Can you believe we are already almost half way through the year!?!
We’ve had a busy couple of months planning and forecasting events for the remainder of the year and the calendar is shaping up nicely.
I hope you take a moment to take a look at page 17 of this newsletter to check out some of the fun and exciting events we have planned for you this summer!May is already proving to be a busy month and I for one
am looking forward to each event we have on the schedule this month. For the kiddos on Saturday, May 10th we will have a special Craft Hour to make gifts and keepsakes for Mom. On Friday the 16th, we will be featuring Disney’s Frozen as our Family Movie and are expected to have a couple special guests drop by, you don’t want to miss this awesome surprise!Back by popular demand are Water Aerobics and the VillageWalk Drum Circle. Please watch for emails with details on both of these activities. We will also be holding another Dinner and a Movie this month featuring “Diana” (starring Naomi Watts as Diana Princess of Wales).Be sure to join us on Saturday, May 24th at 1pm for the Memorial Day BBQ and Neighborhood Block Party open for all residents. Please remember if you would like to join us there is no cost but if you are planning on purchasing a plate of the delicious BBQ we will be serving to please register as it helps us plan accordingly. We will have music, games, and fun for the whole family. Registration will open soon, stay tuned for emails.

Hi Everyone! I hope you all have had another great month! I had fun-filled month of April on working and planning our landscaping and painting projects that will commence THIS MONTH!!! Please be on the look out for notifications of the work being performed pertaining to Phase 1 of the 2014 Painting Project. We will begin at the shared wall between Barletta Drive & Padua Lane. We will then have separate teams working on the Townhomes and Villas around the second week of May. The plan is to start at the locations furthest from the front entrance. We will be sending emails as well as posting notices to each home’s door. We will be removing them from your door a few days later for those that were not already taken off.
I have greatly appreciated the hard work and support of the entire Mainscape team and wish them the absolute best. I have had the opportunity to work on creating new relationships with our new landscaping crew from Down To Earth prior to their start date. I look forward to having them work closely with our team to make for a very smooth transition. We have been able to discuss several of our community challenges as it pertains to landscaping as well as setting our VillageWalk expectations! We will be holding a meet & greet this month so everyone has the opportunity to meet the team. Details on that will be announced via email, so please watch your inboxes!

To help in maintaining a secured home and personal environment, one must limit the access to their property. Intruders look for no or very few obstacles blocking quick entrance and exits. Fences, entrance doors, garage doors, etc. prevent burglars from
carrying away large items if gates and doors are locked. It is always and “best practice” to keep all doors, gates, etc. locked even when you are home. Ladders and other tools should always be stored in your garage or away from street view; never keep them when they can be used as a burglary tool, or even stolen. It is a little known fact that good exterior lighting is a deterrent to crime. While any lighting will help reduce your risk of becoming a victim, the proper lights, used correctly will be the most effective deterrent to criminal activity. Exterior lights are important, especially near doors, windows and the rear of your home. All sides of your home should be protected be security lighting that is located high and out of reach, and is vandal resistant. Lighting in garages and entryways is critical. For garages, an automatic garage opener with lighting is the best choice. Almost every garage door opener made today has a light that comes on when the opener is activated, lighting the garage interior. In entryways, it is best to leave on, have a light on a timer, or have a light connected to a motion sensor or to a photocell.

