Math by Bailey Wilson Before Christmas break, we learned how to multiply fractions. Right now, we’re working on angles. A lot of people are getting good at it. Our team has a lot of “smart cookies”! Augusta n Newsletter 1.8.14 Spelling Bee Participants Emma Ambs, Alexia Mendoza, Justin Le, Ben Stormer, Hien Doan, and Braeden Logue will be representing 6A in the Spelling Bee this year. Our team will be well represented by these six fabulous students! Band By: Ben Stormer As most of you know, the Greenways band got together before the Christmas break and performed a spectacular band concert. The 6A team has the following instruments in its band that played during the concert: Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon, Trombone, Euphonium, the percussion instruments, and 1 trumpet. (please excuse me if I forgot an instrument). We also performed with the remaining instruments which were in 6E. Also, make sure that you Language Arts by: Devanee Sena In Mrs.Christan’s class, we will be starting a new book this week called Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen. This Friday, we will be having our vocab test over vocab lessons 1,2,3 and 4, so parents be sure your children study! Help them out on any words they need help on. This week we will also be reviewing parts of speech. Also in class yesterday we had our unit 3 test over what we have been working on in class. Make sure to keep up with your annotations and read, read, read! Social Studies by: Cassidy Beck We’ve been studying about South America. Did you know that South America has one of the widest rivers? It’s called the Amazon River. If you were to put all the water from lakes and streams in the world it would be 1/5 of our fresh water. South America has a rain forest that holds many habitats and animals. It has over 1,000 species of frogs! That’s a lot of frogs! This has really been fun to study! Recent Special Events Written by Preston Mullins & Hien Doan Editor: Mrs. Christian The Annual Greenways Talent Show The Amazing Talent Show is filled with Comedy, Singing, Dancing and much more entertainment. There was many people performing with 3-5 minutes to perform. They were all very distinct performances. 1 st place went to: Hien Doan 2 nd place went to: Mattie Freeze 3 rd place went to: The Davidson Bros. Comedy The Talent Show has had a long history. The Talent Show has been around for a long time, first started around 13-15 years ago in the former Valleyview School. Recent Special Events Cont. Written by: Preston Mullins & Hien Doan Editor: Mrs. Christian 1 st Annual Greenways Science Bowl The Science Bowl is a competition held by the U.S. Department of Energy. It contains very complex Math & Science questions for grades 6-12. Prelims 1: Mrs. Freeby’s Vs. Alternates, Freeby won. Prelims 2: Mrs. Wilder Vs. Mrs. Fennel, Wilder won. Semi-Finals 1: Mrs. Hale Vs. Mrs. Freeby, Hale won. Semi-Finals 2 :Mrs. Wilder Vs. Mrs. Science By : Avery Blackwell and Claire Lindley Science in Mrs.Hale’s room is full of competition. This six weeks we did a compound project, which turned into an interesting competition among the teams in the 6 th grade wing, but there is more than a compound project competition stirring. On the Tuesday before Christmas break, a science competition called Science Bowl broke out after Skate Plex , lets just say it was a huge success. 6A won the competition! Team members : Hien Doan, Justin Le, Ben Stormer, Brennan Carr, and Santi Pinedo blew all of us away with their mad science skills . Tanner and Tate Davison kept the audience rolling in their Abbott and Costello performance which earned them 3rd place in the Talent Show.

Skate Plex Fun!!

Talent Show6A walked away with 1st and 3rd place trophies from the Talent Show! We are very proud of Hien Doan and Tanner and Tate Davison for their stellar performances!!

Hien Doan received 1st place in the Talent Show and wowed the audience with his piano playing skills.

Winter Activities-Claire Headings, Emma Ambs Sometimes when it is too cold to go outside, there are still things to do. Whether it is snowy or just plain cold, there’s always a way to get in the Christmas spirit. You could always…. *Do arts and crafts , helps to express feelings *Drink hot cocoa /coffee*Watch a movie with your family *Decorate the house*Make Christmas goodies*Drive around and look at Christmas lights
