About This ProductionOn behalf of Arab Musical Theatre, we thank you for joining us for this hilarious new production of the Broadway classic Sweet Charity! Set amid the backdrop late 1960’s New York City, Sweet Charity follows the adventures of the irrepressibly optimistic Charity Hope Valentine, a dime-a-dance girl unlucky in love and stuck in a degrading job, where she relies on her tough-talking friends to get by. As she makes her way through The Big Apple in search of “something better than this,” she encounters a host of quirky characters, from a fading movie star to a new age religious leader to a neurotic bundle of nerves named Oscar who just may turn out to be the man of her dreams.

Sweet Charity has a Broadway pedigree rivaled by none, and AMT is delighted to play our part in honoring its legacy. Originally directed and choreographed by theatrical visionary Bob Fosse, Charity is a non-stop showcase for Fosse’s inimitable style, and features some of musical theatre’s most unforgettable musical numbers, including “Big Spender” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” courtesy of Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields. In Charity Hope Valentine, legendary playwright Neil Simon has crafted one of his most unforgettable characters: an idealistic heroine who is at turns strong and vulnerable, wise and naive, and serves as an unlikely icon of second-wave feminism, to boot.

Cast Bios

Anna Quillin is extremely excited to be a part of such an amazing AMT cast and to play the role of Nickie in this production of Sweet Charity. Last year, she enjoyed the incredible Arab Musical Theatre experience of playing the roles of Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family and Lily St. Regis in Annie. Anna has also previously been a principal dancer in AMT’s production of Tarzan. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, playing piano, guitar, and ukulele. Maggi Mae Yancey is a senior at Arab High School. She began participating in AMT at the age of six. Previous AMT credits include JoJo in Seussical, Kim in Bye Bye Birdie, Sally in SNOOPY!!! The Musical, Gladys in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Ginger in Zombie Prom, Jane in Tarzan, Grace in Annie and Alice in The Addams Family. She has also performed as Little Ti Moune in The Whole Backstage production of Once On This Island. Nate Pruett is very excited to be playing the role of Oscar Lindquist in this production of Sweet Charity. Nate is the third Pruett to make his home in Arab Musical Theatre. Previous credits include The Addams Family (Conquistador), Tarzan (Ape Ensemble), and Annie (For one night...long story.) He has also worked crew for Annie, and Madagascar Jr. Nate is also involved in the Arab High School theatre and choir classes. Alli Scarbrough is thrilled to play the role of Helene in Sweet Charity! She is a junior and has been involved in AMT since her freshman year. Some of her favorite shows include Tarzan, Annie, & The Addams Family. She was also the Properties Manager for AMT JR.’s production of Madagascar, Jr. last year. She previously traveled to the International Theatre Festival with Zombie Prom in 2016. Austin Byars is beyond excited to be appearing as Daddy Brubeck in this fantastic production of Sweet Charity. He has participated in many memorable shows such as Seussical, Bye Bye Birdie and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. He has also had the pleasure of dancing and singing with the Theatrix Show Choir throughout his high school career. He plans to attend Auburn University after high school and participate in the Auburn University Chamber Choir. Thomas Eubanks is very honored to have the opportunity to play the role Vittorio Vidal in AMT’s production of Sweet Charity. As a senior at Albertville High School, he has been involved with theatre since he was ten playing a Lollipop Guild Munchkin in The Wizard of Oz. Since then, some of his most memorable roles have been Jesus in Godspell, Ladahlord in James and the Giant Peach, Agwe in Once on this Island, and Wilbur in Hairspray. Carson Reed, Herman in Sweet Charity, is a junior whose love for the arts began when he was young. Since then, he’s had the opportunity to perform in a variety of shows with Arab Musical Theatre and The Whole Backstage Children’s Theatre. Some favorites include Fester in The Addams Family, Bert Healy in Annie, TonTon Julien in Once on this Island, Jr., and a disciple in Godspell, Jr. He’s involved in Theatrix, choir, and theatre classes, and works behind the scenes with AMT JR. He is ecstatic to grow as a performer and would like to thank his family and directors for supporting him! @_carsy_