Achoo! Allergy season is here in full force.Just like humans, our pets also get allergies too!
Do you know the symptoms if your pet is experiencing an allergic reaction? Humans sneeze or get itchy and watery eyes from grass pollen. A pet may experience this
too, as well as can get runny noses, coughs, wheezing or ear infections. But typically our pets develop itchy feet that they lick and bite in an attempt to sooth it. Pollen and other allergens often cause an animal to get itchy skin, rashes that may lead to open skin sores from scratching too much, and even loss of hair if excessive. They also can get discoloration (typically a reddish hue) on their fur from the itch or the excessive licking. There are many ways to alleviate the pet’s discomfort, but I have found my most trustworthy solution is to use Certified Pure Therapeutic Essential Oils (CPTG). Certain oils can help relieve and even eliminate the itching and side effects caused by the allergens. In some cases they act to shield a pet from being exposed to the triggers before affecting the pet. Other oils can actually help deter insects from biting your pets. And guess what??? These same oils are super effective on helping humans avoid or soothe bites as well! For several years now I have chosen to protect my dogs, myself, and our well being by only using natural products. I only use essential oils or solutions created with the oils instead of the toxic flea/tick treatments prescribed by our vets and sold at many pet and department stores. It is much safer for the animal, as well as their humans who cuddle and hold them when bathed in these toxic chemicals. If you want to learn more how you can naturally help your pets through allergic reactions, as well as any other health or behavior issues with the proper use of essential oils, please feel free to contact me. I am trained and certified in the use of essential oils on animals, as well as their humans. I only use Certified Pure Therapeutic Essential Oils from dōTerra as only the best should be used on our fur’babies! I can guide you to what oils are safe to use on your pet to make going through allergy season a breeze, not a sneeze!

Eyelash tinting colors the eyelashes. There are many color choices including auburn, dark brown, light brown, black and blue black.
The lashes are cleansed and all residue is removed. The under part of the eyes are protected with eye pads, so the tint does not go through to dye the skin. The lashes then have the tint applied and an esthetician keeps the tint on the lashes for 10 – 15 minutes. The tint is the removed and you're ready to go. This treatment takes up to 35 minutes, while your lashes are tinting You are treated to a hand massage.
Does it hurt?There is not usually any discomfort, but if you are nervous, tint can seep into the eye a bit which may cause a slight sting-ing, and your eyes may look red for a short period of time. It all goes away in a few minutes.
How long does it all last?Eyelash tinting lasts for about 3-4 weeks. The coloring slowly lightens.

It is with sadness that I write our last communication for your newsletter. Mainscape has not been retained as your landscape company. Our on-site team
feels as though we were a part of this community. Our blood, sweat and yes…tears are a part of this soil. We are extremely proud of the service we provided to this beautiful community and want to thank the each one of you and the HOA management team for allowing us the opportunity to do so. We believe we have experienced much success here. I have routinely bragged on the overall “look” of VillageWalk and its landscape. As we part ways we want to be sure you know how much we enjoyed servicing your homes and the community. Our team will miss working with each of you.

Down To Earth (DTE) would like to thank the VillageWalk Community for the opportunity to serve them. We look forward to building a great relationship with the
VillageWalk residents and the HOA team. DTE will be supplying magnets and business cards to all residences with our contact information and website listed. Down to Earth will officially start the maintenance of VillageWalk on May 5th. Two of the first projects we have started with the community manager are the VillageWalk annual plant replacements and working with the contracted painters for phase 1 of the Townhomes’ and Villas’ painting project to ensure plants are cut away from your homes as much as possible to help the painting project run smoothly. In addition to the projects above, our crews will be paying special attention to detail items in the landscape throughout the community (weeds, tree clearance, pruning/trimming of shrubs). Our fertilizer and pest techs will be initiating our IPM (integrated pest management) program and our irrigation tech will be starting irrigation zone checks.

