As we praise the goodness of the Lord, we present our petitions to
our heavenly Father.
For the Holy Father and all Bishops, that they will be strengthened
and guided by the Holy Spirit in their leadership of the Church.
For the past and future Pastors of Divine Mercy Parish, that God will
reward them abundantly for their service to this parish community.
For all those called to the priesthood or consecrated life in this Dio-
cese, that they will take up their cross and follow the path which Jesus
urges them to walk.
For peace and joy in our hearts and our homes, and unity in our par-
ish and our country.
For an end to abortion and respect for life from conception to natural
death.
We rejoice and give thanks to God for the return of the Public Mass
and pray that all of us whether we are able to come to Mass or not be
given the grace to persevere through these difficult times.
For a cure for the coronavirus, healing for the sick, strength for their
families and courage and protection for those who care for them.
That God will have mercy on all those that have died and console
those that mourn their passing.

Gospel: Mt 10:37-42
In this month of June, the
church has returned to Ordi-
nary Time in the liturgical
calendar. Our return to Ordi-
nary Time followed soon after
the great solemnity of Pentecost when we celebrated the gift of the Holy
Spirit who inaugurates the age of the church.
And we know that the mission of the church, founded and sustained by
Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit, is anything but ordinary!
The church exists to evangelize, to proclaim in love the life, death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ as the path of reconciliation with God and
peace in the human family. In truth, the age of the church is an extraordi-
nary extension of Jesus' earthly ministry of healing that transformed his
disciples and the world around them.
In the church's sacramental life and mission in the world, the most extraor-
dinary power of God continues to work in our lives, in the world and in hu-
man history.
As our country and nations around the world begin the gradual and uncer-
tain entry into a post-pandemic world, one thing is certain. The experience
of a pandemic has changed us at every level of human existence.
Following the extraordinary experience of a pandemic we cautiously look
for signs of the ordinariness of life. No one can escape the social, econom-
ic, medical and technological impact felt across a post-pandemic planet.
At one moment or another, we have each felt deeply the spiritual impact of
living in physical isolation from the sacraments we receive in our communi-
ties of faith. It took a novel and deadly virus for us to learn that even in our
social isolation, we are inherently social beings whose lives unfold in a
tightly woven web of interconnected relationships.
God's word reminds us today of the extraordinary reality of our deepest,
most profound relationship, our relationship to God. St. Paul's words to the
Romans are relevant now more than ever, "Are you unaware that we who
were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ... So that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too
might live in newness of life."
And in the Gospel, Jesus reminds us of the primacy of our relationship with
God when he says, "Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."
Whatever short and long term impact of the pandemic we feel on our ordi-
nary, daily existence one extraordinary truth remains constant -- in Jesus
Christ we have received newness of life, the dignity of being sons and
daughters of God, loved by God into existence and sustained at every
moment, especially in times of trial and distress.
This extraordinary truth of faith makes it possible for us to join the psalm-
ist's praise saying, "For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord" as we
pray, "speak to me, Lord."

Before I ask you, my beloved Family mem-
bers, to consider my final pastoral wishes
as I retire, I want to thank you immense-
ly for giving me your support and assistance
with the different ministries; inviting me into
your homes for dinner, and out for a round
of golf. I cannot overstate the importance
that sharing these many holy moments with
you, in service to our Lord and out among
His family, has meant to me.
I owe a great deal of thanks to mothers for
being a mother to me and giving me your motherly care for these many
years. I am grateful to fathers who have stood with me as earthly fathers,
walking this walk with me, instilling confidence in me and my ministry. Your
support was necessary to the success of my mission as your Spiritual Fa-
ther, and I could have failed without you. Thank you all for journeying with
me over these past 10 years.
Divine Mercy is the last parish I will serve in active ministry. It feels some-
what like Divine Mercy Parish is the only parish that I served in. The time
that I have spent here is the longest that I have served in one community
since my ordination in 1987. As I prepare to leave I find my growth as a
priest is due to the great and various contributions you’ve made to my ex-
periences during the time that we have shared together. It is with a very
grateful and joyful heart that I prepare for continued service to our God, yet
in a different capacity.
As I celebrated our first Mass together in January 2010, in full faith, I shared
with you the “mission” that God had charged me with as your new pastor;
“God called me to Divine Mercy to help you get to heaven.” Looking back on
this last decade I recognize the pain that we shared as growth and journey
is not without some kinds of hurt; I look back on tears of joy and our cele-
brations of the milestones we achieved together. We are the vine of Christ
and are always striving for growth; but most of all as I look to our present
and your future as the Divine Mercy Parish family, I desire for each of
you the presence of mind to create many, many more holy moments. Perse-
vere in making holy moments — this will help you get to heaven.
On the top of my wish list is that each of us lives life in a State of Grace and
works to keep our path straight on the highway to Heaven. I wish that we all
meet again at the top of the Stairway and we will be with God forever in
Heaven.
My next wish is that through his own way of leadership, the new pastor will
continue to lead you all on the journey to Heaven. I pray that you will desire
to assist him in the journey as you assisted me during my time with you in
active ministry.
I wish that you will remain devoted to our Lord Jesus Christ, with the Holy
Trinity, and His Mother Mary. I wish that you will continue to desire close-
ness with God by attending the Welcome Retreats, and share your experi-
ences with others which will allow Jesus to continue to renew His parish.
I wish that you will always work at helping your brothers and sisters who
have lost their way. I wish that you will always lead by example and walk the
lost back to the highway to Heaven.
I wish that through the power of prayer our families will continue reform-
ing the Domestic Church; continue praying together as a family and make
the Word of God alive in the life of your families. I have more wishes. I
know you all to be loving people and do not want to put too many out there
because I know you will want to fulfill them all…..so I leave you with my last
wish-live your love of Divine Mercy; continue your devotion to the Sacred
Heart; and continue to pray for lasting peace in our families and the world.
May the peace of our Lord be with you always, Father Soane

Stewardship Bulletin Reflection
June 28, 2020
Today’s readings take us back to some basics of stewardship living and
demonstrate the geni-
us of this way of life.
Our First Reading,
from 2 Kings, shows us
the necessity and pow-
er of hospitality. It re-
counts the story of a
woman who showed
loving hospitality to a
visitor, inviting him to
dinner with her family
and arranging a room
for him in their home
so that he would have
a comfortable place to
stay during his travels
through her town. She
reached out to the man
in a simple and practi-
cal manner to make
him feel welcome and was rewarded in an extraordinary way.
In our Second Reading, from the Letter to the Romans, St. Paul reminds us
of the power of our Baptism and how this sacrament makes us disciples.
What does that mean for us here and now? St. Paul tells us very clearly:
“You must think of yourselves as dead to sin and living for God in Christ
Jesus.” We must live for Christ! Nothing less will do.
Our Lord proclaims this same instruction in a rather shocking way in our
Gospel passage from Matthew:
“Whoever finds his life [by living for
oneself] will lose it, and whoever loses
his life for my sake will find it.” But how
do we lose our life? Precisely through
loving actions towards others, loving
them as if they were Christ. “Whoever
gives only a cup of cold water to one of
these little ones to drink because the
little one is a disciple… he will surely not lose his reward.”
The simple brilliance of stewardship living? Only our infinitely crea-
tive, compassionate God could conceive it!
