the mouths of babes… We have a new permanent deacon! Deacon Jose Adan Bernabe´ was ordained a deacon and is officially assigned to our parish. While he was already heavily involved in the Spanish community at Sunday Mass, baptism and godparent preparation, the Friday Spanish prayer group etc…, he’ll be helping at other Masses and services as well. Please be sure to say hello to Deacon Jose and his wife Marcela when you see them and thank them both for responding to the Lord’s call to serve in the Church. Covid updates are good, our capacities have increased to over 250 in the church and we can now gather 250 people at other social gatherings. As you know, the updates are frequent, but they are going in a good direction. However, please be sure to wear your mask in the church, school, and any other event on site until further notice. The Arch’s Covid Task Force lets us know how to apply any government up-dates so please follow those on the parish grounds. We will keep you updated as best we can. As you remember, the new parish Finance Council was already formed with good members from all three merging parishes (Donna Quirk, Bill O’Hara, Tim Jacobs, and John Fiore). This council is required by Canon Law and is advisory to the pastor and has already met multiple times to help give approval for sale of parish properties and has conducted facilities inspections, approved major investments etc.... Now it is time to begin the process of forming the larger, more directly mission focused, Parish Council. The initial phase of forming the Parish Council will be through a nomination process. This gives you a chance to nominate yourself or someone else with a brief explanation of why that person might be a good candidate for such a council. In next week’s bulletin and online you will find an explanation of the role of a Parish Council as well as the nomination form. After the nomination period is over, there will be an orientation and prayer meeting in the church for all those who accepted their nomination that will be facilitated by me and the Parish Vitality Coordinator for Vicariate II. The target membership for the council would be nine with the ideal of three people being from each of the merg-ing sites. This council is particularly important to the whole parish and there will be clear agenda items, term limits, expectations of the pastor, as well as the members. While it is advisory to the pastor, I am quite aware that we must try to unite and I am only a priest of Jesus Christ, not Jesus Himself. The Lord must be the one to guide us all as we try to unify as a parish and gradually renew in faith. It is necessary that I listen to you and essential that we all try to listen to the Lord! Come Holy Spirit, Fr. Mike

Today, as we celebrate Pentecost, the Holy Spirit wants to make us advocates of God’s presence and to bring new life to others, especially those who do not know the love of God in their lives. This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able bring the love of God to the poor by providing food for the Food Pantry. Thank You for your continued support!

THANK YOU!

The Respect Life Committee is proud to announce that our Mother’s Day Flower Sale in support of The Wom-en’s Center was a great success! Thank you for your support and generosity. We hope everyone had a fantas-tic Mother’s Day and we’re looking forward to our sale again next year!

CONGRATULATIONS JOSE AND MARCELA ADAN BERNABE´ On Saturday, May 8, 2021, Mr. Jose Adan Bernabe´ was ordained a permanent deacon for the Archdio-cese of Chicago by Cardinal Blase Cupich. We, the deacons of St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish, warmly wel-come to the Order of Deacon both Jose, and his wife, Marcela, as they begin their ministry with our parish community. After four very intense years of diaconate formation, Deacon Jose completed the necessary require-ments demanded of those called to be ordained. The Institute for Diaconal Studies is located at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein. Jose and his wife spent many hours in evening classes and Saturday formation sessions at the Seminary, as well as at a variety of other locations in the Archdiocese, preparing for this special day. For well over 1,000 years the Diaconate was experienced as a transitional state leading to priesthood. The Second Vatican Council reinstated the Permanent Diaconate, changing the perspective of the role the dea-con serves in the Church in the 21st century. The Deacon is part of the Order of the Church’s hierarchy, one of the “Holy Orders” consisting of Bishop, Priest, and Deacon. Deacons are called to be heralds of the Word of God, servants at the altar, and ministers of charity to God’s people. As Deacon Jose knelt before Cardinal Cupich, he declared his obedience to the Cardinal and his successors. Jose was also presented with the Book of the Gospels and these words: “Jose, receive the Gospel of Christ whose herald you now become. Believe what you proclaim, teach what you believe, and practice what you teach.” This powerful mandate is our bond of service to the people of God. May God bless you Jose and Marcela and your family as you begin your service to our Lord and His Church. Please join us in congratulating Jose and Marcela. We warmly welcome you and offer all our best wishes as we serve together in the years to come! Deacon Greg Bzdon, Deacon John Rottman, Deacon Steve Wagner

Sharing Families - Rwanda

The students are back to school thanks to the Sharing Families Program. The students were only allowed back in classrooms because we were able to help with COVID prevention supplies. The list of supplies:

Hand Sanitizers (big & small bottles) Paper boxes for tests and examinations Blue pens for tests and examinations and red pens and blue pens Manilla papers

A message from the Head Mistress (Principal) “I take this opportunity to express and send to you many thanks and gratitude’s from both teachers, students and parents for your endless support and dedication to improved education of Rwandan youth.” Remote learning, as we know it, was not an option in this area of Rwanda. The homes do not have electricity and the only computers available are the three we provided for the school. The students do not have textbooks or at home learning tools. The teachers are doing their best to help the students get back on track. The students are working very hard and are doing well.

Our latest photos Thank you to everyone participating in the Sharing Families Program. The children will never forget that your generosity has provided a life changing opportunity. They are forever grateful. The cost to become a sponsor is $25.00 per student, however any size donation is appreciated. You can give at any time by making a check payable to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish. Please be sure to mark on the memo portion of the check “Station School”. You can also donate online via Faith Direct. Follow our progress on this remarkable journey at www.stelizabethtrinity.org and see the hope and smiles in the eyes of the children. We have given the gift of a brighter future and we have received the gift of an extended family. Bobbie DuMelle

Today is a special day because it is the last day of the Easter Sea-son. Just as we started Easter with special festivity, we also end it festively. The Pentecost Vigil mirrors the Easter Vigil (albeit with fewer readings and no Sacraments of Initiation) and Pentecost

Sunday mirrors Easter Sunday with the sung Sequence.

Now, picking up from last week, we come to the Our Father, which is part of the Ordinary - meaning it does not change from Mass to Mass. There are many musical settings for the Our Father, but each language tends to have that one version that everyone knows and uses. Of the three languages that I am most familiar with, it is interesting to note that the “official” ver-sions are very similar (they start off the same way and follow the same basic melodic con-tour). I think that is very symbolic of our unity (Catholicity) as a Church.

Following the Our Father is the Lamb of God, which is also an Ordinary. I have found that there is confusion about when/how the Lamb of God begins, so I would like to briefly address it. The Lamb of God begins at the Fraction Rite - that is, when the priest splits the host (see General Instruction of the Roman Missal 83). If the priest begins the Fracture immediately af-ter the Sign of Peace, then the Lamb of God also starts right away. If the priest goes to retrieve our Blessed Lord from His repose in the Tabernacle (or does something else prior to the Frac-tion), then there is a delay in the start of the Lamb of God until that moment of the Fraction occurs.

For the next two weeks we have some pretty important Solemnities leading us off in the second chunk of Ordinary Time. When all is said and done, that will have made four consecutive Sundays with big celebrations. I hope that helps you to remember that Ordinary time is not “run of the mill”, as our modern lexi-con would have you believe, but rather a special time that just happens to be la-belled chronologically.

Come, Holy Spirit!
