Styrofoam no longer picked up at NorloBy Debbie Heishman

I appreciate those who have been bringing theirStyrofoam to be recycled, but after May, I will nolonger be picking up Styrofoam at Audubonmeetings. I will, however, give instructions fortaking it to Hopewell Township’s New HopeRecyclers.

Where to recycle: New Hope Recyclers, anonprofit organization in Hopewell Township,Cumberland County, accepts Styrofoam No. 6 andall plastic Nos. 1 through 7, along with other

commonly recycled items. They are open for recycling drop-off the first

Saturday of each month at Hopewell Townshipmunicipal building, 415 Three Square HollowRoad, Newburg.

Do NOT drop off Styrofoam any other day.The township is not responsible for collection; it isthe county that funds the transport of items once amonth to recycle centers in eastern Pennsyvania.

Directions: From Shippensburg, take Pa.696 (Earl Street) north about 7 miles to Newburg. At Pa. 641, turn right, then turn left at the firstintersection, High Street. Go about 1.5 miles.Outside of the borough, High Street becomes ThreeSquare Hollow Road. The municipal building is onthe right side.

Clean Styrofoam:--Only CLEAN Styrofoam No. 6 is accepted

for recycle. Clean means washed in dish soap andwater, not merely wiped off. Greasy surfaces areunacceptable.

--Any paper labels wrapped around hotdrinking cups or absorbent pads stuck onto meattrays must be torn off. Only the white actualStyrofoam is accepted.

(Note for plastics): Plastics must be washedas well, but paper labels do not need to be removed.

I would like to thank my Audubon friends for theirexpressions of sympathy and the many cards Ireceived on the passing of my Mother. She was 99and was wondering why the Lord was not takingher. My daughter was there when she died and shesaid you could almost feel the angels coming downand lifting her to Heaven. If you didn't believe therewas a God, you did then. Thanks again.

Garner, Bob Keener, Eric Martin and Bill Oyler) didget to see it also. When the word got out quite a fewbirders from all over PA came on Tuesday, but itnever showed again at my feeder. Two birders saidthey saw it on a feeder in my neighbors’ yard forseveral seconds through a scope at a good distancefrom my yard. About 30 birders came from as far asScranton, State College, Pittsburgh and Philadelphiaand several came on Wednesday but wereunsuccessful. Fortunately, I looked at my feederwhen I arrived home on Monday. When I first sawit, I was not aware that it was rare in PA. The onlyother reported sightings of the Lesser Goldfinch inPA was in 1982 in northwestern sector but werenever documented. The obvious grayish beak andthe dark back, set it apart from the AmericanGoldfinch. It is hard to believe that someone elsehas not seen this bird at other locations but I guessthey could have seen the bright yellow and assumedit to be an American Goldfinch without reallylooking carefully.
