I can’t believe it is May already. This year is flying by! Can you believe it is already time for the Annual General Meeting of the Eldoglen HOA (NPC)? If you want to have your voice heard, please attend. As a member of the HOA this is your duty and your right.

It is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to a beloved member of our office staff, Hanlie van Pletzen. Hanlie is moving to a new life and brand new opportunities in the Western Cape and we wish her only the best for the future.

ELDOGLEN SAYS GOODBYE TO HANLIE VAN PLETSEN

It is with sadness that the Eldoglen HOA say an emotional goodbye to one of its long standing employees. Hanlie van Pletsen has served the HOA and the residents of Eldoglen tirelessly and effectively since her appointment in May 2005. Her contribution to the well-being of the estate and to good relations with the residents has been an effective part of her dedication to the HOA.

Hanlie will be sorely missed by all as she embarks on a life changing endeavour into the welcoming arms of the Western Cape. Good Luck Hanlie, and may you be richly blessed.

The Annual General Meeting of the Eldoglen HOA (NPC) will be held in the Neos Hall, Bondev Park, on Wednesday, 27 July 2016. Notice of the meeting will be sent to every Home Owner timeously, with the dates by which actions such as nomination of prospective directors and items for inclusion in the agenda must be submitted, as well as other information.

Please note the date to ensure that you are present to do your duty as a member of the Eldoglen HOA.

Security of person and property is surely the biggest consideration when one decides to invest in a security estate and to settle there. It is thus also necessary that the security measures are constantly being reviewed and improved, to continuously ensure the security and safety of residents.

With this goal in mind, the Board of Directors of the Eldoglen HOA provided and spent funds on the upgrading of the security systems. The latest of the upgrading are respectively the erection of a CCTV camera system on the perimeter wall surrounding both parts of Eldoglen, as well as the total replacement of the electrical fence. Last mentioned project is still in process.

Concerning the CCTV camera project, all home owners on whose properties camera poles and equipment kiosks were erected, are sincerely thanked for their co-operation. Only in one instance, where a tenant, notwithstanding the owner’s consent, would not permit the installation of equipment on the property, was any resistance experienced. Unfortunately the property is situated in a very strategic position and therefore the equipment was installed in an alternative manner on the property. It is however sad that one person, who is not even a member of the HOA, has the audacity to compromise the

right of more than 700 home owners to security and that because of trivialities.

However, the cameras were installed, the control room with 24/7 monitoring of all cameras is fully operational and the total area adjacent to the outside of the perimeter wall is under constant surveillance. This system, together with the electric fence, provide double security against penetration of the town through or over the wall.

Residents are assured that their privacy will be protected at all times and that no camera will record any footage within the boundary wall.

Veiligheid van persoon en eiendom is sekerlik die grootste oorweging wanneer ʼn mens besluit om in ʼn sekuriteits landgoed te belê en jou en jou gesin daar te vestig. Dit is ook dan nodig dat die veiligheidsmaatreëls voortdurend hersien en verbeter word, ten einde die veiligheid van inwoners deurentyd te verseker.

Juis met hierdie oogmerk het die Direksie van Eldoglen HEV oor die afgelope aantal jare fondse bewillig en spandeer aan die opgradering van die veiligheidstelsels. Die jongste van die opgraderings is die aanbring van ʼn CCTV kamera netwerk op die grensmuur rondom beide dele van Eldoglen, wat pas voltooi is, sowel as die algehele vervanging van die elektriese heining. Laasgenoemde projek is steeds in proses.

Betreffende die CCTV kamera projek word alle huiseienaars op wie se eiendomme kamerapale en toerustingkiosks aangebring is, hartlik bedank vir hulle samewerking.

Slegs in een geval, waar ʼn huurder nieteenstaande die toestemming van die eienaar geweier het dat die toerusting daar aangebring word, is teenstand ondervind. Ongelukkig is die eiendom op ʼn uiters strategiese punt geleë en daarom is die toerusting op alternatiewe wyse daar aangebring. Dit is egter betreurenswaardig dat een persoon, wat nie eens ʼn lid van die HEV is nie, bereid is om die reg van meer as 700 huiseienaars tot veiligheid oor onbenullighede in gedrang te bring.