Cast Bios

Elizabeth Smith is so excited to be a part of another AMT production. She began theatre at the age of six, when she played Molly in Annie at The Whole Backstage. Since then, she has been in several productions there, including White Christmas, The Things We Do For Love, and Grease. In Arab, she has been Gabriella Montez in High School Musical, Jr., Cecille in Annie, and the Flapper in The Addams Family. Dance and theatre are such huge parts of Elizabeth’s heart, and she is so thankful that God has given her so many opportunities to do what she loves. Check out her Instagram @elizabethcs2

Avareeh Hallmark is a junior at Arab High School and she is thrilled to be a part of this year’s production of Sweet Charity! Avareeh loves musical theatre and has taken part in many productions. Some of her favorites include AMT’s productions of Seussical, Tarzan and The Addams Family. This past spring, she had the honor of serving as the student director of AMT JR.’s production of Madagascar, Jr. She is so thankful that the Lord has blessed her with such amazing opportunities and an even better cast to call her family, and she can not wait to see what else He has in store for her!

Livie Sparks has been involved with AMT since she was a child. Her first production was in Beauty and the Beast when she was younger as a member of the children’s ensemble. More recently, Live could be seen in 2016’s fall and spring shows, Annie and The Addams Family. This year, look for her as Suzanne in this production of Sweet Charity! She enjoys to sing and play piano and has had the opportunity to compete in Arab High School’s show choir. Gloriannah Phillips is overjoyed to be entering her fourth year with Arab Musical Theatre. She has been involved in several productions, including Zombie Prom, which was showcased at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska. Hailey Kensing is a senior at Arab High School and is super stoked to be in her second AMT production. Hailey has been a part of the AHS Band, Colorguard, and Danceline for over five years and has been taking dance for over two years at Dana’s Dance Unlimited, with experience in jazz, tap, and pointe. She has also been a part of AMT for two years, most recently appearing in last spring’s The Addams Family. Madison Zelan is a senior at AHS and is thrilled to be participating in her fourth AMT production. She was previously featured in Tarzan, Annie, and The Addams Family, and is also an active, third year member of Arab High School’s show choir, Theatrix. Madison has also been involved in several years of dance and was awarded a superior ranking at Alabama’s State Thespian Festival in 2015 for a duet tap number. Kayla West is very excited to be a part of another amazing production at AMT!. She has only been in Arab for one year but is thrilled to start off her senior year with this production of Sweet Charity. Last year, Kayla was featured in AMT’s Annie, and The Addams Family. She has also been seen in American Idol: Murdering the Music, and Cinderella. Her most memorable thing about AMT is going to rehearsals and getting ready back stage before shows. Caleb Teague has been a member of Arab Musical Theatre since he was in sixth grade, when he shared the role of Randolph in Bye Bye Birdie. He loves the AMT community and has made many friends through his involvement in the program. Now that he has made it to high school, he is proud to join the cast of Sweet Charity! Caleb has previously played the roles of Fred and Ickes in AMT’s Annie and Charlie in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Ben Whitley is very excited to play the role of Charlie in this production of Sweet Charity! He is a sophomore and 15 years old. Ben’s past AMT productions include Beauty and the Beast, S’COOL: A Teenage Pop/Rock Musical, Annie, and The Addams Family. Ben is also a part of the Arab High School track team in which he pole vaults. He hopes to one day receive for a scholarship in cheerleading. Trey Elledge is an avid thespian, as well as student in his sophomore year at Arab High School. His role of Barney in Sweet Charity will mark his sixth production. Other productions include Hairspray, Jr. at The Whole BackStage Theatre in Guntersville, AL, S’COOL and High School Musical, Jr. with AMT JR., and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and Annie with AMT. Chandler Cobb is a 10th grader who joined AMT in 7th grade because he had to audition for a show in his theatre class. That audition gave him his first role, as Bruce in S’COOL. He soon realized that theatre is about more than just acting; it’s about being around people with whom you can be your true self. Since then, he has gone on to play the roles of Chad in AMT JR.’s High School Musical, Jr. and Lurch in AMT’s The Addams Family, as well as ensemble roles in Disney’s Tarzan and Annie! Chandler is so glad that he joined Arab Musical Theatre and can’t wait to see what comes next!

