    Charging the battery pack

    1 Turn off your camcorder by closing the LCD monitor,and attach the battery pack.

    2 Pull out the Built-in USB Cable.

    3 Connect the AC Adaptor and the camcorder with theUSB connection support cable, and connect the ACAdaptor to the wall outlet (wall socket).

    The POWER/CHG (charge) lamp turns orange. The POWER/CHG (charge) lamp turns off when the battery pack is

    fully charged. Disconnect the USB connection support cable from thecamcorder.

    The shape of the AC Adaptor differs depending on the countries/regions.

    Turn off your camcorder before you remove the battery pack.

    Charging the battery using your computerTurn off your camcorder and connect the camcorder to a running

    computer using the Built-in USB Cable.

    To use your camcorder connected to the wall outlet(wall socket)

    Connect the camcorder to the wall outlet (wall socket) in the same

    way as Charging the battery pack. Attach the battery pack to the camcorder. The battery pack may be consumed even if the camcorder is connected

    to the wall outlet (wall socket).

    Turning the power on

    To set the date and time again, select [Setup][ ClockSettings][Date & Time Setting].

    To turn off the operating sound, select [Setup]

    [ General Settings][Beep][Off].

    1 Open the LCD monitor of your camcorder and turnthe power on.

    2 Following the instructions on the LCD monitor, selectthe language, the geographical area, Daylight

    Savings or Summer Time, date format, and the dateand time.

    To go to the next page, touch [Next]. To turn off the power, close the LCD monitor.

    Touch the button on the LCD monitor.

    Inserting a memory card

    To select a memory card as the recording medium, select [Setup][ Media Settings][Media Select][Memory Card].

    (HDR-CX540/CX610E/PJ540/PJ540E/PJ610E) To eject the memory card, open the cover and lightly push the memory

    card in once.

    Types of memory card you can use with yourcamcorder

    1 Open the cover, and insert the memory card until itclicks.

    The [Preparing image database file. Please wait.] screen appears ifyou insert a new memory card. Wait until the screen disappears.

    Insert the memory card straight in the right direction so that thecamcorder can recognize it.

    In the default setting, movies are recorded with HD format and MP4

    format simultaneously (Dual Video REC). MP4 format is easy for playingback your movies on a smartphone, for uploading to a network, or foruploading to the Web.

    Items on the LCD monitor disappear if you do not operate the camcorderfor a few seconds. To display items again, touch anywhere except thebuttons on the LCD monitor.

    You can check the recording time of a medium on the LCD monitor in theshooting mode.

    To change the image quality of the movies you record, select [Image Quality/Size][ REC Mode].

    Recording movies

    1 Open the LCD monitor, and press START/STOP tostart recording.

    To stop recording, press START/STOP again. You can record photos during movie recording by pressing PHOTO

    (Dual Capture).

    Connecting the camcorder to a TV

    1Connect the HDMI OUT jack of the camcorder to theHDMI IN jack of a TV using the HDMI cable supplied.

    If your TV does not have an HDMI jack, connect the Multi/Micro USB

    Terminal of the camcorder to the video/audio input jacks of the TVusing an AV cable (sold separately).

    Using the built-in projector (HDR-PJ530E/PJ540/PJ540E/PJ610E)

    1Press the PROJECTOR button (page 30).

    2 Select [Image Shot on This Device].

    3 Follow the operating guide on the LCD monitor, andthen select [Project].

    Cancel the sleep mode or unlockthe screen on the smartphonebeforehand.

    Make sure that is displayedon the LCD monitor of thecamcorder and the smartphone.

    Continue touching thecamcorder to the smartphonewithout moving untilPlayMemories Mobile starts (1 to2 seconds).

    If the camcorder cannot beconnected with the smartphone

    1 On the smartphone, select[Settings], then, select[More...] to check that [NFC]is enabled.

    2 On the camcorder, play backan image to be sent to thesmartphone. You can transfer MP4 movies

    and photos only.

    3 Touch the camcorder to the

    smartphone.

    1 Press the (View Images)button, then select

    [Edit/Copy] [Send toSmartphone] [Select onThis Device] image type.

    2 Select the image you want totransfer, and add , andthen select

    Playing back images with

    other devicesYou may not be able to play backimages that were recorded on yourcamcorder with other devicesnormally. Also, you may not be ableto play back images recorded onother devices with your camcorder.

    Recording and playback

    Avoid rough handling,disassembling, modifying, physicalshock, or impact such ashammering, dropping or steppingon the product. Be particularlycareful with the lens.

    To ensure stable operation of thememory card, it is recommended toformat the memory card with yourcamcorder before the first use.

    Formatting the memory card willerase all the data stored on it andthe data will be irrecoverable. Saveyour important data on your PC, etc.

    Confirm the direction of thememory card. If you forcibly insertthe memory card in the wrongdirection, the memory card,memory card slot, or image datamay be damaged.

    Before starting to record, test therecording function to make sure theimage and sound are recordedwithout any problems.

    Television programs, films, videotapes, and other materials may becopyrighted. Unauthorizedrecording of such materials may bea violation of the copyright laws.

    Compensation for the content of

    recordings cannot be provided,even if recording or playback is notpossible due to a malfunction of thecamcorder, recording media, etc.

    The camcorder is not dustproofed,dripproofed or waterproofed.

    Do not let your camcorder get wet,for example, from rain or sea water.If your camcorder gets wet, it maymalfunction. Sometimes thismalfunction cannot be repaired.

    Do not aim the camcorder at thesun or strong light. Doing so maycause your camcorder tomalfunction.

    Do not use the camcorder nearstrong radio waves or radiation. Thecamcorder may not be able torecord or play back imagesproperly.

    Do not use the camcorder on a

    sandy beach or anywhere dusty.Doing so may cause yourcamcorder to malfunction.

    If moisture condensation occurs,stop using the camcorder untilmoisture evaporates.

    Do not subject the camcorder tomechanical shock or vibration. Ifyou do so, the camcorder mayoperate incorrectly or may not

    record images. In addition, therecording medium or recorded datamay be damaged.

    LCD monitorThe LCD monitor is manufacturedusing extremely high-precisiontechnology, so over 99.99% of thepixels are operational for effectiveuse. However, there may be some

    tiny black points and/or bright points(white, red, blue, or green in color)that appear constantly on the LCDmonitor. These points are normalresults of the manufacturing processand do not affect the recording in anyway.

    Camcorder temperatureIf you use the camcordercontinuously for a long time, thecamcorder gets very warm. This is nota malfunction.

    Overheat protectionDepending on the camcorder andbattery temperature, you may beunable to record movies or the powermay turn off automatically to protectthe camcorder. A message will bedisplayed on the LCD monitor before

    the power turns off or you can nolonger record movies. In this case,leave the power off and wait until thecamcorder and battery temperaturegoes down. If you turn on the powerwithout letting the camcorder andbattery cool enough, the power mayturn off again or you may be unableto record movies.

    Deactivating wireless LAN(Wi-Fi, NFC, etc.) temporarilyWhen you board an airplane, you candeactivate the Wi-Fi functiontemporarily. Select [Setup][ General Settings][Airplane Mode][On].

    If you run into any problems

    using your camcorder: Check your camcorder referring to

    setting, are reset. Contact your Sony dealer or localauthorized Sony service facility.