Die kameras is egter geïnstalleer, die beheerkamer met 24/7 monitering van alle kameras is ten volle operasioneel en die volledige gebied aangrensend aan die buitekant van die grensmuur is deurentyd onder waarneming. Hierdie stelsel, tesame met die elektriese heining, verskaf die landgoed nou met dubbele beskerming teen penetrasie oor of deur die grensmuur.

Inwoners word verseker dat hulle privaatheid ten alle tye beskerm sal word en dat geen kamera enige beeld van binne die grensmuur afneem nie.

Recipe2 Servings

Ingredients • 3 tbs extra-virgin olive oil • 1 onion - finely diced • 3 tbs white balsamic vinegar • 10ml Dijon mustard• A dash of salt and milled pepper • 30g watercress - or rocket • 1 pear - thinly sliced • 60 ml blue cheese - crumbled • 60ml flaked almonds - toasted

MethodHeat olive oil in a pan and fry onion until well browned, but not burnt. Cool slightly.

Whisk in remaining dressing ingredients and lightly season.

Toss watercress and pear slices with 2 tbsp (30ml) dressing and place on two plates.

Scatter over cheese and nuts. Serve with remaining dressing.

WISHING WELL I watched a cooking contest on TV the other day and the contestants were given the task to cook a fabulous meal based on their childhood memories, especially family memories. I do not have a chef’s mind and cannot think of great dishes, but I immediately related to this and I remembered so many things and so many people. I got really nostalgic and emotional and wished that I could re-live some of those treasured memories.

I grew up in the very small village of Grasmere, approximately 30 kilometres

south of Johannesburg, where the toll gate on the N1 is now. We had no electricity and were dependent on paraffin lamps and candles for light and a very nice old Esse coal stove for cooking, heat and hot water, with a geyser tank attached to the stove. My fondest memories are built around this coal stove, where our family had some of its best times ever.

Due to the distance from suitable high schools, my older brother, my sister and I had to attend boarding school and

we chose the very distant Lichtenburg High School for two reasons. My grandparents lived there and the Latin teacher was renowned as one of the best. We wanted to become lawyers and doctors, so we needed Latin. Ironically, non of us became a lawyer or a doctor. The thing is, being so far from home at boarding school meant that we could only come home for school holidays. Weekends we had the choice to stay in the hostel or go to Oupa and Ouma, which was nice, but not as nice as being with Dad and Mom. 11

So when Dad came to fetch us on the last day of school, we were usually the last of the boarders to go home, as he did not get to Lichtenburg before 17:00 and then the little Renault Dauphine took another 3 hours to get back home. But what a home coming every time! Mom baked her own bread in the Esse and as we walked in the back door, Ouboet and I summarily confiscated one of those big loaves, broke it in half and downed it with a large glass of hand drawn milk, just as an appetiser. Then, after we dumped our large bags of dirty washing and empty suitcases, we packed away a very good, very big cooked dinner during which we playfully pulled the chicken’s wishbone and argued about who gets the chicken skins which Dad did not eat or the skin off the home made custard. And we talked and laughed and worried about exam results and Northern Transvaal always beating our rugby teams.

Then we retired to the coal stove. We packed our kitchen chairs in a half circle in front of the stove and caught up with everything we missed during the term until around about 11 o’clock, when Dad would tell us it was time to put the jacket potatoes in the oven

for exactly one hour. When those ertappels, as Dad called them, came out, they were crispy and piping hot. We cut them in halves with salt and real farm butter and tucked into them with the melted butter dripping off our chins. This memory will never be wiped from my mind, ever. I do not associate it with the potatoes or the eating thereof, but with family, with a mom and a dad who I know loved us unconditionally, with a brother and sister who are dear to me and lots and lots of talking and sharing and loving.

I know that myself and my dearly beloved have a relationship like that with our three sons and their families now and we were privileged to spend a whole week with all of them last week during a short seaside holiday. I know we made memories again and I know that they are just accumulating with the memories we made during their growing-up years. I tell them my childhood memories and they tell me theirs and we laugh and love.

I hope that they will one day tell my memories to their children and that they will still laugh about it and have adoration for these precious times.