Destyni Cravens is a senior and proud member of AMT for five years where she has participated in multiple AMT productions : Seussical , Bye Bye Birdie, Zombie Prom, Tarzan, Annie, The Addams Family, and now, Sweet Charity! Gail Hetherington is thrilled to play The Good Fairy in Sweet Charity for her fifth AMT production. Her first introduction to AMT was for an ensemble role in Beauty and the Beast in 2011, and her most memorable role has been as a portrait in The Addams Family. She has also been a part of AMT’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Tarzan, and Annie. Outside of musical theatre she is also an active student and instructor at McCoy’s Taekwondo America. Ajia Jones is a sophomore at Arab High School. She’s been in AMT for 5 years and it has become a huge part of her life that she will always cherish. She has participated in Sesssical the Musical, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, High School Musical, Jr, and The Addams Family. She is 15 years old and she loves to sing, dance, and act. Her goal after high school is to go to college and become a high school theater teacher. Maddie Carroll is beyond excited to be a part of the Sweet Charity ensemble this year. This will be her third show with AMT, others being Annie and The Addams Family. She found her love for musical theatre last summer at Somerville Playhouse when she played Tina in A Dolphin Up a Tree. She continues to perform there in monthly murder mystery shows. She would like to thank DJ Neal, Jessica Cotton, and Kim Wilson for introducing her to the world of musical theatre. Casen Doss has been involved in musical theatre since the age of eight. Some of his most favorite roles include Disney’s Tarzan and Bye Bye Birdie with Arab Musical Theatre and Peter Pan, Jr. and Once on this island, Jr. at The Whole Backstage Theatre in Guntersville, AL. He is a vocal student of the Lake Guntersville Music Academy. Casen has been a member of The Whole Backstage Children’s Theatre and the Spotlight Kids, the WBS competition theatre group for several years and has also served as President of the AMT, JR. Drama Club at AJHS. He hopes to continue his education at The University of Montevallo.

Mia Oldacre is a freshman at AHS and is excited to perform in her first high school production with Arab Musical Theatre; but she has been involved in theatre for 7 years. Mia was featured in an award-winning show with The Whole Backstage Children’s Theatre at the Junior Theatre Festival and the Alabama Youth Theatre Experience. She has also had the opportunity to be a part of The WBS Children’s Theatre’s advanced theatre troupe, the Spotlight Kids. Some of her credits include Sharpay Evans in High School Musical, Jr. and Gloria in Madagascar: A Musical Adventure, Jr. as a member of AMT, JR.

Brody Pittman is a sophomore at Arab High School and is joining Arab Musical Theatre onstage for the first time with this production of Sweet Charity! Previously, Brody has performed onstage with Arab High School and Arab Junior High School choir and theatre classes in their annual Halloween fundraiser, the Zombie Concert. He is so glad that he took the advice of his friends and finally joined up with AMT. This is Nathan Hoffmaster’s third year as a member of Arab Musical Theatre. He is a senior this year and he hopes to continue his education with a degree in outdoor education. Nathan’s previous credits include a member of the ape ensemble in Disney’s Tarzan, Drake the butler in Annie, and Cousin Itt in The Addams Family. He is also a captain in the JROTC program at Arab High School. Nathan would like to thank his family for supporting him through his AMT career. Blake Hanson is excited to join Arab Musical Theatre for his first high school show with this production of Sweet Charity! His first acting role was in 2017, as the lemur Maurice in AMT, JR.’s spring production of Madagascar: A Musical Adventure, Jr. Blake is currently a freshman at Arab High School. He has also been a member of the Arab Band for three years, where he enjoys playing the trumpet. Blake joined Arab Musical Theatre because he loves having fun and spending time with lots of great people. In the future, Blake hopes to join the Arab show choir.
