You’ve probably noticed by now that most of our people are into cars. Well, this guy takes the cake. Luc is not only manager at our Gatineau store, he’s the actual guy that was there to set it up and open it back in 2004. Paint, fixtures and all!

His HD career started in 1978 and, well, he got around starting on the ground level as a grease monkey, rep, parts manager and the whole gamut. More than 35 years’ experience in all; Even if you don’t deal with our Gatineau store, you’ve probably heard of Luc.

Back to cars. We think Luc either has an addiction or doesn’t like money: ‘41 Chev ¾ ton, ’64 Chevelle, two ’49 Internationals (one to be restored, one to be a rod) and probably more that we don’t know of. He does all the work himself of course, even the bodies. Don’t you know Mr. Luc attended the prestigious Reynolds-Alberta Museum for the Automobile Bodies Metal Finish Repair workshop. Super Mario: Won’t steer you wrong Think you’ve checked

everything on your safety? Probably not. But don’t feel bad—most forget to check one item that is not only crucial to your truck, but also could reveal other serious problems: Axle stops.

Doing a re & re on a steering gear? You should always check them before the re-install.

Any king pin, draglink, tie rod or cross tube work should also include a peek at your axle stops along with the steering gear.

Road feels weird? The box may not be relieving properly at one or both stops. Old or new, steering gears’ pressure relief is directly affected by the axle stops.

Steering gear leaking? May want to check those stops again. Misadjusted or missing stops will cause a leak sooner or later.

Knowing your steering type, how it works and sets up to the stops will help you sort out steering related issues.

What if you’re changing tire size—should you change your axle stop position? Yup. And, you may have to get some work done to your box also.

So, remember:

Adjusting a stop = address the steering gear as well

Front end work = check the impact of steering set up to the stops

Axle stop damaged or missing = clue to something else

Bottom line is: Axle stops must be on, properly set-up and in good shape to ensure a true and safe power steering system.