The Village Walker’s Lake Nona team for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life did an OUTSTANDING job on April 5th and our community has a lot to be proud of!
Our team was led by co-captain’s Pam Gates and Laurie Holmes. Team members included Russ Gates, Chuck Holmes, Lisa & Charley Ryan, Pat & Ellen Burke, Sue Blackburn, Sherry Conemac, Barbara Johnson, Elaine Hudgeons, Darlene Oakerson and Sue Ostrander. Our original team goal was $2,500.00 and our total as of today’s date is $5,700.55! We are currently the #1 fundraising team! Lake Nona’s 2014 Relay For Life total is at $30,480.95 towards their $65,000.00 goal. This amount is determined by the American Cancer Society. All teams have until the end of August to raise their fundraising thermometers. It’s never too late to donate…. Just log on to our fundraising page at: http://www.relayforlife.org/ and look for the Village Walker’s Lake Nona! We’d like to thank Cheryl Rose for the beautiful handmade quilt that she donated for our raffle. The VillageWalk FUNdraising “Car Wash Team”, led by Darlene Torres did another amazing job! We raised $587.00 thanks to their expertise and hard work! We’d also like to thank Charley and Lisa Ryan for creating the VillageWalk Supports Relay For Life t-shirts. Sue Blackburn and Elaine Hudgeons toiled in their gardens and produced home grown cacti and herbs that contributed towards our goal. Once again, we were supported by Pulte and the Lake Nona Marketing/Welcome Center – thank you for your generous donations! We’d like to thank Tijuana Flats for providing the meat for our delicious Walking Tacos which were sold the day of relay and to Chili’s for hosting a Spirit Night on our behalf. Once again, Sweet Mama’s hosted their Annual RFL Bingo Fundraiser and this year they donated 100% of their proceeds to our team! Relay was truly a group effort and for the third year in a row, VillageWalk is once again a “Team of Excellence”! Relay For Life 2015 will have a Team Kick Off Party in the fall and the relay will be held in the spring at Lake Nona High School – dates TBD. We welcome new members and are always open to ideas for FUNdraising activities. If you’d like to organize your own team, help is always available/ Don’t be scared off by the word “relay” – we do not run, although you can! We walk the track and are committed to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life motto – “Celebrating a World With More Birthdays”. Together, we can make this happen – one lap at a time.

When any deliveries are being made to your home, please have the delivery truck come to our main entrance via the Gatehouse to enter the property. Any and all visitors and vendors, must use the this entrance to gain access into the community. The East and West gate entrances are for residents only and must be used as such. If a visitor is traveling behind you in their vehicle, please guide them to the main entrance for entry. The gates were designed to allow only one vehicle at a time and damage may be caused to the car and/or gate, if a vehicle tries to enter without a barcode.
As a reminder, please remember when pulling up to the laser reader to enter the property with your vehicle to stay a minimum of three feet away from the curb so the laser reader can properly read your barcode decal. Please remember that if you are pulling any type of trailer that you must bring it through the main entrance and enter via the Guardgate. I receive more calls from clients who need help with choosing a paint color. Color can be a scary decision for some, especially if they have made a bad choice
previously. I see people agonizing over paint color in the paint store all the time. Here are a few tips that will help you with choosing a color. First choose a color for a main living area or bedroom that is not to bright or intense. Color sends vibrations and the brighter the color the more vibrations it sends. Bright color is magnificent in small doses. So use it as an accent not on the walls. Try to choose a color that is a bit muddy for the walls. By that I mean that the vibrancy is toned down with a bit of brown or grey. It will be more relaxing and easier to live with. Paint on a builders white wall will always look shocking when you start to apply it. But once the whole room is done, it will seem much less dramatic. Next, consider the finish or sheen you will use. Flat looks best in main living areas, but for those of us with pets or kids, flat is not always the best choice. The glossier the paint, the more durable and washable it is. So go up one finish to eggshell. In wet areas, like the kitchen or bath, consider a satin. Both eggshell and satin are washable. I keep a few of the disposable foam brushes handy and use those all the time to touchup my painted walls. Use a permanent marker and put the room that the paint was used in on the lid of the can so you know which paint goes where. This will save time and trial and error when colors are similar in different rooms. Paint will definitely change the look, feel and mood of a room. When it is right it is fabulous, so go for it!

We at Dressed in Hope are so proud to share this information with the residents of VillageWalk,
we now have 250 dresses that are completed and are ready to be shipped!! Their destination has not been determined at this time but we hope to know soon where the need is the greatest. Last month we shipped 50 dresses to the Philippines via Mobile Air Ministries. Their next mission may be to Haiti for the delivery of 100-150 dresses. Dressed in Hope is an organization in which volunteers construct simple dresses and dolls during weekly workshops held every Thursday from 10am to 12pm at the VillageWalk Town Center. Meeting that often is strictly voluntary for our members. Volunteers come weekly or whenever the urge strikes to participate in a worthwhile effort and at the same time, enjoy the social aspect of a group. We want our helpers to feel completely comfortable with their level of commitment whatever that may be!
